Tounderstandhowpracticalthismethodmightbe,theteamcarriedoutexperimentsunderdifferentconditions.Theydiscoveredthatthefinalproductdependedgreatlyonthesurfaceontowhichthesoilwasprinted.Whenprintedonstainlesssteelorglasssurfaces,thematerialdidnotstickwell.However,itstuckstronglywithalumina-silicateceramic.Thetwomaterialsformedstablecrystals(稳定晶体)together,whichimprovedmechanicalstrengthandthematerial'sabilitytostandsuddentemperaturechanges.
