根据Austravel部分中的“It also includes a fortnightlong trip to Perth”可知,Austravel提供给游客为期14天的Perth之游。 2What does the author say about Thomson and First Choice?AIt requires no deposit.BIt offers cheap return flights.CIt is suitable for family travel.DIt can save up to 300 per person.C解析:推理判断题。根据Thomson and First Choice部分中的“including free places for kids, lower deposits and up to 300 off per couple”可知,Thomson and First Choice提供对孩子免费的地方,以及针对夫妇的折扣。 3What do Eurocamp and Kuoni have in common?ABoth have various offers.BBoth include flights.CBoth offer a discount for early booking.DBoth need a deposit to secure a holiday.A解析:推理判断题。根据Eurocamp部分中的“The camping company is offering thousands of Easter and May halfterm holidays”可知,Eurocamp提供数千种假日出游选择;根据Kuoni部分中的“the Kuoni sale includes a wide range of offers”可知,Kuoni也为游客提供各种各样的出游选择。所以选A。BWhen I was 27 years old, I left a very demanding job in management consulting for a job that was even more demanding: teaching.I went to teach seventh graders math in the New York City public schools. What struck me was that IQ was not the only difference between my best and my worst students. Some of my strongest performers did not have high IQ scores. Some of my smartest kids werent doing so well. And that got me thinking. The kinds of things you need to learn in seventh grade math, sure, are hard, but are not impossible.I was firmly convinced that every one of my students could learn the material if they worked hard and long enough. After several more years of teaching,I came to the conclusion that what we need in education is a much better understanding of students and learning from a psychological perspective. In education, the one thing we know how to measure best is IQ.But what if doing well in school and in life depends on much more than your ability to learn quickly and easily? So I left the classroom, and I went to graduate school to become a psychologist. I started studying kids and adults in all kinds of super challenging settings, and in every study my question was, who is successful here and why? My research team and I went to the West Point military academy. We tried to predict which cadets(军校学员) would stay in military training and which would drop out.In all those very different contexts, one characteristic appeared as a significant predictor of success. And it wasnt social intelligence. It wasnt good looks, physical health, and it wasnt IQ.It was grit(毅力)A few years ago, I started studying grit in the Chicago public schools.I asked thousands of high school juniors to take grit questionnaires. It turns out that grittier kids were significantly more likely to graduate, even when I matched them to every characteristic I could measure, things like family income, standardized achievement test scores, even how safe kids felt when they were at school. So its not just at West Point or the National Spelling Bee that grit matters. Its also in school, especially for kids at risk of dropping out.To me, the most shocking thing about grit is how little we know, how little science knows, about building it. Every day, parents and teachers ask me, “How do I build grit in kids? What do I do to teach kids a solid work ethic? How do I keep them motivated for the long run?” The honest answer is, I dont know. What I do know is that talent doesnt make you gritty. Our data show very clearly that there are many talented individuals who simply do not follow through on their commitments. In fact, in our data, grit is usually unrelated or even inversely related to the extent of talent. So far, the best idea Ive heard about building grit in kids is something called “growth mindset(思维模式)”This is an idea developed at Stanford University by Carol Dweck, and it is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, and that it can change with your effort.Dr.Dweck has shown that when kids read and learn about the brain and how it changes and grows in response to challenge, theyre much more likely to persevere(坚持) when they fail, because they dont believe that failure is a permanent condition. So “growth mindset” is a great idea for building grit. But we need more. And thats where Im going to end my remarks, because thats where we are. Thats the work that stands before us.We need to take our best ideas, our strongest intuitions(直觉), and we need to test them.We need to measure whether weve been successful, and we have to be willing to fail, to be wrong, to start over again with lessons learned.【解题导语】本文为一篇议论文。 4Why did the author choose to work as a psychologist rather than a teacher later?AShe found no pleasure in teaching.BPsychology plays a vital role in education.CTeaching isnt that challenging to her.DBeing a psychologist is her lifelong dream.B解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中的“After several more years of teaching,I came to the conclusion that what we need in education is a much better understanding of students and learning from a psychological perspective.”和第四段中的“So I left the classroom, and I went to graduate school to become a psychologist.” B。5How did the author carry out her research?ABy asking questions.BBy doing experiments.CBy interviewing facetoface.DBy measuring students IQ scores.A解析:细节理解题。根据第四、五段的内容,尤其是“in every study my question was, who is successful here and why? ” “I asked thousands of high school juniors to take grit questionnaires.” A。6Which of the following may the author agree with?ABecoming gritty means success.BGrit is strongly linked to talent.CSmart people can build grit easily.DStudies on grit remain to be improved.D解析:推理判断题。根据第六段中的“To me, the most shocking thing about grit is how little we know, how little science knows, about building it.” D。7What does the underlined “it” refer to in the last but one paragraph?AThe brain.BThe belief.CThe learning ability. C。8What message does the author mainly intend to convey by the last paragraph?AFailure in education is unavoidable.BThe growth mindset needs further tests.CIt isnt easy to develop the growth mindset.DWe need to be gritty about getting kids grittier.D解析:推理判断题。根据最后一段内容,尤其是“But we need more.” “We need to take our best ideas, our strongest intuitions(直觉), and we need to test them.We need to measure whether weve been successful, and we have to be willing to fail, to be wrong, to start over again with lessons learned.” D。9Whats the authors purpose in writing the passage?ATo explain the concept of grit.BTo show ways of building grit.CTo reveal the importance of grit.DTo introduce the research on grit.C解析:写作意图题。通读全文,尤其是文中的“In all those very different contexts, one characteristic appeared as a significant predictor of success. It was grit(毅力)” “It turns out that gritter kids were significantly more likely to graduate”“its not just at West Point or the National Spelling Bee that grit matters. Its also in school”“So growth mindset is a great idea for building grit.” I always had a dream.
