Show some pictures of Nelson Mandela.2. Ask and answer: Do you know something about Nelson Mandela. Can you say something?3. Watch a video about Nelson Mandela.4. Translate and read “Around the world” together.Nelson Mandela was born in a small village in the Transkei region of South Africa. He was born on 18th July,1918. He was President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.Cooperative learning【Pre-listening】Review the past simple( was/were )1. The teacher shows some pictures and let students make sentences using past simple(was/were).2. Work in pairs and talk about the life in the past life. E.g.: Where were you born? What was your primary school? Who was your first teacher? Who were your first friends?3. Students write down the structure of the past simple and make some sentences.4. Play a game: A with B E.g.: A: There was a big lake. B: There were many birds around the lake. A with B: There was a big lake with many birds around it.【While-listening】Deal with words1. Complete the word map with the words and expressions from the box.头脑风暴,完成词汇图Teacher demonstrates how a word map works by putting one on the board. And ask the students to brainstorm and complete the word map individually, and then check with a partner.Teacher encourages the students to speak out more words to fill in the map on the board.2.
