charts,oftenwishingtheycouldbuyatthepreviouslylowerprices.Butwhenmarketsfinallyretreat,andpricesfall,consumers

oftenconcludethattheproductwas

perhapsundesirableallalong,andhencefewerpurchasesaremade.However,whenthemarketclimbsagain,thenewprices

alreadyfeeltooexpensivesincethenewreferenceisthepreviouslow.

Onthesecondarymarket,qualitywhiskyisnowmoreaffordablethanithasbeeninaverylongtime.Auctionpriceshave

fallenmorethan40%fromtheir2022

peak.Andalthoughpriceshavenotfully

stabilised,thedownturnmomentum

slowedsignificantlyin2025.Ouranalysisofothercollectableassetsshowsthat

WineandWatchesmayhavejustreachedtheirlowpointandaturnaroundis

perhapsunderway.Giventheclosecorre-lationbetweenWhisky,WineandWatchesthroughoutthehighsandlowsofthepastfiveyears,thesecircumstancesmight

suggestasimilartrendforWhisky.

Butmarkettimingrequiresacrystalball.Soletuslookatthefactualdata.Over

2025,tradingvaluescontinuedtofall

whilevolumedecreasedonlyslightly.Inotherwords,theproductisstillplentiful,butpricesaremuchmoreattractive.

Whiskiesscoring90–92pointsonWhisky-

basesawtheirmedianauctionbuyer

pricedropby18%overthepastyear.Andan87–90Whiskybasepointsrelease

currentlysellsfor€190onaverage,15%lessthaninearly2024.

Inotherwords,forthosewhoareinthe

marketforgoodwhisky,itmightbethe

perfecttimetobuy.AfewhundredEurosbuysalotmorewhisky(bothintermsofquantityandquality)thanjustafewyearsago,andthatiswhileinflationsawpricesclimbsignificantlyelsewhere.IfyouareinthemarketforJapanesewhisky,youarecurrentlyseeingadiscountofalmost70%comparedto2022.

Butthereasonforthesediscountedratesis,ofcourse,uncertainty.Whenwillpricesclimbagain,orwilltheyfallevenfurther?Nobodyknows.However,forthose

focusedonacquiringdesirablewhiskies

ratherthantimingthemarket,current

pricesofferopportunitiesthatonecouldonlyhavedreamedofacoupleofyears

ago,whenstaringatthosehistoriccharts.

Thethirdquarterof2025wasrelativelycalmformostcollectableassetclasseswetrack.WhiskytriedtorecoverfromtheQ2tariffshockthat

wehighlightedinour2025H1report.Inacalmmarketwithlowtrading

volume,theWhiskystatsWhiskyIndexbasicallymovedsidewaysinJuly,AugustandSeptemberandeventuallyclosedthethirdquarterwitha

minusof1%.CollectablewatchesandwinealsodidnotmovemuchinQ3,astheChronoPulseWatchIndexlost0.4%,andFineWine,representedbytheLiv-exFineWine100Index,gained0.4%.TheonlyexceptionwasArt,astheAMR’sAllArtIndexfellby7.7%in2025Q3.

However,thefourthquarterof2025paintedadifferentpicture.WineandWatchesbuiltuponthemomentumfromQ3.BoththeLiv-exFineWine

Index(+2.2%)andtheChronoPulseWatchIndex(+1.8%)closedthequarterwithasolidplus.Whisky,ontheotherhand,wasunabletosustainthe

pricestabilisationintothepeakwhiskytradingseason.SecondarywhiskymarketpricestumbledagainastheWhiskystatsWhiskyIndexwasintheredthroughouttheclosingquarteroftheyear,withatotalquarterlyloss

of-4.8%.ArtpricestookabigswinginQ4.AftertheextremelossesofQ3,theAMR’sAllArtIndexsignalledequallyextremegainsof8.1%.

Allofthesealternativeassetclassescloselytrackedoneanotherthroughthepost-COVIDhypethatpeakedin2022andthesubsequentdownturn.

NowthatWineandWatchesseemtobestabilizing,andperhaps

witnessingaturnaround,maybeWhiskyandArtwillfollowasimilar

trajectory.The2025H2resultsalreadyindicatethatWineandWatchesmightbereadyforanupswing.Theupcomingresultsin2026Q1andQ2willbecrucialfordeterminingwhetherthisisthecase.Whiskyattemptedthesamein2025H2,butultimatelyfailedinQ4.ButifWineandWatchesswingup,Whiskymightjustfollow.

showsthepricetrendsofover140modelsfromarangeofluxurywatchbrandslikeRolex,PatekPhilippe,andOmega.

Phasesofwhiskyprice

stabilisationwereundercutby

sharpsetbacks.

