Software Version ADAMS 2011 Files Required valve.cmd Located in the directory exercise_dir/mod_02_aview_interface directory,Problem Description The model represen

2、ts a valvetrain mechanism. The cam is being rotated at a given velocity. The rod (follower) moves translationally based on its constraint to the cam. The rocker pivots about a pin attached to the engine block. The spring is always in compression to try and keep the rod in contact with the cam. The v

3、alve moves vertically as the rocker rotates. When the valve moves, it lets small amounts of air into the chamber below it (not modeled here).,Tips before you start. While working on this exercise, notice: The use of the right mouse button The function of single-clicks and double-clicks The messages

4、on the Status bar The animation options Suggested Exercise Steps Import the file valve.cmd View the list of keyboard shortcuts. Use the zoom shortcut. View the model from different angles. Rename the parts. Inspect the model. Simulate the model. Save the Simulation. Animate the Results. Save your wo

5、rk.,Step 1. Import File,To import a file. Start Adams/View. From the Welcome dialog box, select Import a file. Click the file folder icon, and the Select Directory dialog box appears. Find and select the directory Exercise_dir/mod_2_aview_interface. Click OK on the Select Directory Dialog. Click OK

6、on the Welcome Dialog Box, and the File Import Dialog comes up.,f,d,e,b,c,Step 1. Import File,Make sure that the File Type is set to Adams/View Command File (*.cmd). Right-click in the File to read text box, and then select Browse. The Select File dialog box appears. Select the file valve.cmd Click

7、Open. Click OK on the File Import dialog.,a,b,d,c,e,Step 2. View the List of Keyboard Shortcuts,To view the list of keyboard shortcuts: Move the cursor away from the model and then right-click in the Adam/View window. A menu appears listing the keyboard shortcuts. To close the menu, left-click away

8、from the menu. In the space below, write the shortcut keys for performing the following view operations. Rotate:_ Translate:_ Zoom with a box:_ Zoom into a specific Area:_ Fit:_ Front View:_,Step 3. Use the Zoom Box Shortcut,To use the zoom Box shortcut: Zoom into the cam area by using the shortcut

9、. Notice the instructions in the status bar instruct you to select the area. Click the left mouse button in the place were you want the top left corner of your zoomed in rectangle to be. Now the status bar instructs you to: drag to select size of view. Draw a rectangular box around the cam. You shou

10、ld now be zoomed into the cam area. Use the fit shortcut to return to the original view.,f,d,e,Step 4. View the Model from Different Angles,To view the model from the top: Use the Top shortcut and the view changes to a top view. To view the model from the right: Use the Right shortcut and the view c

11、hanges to the right view. To view the model in an isometric view: Use the Iso shortcut and the view changes to an isometric one. If you wish you may continue to try the other shortcut keys.,Top View,Right View,Isometric View,a,b,c,Step 5. Rename the Parts,As you go through these instructions notice

12、that right-clicking always give you a list of choices while left clicking selects an object. To rename the parts to match the ones given in the diagram to the right: Move the cursor over the rocker part and right click. A menu of the part appears, select Part:PART_1 From the next menu select Rename.

13、 In the Rename dialog, change the name to .valve.Rocker. Click OK to change the part name. Repeat the above steps a through e for the Rod, Cam, Guide, and Valve.,d,e,Step 6. Inspect the Model,To inspect the model to determine the number and type of constraints: Right-click the small arrow on the Inf

14、ormation tool stack on the right side of the Status Bar at the bottom of the screen. Select the Model topology by constraints tool. From the Information window that appears, note the number and type of constraints and use them to answer Question 1 in the Workshop 2, Review section, page WS2-19 Close

15、 the Information window.,a,b,c,d,Step 6. Inspect the Model (Cont.),To inspect the mode to check if the model verified successfully: Right-click the small arrow at the bottom of the information tool stack. Select the verify tool. From the Information window that appears, notice that the model verifie

16、d successfully. Close the Information window.,c,d,Step 7. Simulate the Model,To run a simulation: From the Main Toolbox, select the Simulation tool. In the lower portion of the Main Toolbox, make sure that Default is selected. Select End Time. In the text box below End Time, enter 2. In the text box

17、 below Steps enter 100. Click on the Play tool. When the simulation is complete, click the Reset tool.,Step 8. Save the Simulation,To save the simulation: From the Simulate menu, select interactive controls. The simulation Control Dialog box appears. To save the last simulation results to the databa

18、se under a new name, select the Save simulation tool. The Save Run Results dialog then appears In the Name text box, enter a name for the simulation results, such as first_results. Click OK. Close the Simulation Control dialog box.,a,c,d,e,b,Step 9. Animate the Results,To Animate the results in the

19、default mode with icons off: Select the Animation tool from the Main Toolbox. Notice that the bottom section of the Main Toolbox changes so that you get the animation tools. To see the animation, click the Play button. When the animation is complete, click the Reset tool. To see the animation in inc

20、remental steps click either the +1 to move forward or the -1 to rewind the animation. The step number will be listed below the -1 button. When finished, click the Reset tool.,f,g,Step 9. Animate the Results (Cont.),To animate the model with icons turned on: From the Review menu, select Animation Con

21、trols. The Animation Controls dialog box should appear. At the bottom of the Animation Controls dialog box, check icons. Click the Play button. When the animation is complete, select the Reset tool. To see the animation in incremental steps click +inc to go forward and inc to rewind. The step number

22、 will be listed in the center between these two buttons. When finished, click the Reset tool. Close the Animation Controls dialog box.,a,b,c,d,e,h,f,g,Step 10. Save Your Work,To save your work so that the saved file contains only the model information: From the File menu, select Export. Set File Type to Adam/View Command File. In the File Name Text box, enter valve1
