PlaceofConferenceRoom1302TimeofConference9:55–11:35MondayCourseDescriptionOverallObjectiveTohelpthestudentswiththeirEnglishproficiencyinacademiccontextswheremedicineisthesubjectmatterCourseDescriptionRationalesforthiscourseShiftfromEnglishforGeneralPurpose(EGP)toEnglishforAcademicPurpose(EAP)andEnglishforSpecificPurposeisthetrendofEnglishteachingandlearningattertiarylevelinChina.CourseDescriptionRationalesforthiscourseAlthoughinseparable,EAPdiffersfromEGPinmanyrespectsandwarrantsspecialattentionsothatthelearnersuseEnglishlanguageproficientlyandproperlyinacademiccontexts.CourseDescriptionRationalesforthiscourseEnglishforAcademicPurposeentailsavastarrayofskillsandagoodknowledgeofthesubjectmatter.CourseDescriptionThiscourse,therefore,isframedtoprovidethestudentswithopportunitiestoexposethemselvestothesubjectmatterrelatedtomedicine,todeveloplanguageproficiencyandskillsasneededforcommunicationinacademiccontexts,andtouseEnglishlanguageinsimulatedorrealsituationswhereEnglishlanguageservesasthemediumforcommunication.ObjectivesToenrichthemselveswithknowledgeofcontentmattersuchastreatmentandpreventionofdiseases,alternativeandsupplementarymedicine,emergingandreemergingdiseases,etc.;ObjectivesToexpandbyalargemargintheirvocabulary,especiallythosespecializedtermsinmedicalcontext;ObjectivesTobeabletoprepareanddeliverpresentationwith/withouttheaidofPPTonthetopicsrelatedtomedicine;ObjectivesTobeproficientwhencommunicatinginacademiccontextsObjectivesTobefamiliarwiththecomponentsofatypicaljournalpaper,andthecharacteristicsofeachcomponent;ObjectivesTobuildupastockoflanguageforwritingjournalpapers.TextbookandTeachingMaterials《学术英语(医学)》.季佩英,孙庆祥等.2012.外语教学与研究出版社.PublishedjournalarticlesStudents’writingsStudents’PPTpresentationsRequirementsBeautonomousinyourEnglishlearning;Beengagedinout-of-classlisteningpractice;Readthetextcriticallyandgetreadyforanyactivityintheclassroom;Accomplishtheassignedoralpresentationinclass;Getdynamicallyinvolvedinanyclassroomactivities;RequirementsEnlargeyourvocabularyandlanguageknowledgeandimproveyoursenseofthetargetlanguage;Enrichyourselfwithknowledgeofmedicine-relatedissues;Accomplishwritingassignments;Ensureyourattendance.AssignmentsWritingtasksSubmitthewrittentasksintheformatspecifiedbytheinstructor;Checkandcorrectmistakes/errorsbeforesubmission;Anelectronicwordcountforallwrittentasks;Awordlimitof±10%applicabletoallthewrittentasks;Theelectronicversionemailedtotheinstructor2-3daysbeforetheduedate;AssignmentsWritingtasksApaperversion,ifrequired,handedintotheinstructorinclass;Writingtaskshandedinon