Secondarywhiskymarketpriceswerefairlystableintheopeningmonthsof2025.ThatbriefphaseendedwiththemacroeconomicturmoilthatunfoldedinApril.TheScotchWhiskyIndexlost5.9%withinoneroundofauctions,itsbiggestone-monthsetbacksinceNovember2023.Butduringthesummermonths,whentradingvolumewasatitsannuallow,signsofstabilizationemergedagain.ScotchWhiskygained3.8%fromMaytoAugust,andmanyhopedthatmomentumwouldcontinueintothepeaktradingseason.

However,asthetradingvolumestartedtoclimb,pricesfellagain.TheScotchWhiskyindexlost6.3%fromSeptembertoDecember,andIrishWhiskey

wasdownby7.5%overthesameperiod.ItwaslegendaryreleasesfromPortEllen(-8.4%in2025),Rosebank(-15.7%)andBrora(-16.6%)thatsufferedthemostintheclosingmonthsoftheyear.ButalsosecondarymarketfavouriteslikeBowmore(-4.5%),Springbank(-9.8%)andArdbeg(-10.8%)closedtheyeardeepinthered.

MarketleaderMacallanmanagedtoholdpricessteadyuntilNovember.

TheMacallanauctionpriceindexwasoneofthefewmarketindices

thatmovedsidewaysinautumnwhiletheoverallmarkettumbled.Butin

December2025,pricesforMacallandippedaswell.The6.6%drawdown

markedthebiggestmonthlysetbackinsecondary-marketpricingfor

MacallansinceAugust2022.TheMacallanauctionpriceindexclosed2025witha-11%changeonanannuallevel.

AuctionpricesforJapanesewhiskycontinuedadramaticcollapse

throughout2025.TheJapaneseWhiskyIndexclosedtheyearwitha

minusof25.4%.ItcurrentlystandsatalevellastseeninSeptember2017,

astaggering68%belowitsApril2022peak.InNovemberalone,the100

Japanesewhiskiesdrivingtheindexlostastaggering10.3%oftheirmarketvalue.AndalthoughDecemberauctionssawpricesforJapanesewhisky

reboundafairbit(+5.3%),atrueturnaroundforJapanesewhiskyseemsafarstretchfromwherethemarketcurrentlyis.

Asweseeeveryyear,tradingvolumefelltoitsannuallowinQ3.Manyauctionbuyersandsellersstepasideduringthesummermonths,andsomeauctionhousesdon’t

70,000bottlesexchangedbetweenJulyandSeptember,thetradingvolumewas

lowbut5,000bottleshigherthanin2024Q3.ThatmomentumdidnotcarryovertoQ4,however,asthe84,000bottlestradedintheclosingquarterof2025were3.5%belowthe2024reference.

Thetradingvaluewasdownbymore

than12%yearonyearinbothQ4andQ3.Onceagain,thesetbackinvaluethereforeoutweighsthedownturninvolumeas

Thehighlightofthe2025H2auctioncalendarwastheDistillersOneofOneauction

heldatSotheby’s,Edinburgh,onOctober10.Thebiannualcharityauctionraisedover

€2million.Tenofthetop20mostexpensivewhiskiessoldinthesecondhalfof2025

exchangedhandsonthatoccasion.ToppingthelististheGlenlivetSpira(WB283796),a60-year-oldsinglemaltbottledina1,500mldecanter,whichreachedalmost€750,000.ThiswasfollowedbytheGlenGrant77-year-oldEternal(WB283809,€460,000),the

PortEllen46-year-oldPrism(WB283802,€431,000)andtheLadyburn58-year-oldMarilynMonroe(WB283804,€260,000).

ThemostexpensivewhiskynotsoldattheDistillersOneofOneauctionwasthe

Yamazaki50-year-old3rdrelease(WB28461).This2011edition,consistingofonly150bottles,israrelyseenatauctions.OnNovember20,onebottlebecameavailableintheUKandrealizedcloseto€200,000.Thispricewasalmostequaltothe€204,000from

November2019butclearlylaggedthelastknowntradeat€375,000duringthemarketpeakinJanuary2022.

TheMacallan50-year-oldLalique(WB212336)experiencedarollercoasterrideinthesecondhalfof2025.InSeptember,secondary-marketpricingintheUKfellbelow€52,000,thelowestlevelinoveradecade.Then,onDecember12,pricesdroppedevenfurther,withonebottlesellingforonly€43,000intheUS.Butbyanunexpectedturnof

events,anotherbottlecametoauctionintheUK,andthistimethehammerfellatalmost€100,000(includingbuyerfees),thehighestpricesincethemarketpeakfouryearsago.

SpringbankandMacallancontinuedtodominatethewhiskyauctionmarketintermsoftradingactivity.Thethreemosttradedreleasesof2025H2arethesameasthose

ofH1:theSpringbank15-year-old(BG2149,588bottles),theSpringbank10-year-old(BG2147,446),andtheMacallanRichCacao(WB193606,411).TradingactivityfortheGlendronachPortWood(BG4348)pickedupsignificantlyinthesecondhalfof2025,asover200bottleswereexchanged.Prices,however,didnotmovemuch,

averaging€41.
