Thischapterthereforedoesnotaskwhetheranagentcanwriteaconvincingmessageinagroup.Modernmodelscanoftendothatalready.Themoredurablequestioniswhethertheplatformcanexplainwhytheagentsawthegroup,whyitwasallowedtospeak,whoseidentityitused,howfarthereplyloopwasallowedtocontinue,andwhatevidenceremainsaftertheinteraction.AgenticSocialbecomesengineeringonlywhenthosequestionshaveanswers.

LearningObjectives

•Explainwhysharedsocialcontextscreateadifferentengineeringproblemfromprivatechat.

•DefineAgenticSocialintermsofidentity,membership,messageevents,socialcapabilities,andreplycontrol.

•UnderstandhowLinkMindcanbeusedasareferenceplatformforboundedsocialparticipation.

•Designafirstchannel-basedsocialagentflowwithoutturningthemodelintotheownerofmembershiporpermissions.

•Evaluatesocialagentsforreachability,eventquality,replydiscipline,costvisibility,andhumanoversight.

6.1FromPrivateChattoSharedContext

Aprivatechatgivestheillusionthatagentbehaviorcanbejudgedoneturnatatime.Theuserasks,theassistantanswers,andtheevaluationmostlyconcernswhethertheanswerishelpful,grounded,andsafe.Asharedchannelbreaksthatsimplicity.Theagentmaybeoneparticipantamongseveral.Itmayansweramessagewrittenbysomeoneelse.Itmayremainsilentbecauseanotherparticipantalreadyresolvedtheissue.Itmayrespondlater,aftertheinitiatinguserhaslefttheconversation.

6.3IdentityIsNotaPromptConvention

Thefirstboundaryinsocialagentsisidentity.Inaprivateassistant,theuserisoftenimplicitinthesession.Inachannel,identitybecomesmorecomplex.Theagentmayneedtoknowthecurrentuser,theauthorofthenewestmessage,theownerofthechannel,andtheuserwhoseagentpersonashouldbeusedforabackgroundreply.Iftheseidentitiesarereducedtoordinarytext,thesystembecomeseasytoconfuseandhardtoaudit.

Astrongdesigncarriesidentityasstructuredcontext.Themodelmayseeanatural-languagerepresentationoftheconversation,buttheplatformshouldseparatelyknowwhichuserisacting.LinkMind’ssocialflowfollowsthisideabycarryinguseridentityoutsidethemainmessagebodyandbyusingthatidentitytoselectthechannelsandsocialcapabilitiesvisibletotheagent.Themodelcanthenreasonabouttheuser’srequestwithoutbecomingthesourceoftruthforwhotheuseris.

6.4MembershipasBoundedReachability

Membershipisthesocialversionofboundedreachability.Auseroragentshouldnotbeabletoreadachannelmerelybecauseitcannamethechannel.Namingisnotpermission.Thesystemmustdecidewhetherthecurrentidentityhasjoinedthechannel,whetherthechannelisactive,andwhethertherequestedactionisappropriateforthatidentity.

ThisisonereasonthesocialskillinLinkMindisdeliberatelynarrow.Itisusefulforviewingandsendingmessagesinchannelstheuserhasalreadyjoined.Itisnotageneral-purposeadministrativetool.Itdoesnotneedtocreatechannels,changemembership,disablechannels,ordeletesharedhistoryinordertosatisfythefirstsetofusefulsocialtasks.Thosebroaderpowerscanbedesignedlaterwithownerrulesandapprovalflows.

ThemostdistinctivepartofAgenticSocialisbackgroundparticipation.Inordinarychat,theassistantusuallyrespondsbecausetheuserjustaskedaquestion.Inasocialchannel,anagentmayrespondbecausearelevantmessageappearedinasharedcontext.Thiscreatesanewloop:observechannelchange,loadrecentcontext,decideeligibleparticipants,generateareply,publishthereply,andupdatesessionstate.

Withoutdiscipline,thatloopbecomesnoisyordangerous.Agentscanansweroneanotherindefinitely.Theycanrepeatapointafterthehumanshavemovedon.Theycanturnahelpfulchannelintoastreamofsyntheticpoliteness.Agoodsocialagentthereforeneedsstopconditionsjustasmuchasasingleagentneedsstopconditions.Thedifferenceisthatthestopconditionnowbelongstoasharedsocialenvironment.
