J. Wallis1 Criticism comes in various forms and from various sources. It could come from your parents, your boss, your friends, or your teachers. No matter who makes the negative comments or how theyre said, criticism stings. We feel hurt, we get angry, and we get defensive! But criticism isnt necessarily a bad thing. As author Norman Vincent Peale once said, “The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” 2 The question isnt if we will be criticized. The question is: How will we handle it when we are?,Part IIReading Text A,Text A1,1) Does criticism come from various sources? Whom does criticism come from?,Yes it does. Criticism generally comes from your parents, your boss, your friends, or your teachers.,2) How do people feel when they are criticized?,Usually they feel hurt, they get angry, and they get defensive.,Question1,Paras. 1-2 of Text AQuestions about These Paragraphs,3) What did Norman Vincent Peale once say about most of us?,Most of us would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.,批评有各种不同的形式和各种不同的来源。 It could come from your parents, your boss, your friends, or your teachers. ,It could come .,Notes,The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism. would rather (do sth.) than (do sth. else)的句型表示“宁愿而不愿,与其宁可”的意思,than后接不带to的动词不定式。 此句would rather be ruined by praise than (be) saved by criticism中,省略了be。 ,The trouble with .,Notes,The question is: How will we handle it when we are? 本句子最后when we are应视作when we are criticized的省略形式。,The question is .,Notes, criticism / n. the act of expressing disapproval or a statement showing disapproval 批评,criticism,Language Points,e.g.,I accepted his criticism of my behavior.
