TheAsia-PacificEconomicCooperation(APEC)wasestablishedin1989.The21membereconomiesareAustralia;BruneiDarussalam;Canada;Chile;China;HongKong,China;Indonesia;Japan;Korea;Malaysia;Mexico;NewZealand;PapuaNewGuinea;Peru;thePhilippines;Russia;Singapore;ChineseTaipei;Thailand;theUnitedStates;andVietNam.

TheAPECPolicySupportUnit(PSU)isthepolicyresearchandanalysisarmforAPEC.ItsupportsAPECmembersandforainimprovingthequalityoftheirdeliberationsanddecisionsandpromotingpoliciesthatsupporttheachievementofAPEC’sgoalsbyprovidingobjectiveandhigh-qualityresearch,analyticalcapacityandpolicysupportcapability.

DigitalservicestradehasincreasinglybecomemoreprominentintheAPECregion.In2024,exportsandimportsofdigitally-deliveredservicesreachedacombinedvalueofUSD3.1trillion,doublingfromadecadeago.Nonetheless,growthinthisareahasmoderatedcomparedtothesurgeseeninoverallservicestradefollowingtheCOVID-19pandemic.Onaverage,theannualgrowthratesofdigitally-deliveredservicesexportsandimportslaggedbehindthoseoftotalservicesby4.2and5.5percentagepoints,respectively,between2021and2024.

In2024,APEC’sFDIinflowsroseby5.2%whileoutflowsfellby11.0%comparedto2023.Theregionaccountedforoverthree-fifthsofglobalFDIflows.TheUnitedStateswasboththelargestrecipient(29.2%ofAPECinflows)andthelargestsource(26.5%ofAPECoutflows).Singaporerankedasthesecond-largestrecipientwith15.0%ofAPECinflows,whileJapanwasthesecond-largestsource,contributing20.3%ofAPECoutflows.Overall,theFDIflowswereconcentratedinNortheastAsiaandtheAmericas.
