The next year, she took a second trip aboard the same shuttle in October. The first woman in space was Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova who orbited the earth 48 times in 1963. She was assigned to a third flight, but that was cancelled after the Challenger exploded shortly after lift-off in 1986, claiming the lives of seven crew members on board. Sally helped investigate that accident and later that of Space Shuttle Columbia, becoming the only person to serve on the commissions investigating both accidents. In 2003, the Columbia crashed during re-entry the atmosphere, killing all seven crew members. “As the first American woman to travel into space, Sally was a national hero and a powerful role model,” President Barack Obama said soon after the news of her death broke. “She inspired generations of young girls to reach for the stars and later fought tirelessly to help them get there by advocating for a greater focus on science and math in our schools. Sallys life showed us that there are no limits to what we can achieve.” As a Los Angeles native, Sally attended Stanford University, where she earned four degrees, including a doctorate in physics, according to NASA. The right blanket can warm your bones but the wrong one can affect your sleep. I asked experts for advice on picking the perfect blanket for a good nights sleep. Heres what they told me. When it comes to sleep temperature, experts recommend following the principle: not too cold, not too hot, but just right. “People seem to sleep best at temperature between 62 and 70 degrees F,” says Dr. Alice Hoagland. When the surrounding temperature falls too low, it can rouse you from sleep. A good blanket helps drive the coldness away. At the other extreme, overheating yourself can affect your sleep as well. “Core body temperature typically drops during the first four hours of sleep,” says Dr. Hoagland. This decline in body temperature helps you fall asleep and stay asleep. “In medical care, weighted blankets are one of our most powerful tools for helping people who are anxious, upset, and possibly losing control,” says Dr. Karen Moore. These special blankets are filled with weighted pellets Weighted blankets are also marketed for general use as an aid to sleep and relaxation. Like a firm hug, weighted blankets help us feel safe.” This is the reason why many people like to sleep under a blanket even in summer. “If you want to try this type of blanket, the best weight depends on your body size and personal preference. However, 15 to 30 pounds is typical for adults,” Moor says. She adds that weighted blankets are not recommended for those recovering from surgery. “People can also have serious preferences for a particular blanket,” says Dr. Hoagland. “Regularly using a favorite blanket for sleep can help to develop a conditioned response so that sleep onset is quicker.” In fact, many sleep centers ask patients to bring their own blanket and pillow from home, which helps them fall asleep more easily.53. The author wrote the passage mainly to tell us _. A. the importance of blankets B. how to choose the perfect blanket C. different materials used to make blankets D. the history and usage of blankets54. The underlined word “rouse” in Paragraph 2 is the closest in meaning to “_”. A. wake up B. take up C. make up D. pick up55. What do we know from the passage? A. Body temperature rises when we fall asleep B. The perfect sleep temperature should be above 70 degrees F. C. Weighted blankets should be at least 30 pounds. D. DAn abandoned car in Chicago worth about $600 has been issued more than $100,000 in parking tickets over the past three years. Now Jennifer Fitzgerald, 31, is stuck with the bill but says the 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo actually belongs to an ex-boyfriend who registered the car in her name without informing her. The Expired Meter reports that from May 23, 2009 to April 30, 2012, the Chicago Department of Finance (DOF) issued 678 tickets against the car, totaling $105,761.80. It set a Chicago record both for the total number and amount of parking fines issued. In fact, it blew past the previous record holder, which was $65,000 from about 400 tickets. But Fitzgerald says she doesnt owe the city a dime and has filed a lawsuit (诉讼) in Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago, United Airlines and the ex-boyfriend. Fitzgerald has two main arguments in her case. First, she says her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Preveau, is the actual owner of the car, having purchased it from her uncle for $600 in 2008. In fact, Preveau paid for the cars title, registration and insurance, but it was registered in Fitzgeralds name. “Brandon used his income tax refund to pay Patrick $600 for the automobile,” reads Fitzgeralds complaint. “For some reasons not recalled by Patrick, however, Patrick signed the title to the car over to Jennifer.” Second, Fitzgeralds lawyer is arguing that the city should have simply towed the vehicle after 30 days from OHare Airport, where it was parked and where Preveau worked at the time. According to Fitzgeralds complaint, on or before November 17, 2009, Brandon drove the car into the parking lot and never drove it out again. And as the Expired Meter reports, Chicago law does specify that an abandoned vehicle is to be towed 30 days after being illegally parked.57. After the Chicago Department of Finance noticed the car, it_. A. wanted to break a record B. tried its best to find its owner C. kept issuing tickets against the car D. decided to play a joke on its owner58. From Paragraph 3, we know that Jennifer Fitzgerald_. A. sold the car to her ex-friend long ago B. received the car from her ex-boyfriend C. didnt know anything about the car D. wasnt the real owner of the car59. Jennifer Fitzgerald filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago because the city_. A. didnt inform her immediately it found the missing car B. didnt tow the vehicle after 30 days from OHare Airport C. didnt specify that an abandoned veh
