During the day, when we are working, we leave the bags tied to the wall, out of the way. At bedtime we untie them and take them wherever weve chosen to sleep. On most space shuttle flights everyone sleeps at the same time. No one has to stay awake to watch over the space plane: the shuttles computers and the engineers at the Control Office do that. If anything goes wrong, the computers ring a warning bell and the engineers call us on the radio. On the space shuttle, sleeptime doesnt mean nighttime. During each ninetyminute flight around the earth, the sun “rises” and shines through our windows for about fifty minutes, then it “sets” as our flight takes us around the dark side of the earth. To keep the sun out of our eyes, we wear black sleep masks. It is surprisingly easy to get comfortable and fall asleep in space, and we sleep differently. Some sleep upside down, some sideways, some right side up. When its time to sleep, I take my bag, my sleep mask, and my tape player with earphones and float up to the flight platform. Then I get into the bag, and float into a sitting position just above a seat, right next to a window. Before I pull the mask down over my eyes, I relax for a while, listening to music and watching the earth go by under me.When Im in space I dont need as much sleep as I do on earth. Maybe thats because when I am weightless, I dont feel as tired.Or maybe its because Im excited to be in space and dont want to waste time sleeping.1What do people in the shuttle do with their sleeping bags while working?A. Keep them where they work. B. Leave them where they sleep.C. Place them on the beds. D. Fix them to the wall.答案与解析D细节理解题。根据第一段的“when we are working, we leave the bags tied to the wall, out of the way.”可知,工作时作者他们把睡袋固定到墙上。2During sleeping time, the job of watching over the shuttle is done by _.A. the shuttles radio B. the shuttles warning bellC. people working in the shuttle D. engineers at the Control Office答案与解析D细节理解题。根据第二段的“No one has to stay awake to watch over the space plane: the shuttles computers and the engineers at the Control Office do that”可知答案。3How often does the sun rise to people in the space shuttle?A. Every 140 minutes. B. Every 90 minutes.C. Every 50 minutes. D. Every 40 minutes.答案与解析B细节理解题。根据第三段的“During each ninetyminute flight around the earth”可知,对于在飞船里的人来说太阳每90分钟升起一次。4What do we know about people sleeping in the space shuttle?A. Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience.” How right they were! “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste that helps you hang on there when the things get tough. It is the inner voice that whispers “I can do it!” when others shout, “No, you cant!” It took years and years for the early work of Barbara Mclintock, a geneticist who won the 1983 Nobel Prize in medicine, to be generally accepted. Yet she didnt stop working on her experiments. We are all born with wideeyed, enthusiastic wonder and it is this childlike wonder that gives enthusiastic people such youthful air, whatever their age. At 90, cellist Pablo Casals would start his day by playing Bach. As the music flowed through his fingers, his stooped shoulders would straighten and joy would reappear in his eyes.As author and poet Samuel Ulman once wrote, “Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”Enthusiastic people also love what they do, regardless of money or title or power. Patricia Mellratl, retired director of the Missouri Repertory Theater in Kansas City, was once asked where she got her enthusiasm. She replied, “My father, long ago, told me, I never made a dime (一角硬币) until I stopped working for money.” We cant afford to waste tears on “mighthavebeen”. We need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after “whatcanbe”. We need to live each moment wholeheartedly, with all our senses finding pleasure in the sweet smell of a backyard garden, the simple picture of a sixyearold, the beauty of a rainbow.6What is the passage mainly talking about?A. Enthusiasm is more important than experience.B. Enthusiasm can give people more success and fame.C. Enthusiastic people will never get old.D. Enthusiasm can make you succeed and enjoy life.答案与解析D主旨大意题。本文通过列举作者找工作的例子以及一些伟人成功的例子,告诉读者激情能够帮助人们走向成功,引导人
