Enough cookies, cola, and chips! It seems that junk food is all that the children want to eat these days. Television controls their tastes. The kids see wellknown people eating potato chips, candy and other processed food, and they want to be like their heroes. How do they do it? They eat the same food. I wish there were more characters like old Popeye, the sailor, who ate spinach and not French fries. Now I expect my children to eat healthy food because I like brown rice (糙米), beans, and fresh vegetables. Im glad to cook traditional meals of meat and potatoes for them. I really cant be too upsetwith the kids because most adults arent careful about what they eat. The other night, my wife and I went to a party where there was plenty to drink but very little for us to eat. They served hot dogs, with all those preservatives (防腐剂), and hamburgers were filled with chemicals so that they looked better. Besides the meat, they had sugarfilled cookies and cake, and of course, chips. I dont want the world to change because of me, but I think that people should realize that there are alternatives to eating meat. They always tell me that I probably dont get my essential proteins (蛋白质). I feel better than ever and Im sure that its because Im a vegetarian I would really like to see more television advertisements which show the benefits of good, healthy, and natural food. 1According to the passage, it seems that _. The study, presented at the British Psychological Society annual conference, is great news for students who binge on (暴食) chocolate when revising for exams. For the study, 30 volunteers were asked to count backwards in groups of three from a number between 800 and 999 created by a computer. The findings show that they could do the calculations more quickly and more accurately after they had been given the cocoa drink. However, the same was not true when the group was asked to count backwards in groups of seven, which the researchers described as a more complex task, requiring a slightly different part of the brain. The findings also show that the volunteers did not get as tired doing the calculations if they had been given the cocoa drink, despite being asked to do them over and over for an hour. The flavanols (黄烷醇) work by increasing the flow of blood into the brain. Dark chocolate contains higher quantitiesof the chemical than plain or milk chocolate. Prof David Kennedy at NorthumbriaUniversity said that chocolate could be beneficial for mentally challenging tasks. The researchers gave the volunteers a total of 500 mg of flavanol. Although the amount was too great to be found naturally in the diet, researchers said that people should ensure that they have lots of flavanols. “The more fruit and vegetables and things that are high in flavanols, the better that is for your brain inthelongrun.”4The researchers tend to think that _. Achocolate is good for childrens health Bdelicious food improves the brains ability Cmaths is difficult for children to learn Dall students like eating chocolate for exams答案:C细节理解题。 5How did the volunteers calculations get improved after the drink? AHot drink helps students operate computers faster. BHot drink is likely to speed up the brains activity. CThe flavanols help more blood flow into the brain. DThe flavanols are chemicals that make people relaxed. 根据第三段第三句“The flavanols (黄烷醇) work by increasing the flow of blood into the brain.” 6Which of the following contains the most flavanols? DFruit. 由第三段第四句“Dark chocolate contains higher quantities of the chemical than plain or milk chocolate.”以及倒数第二句中的“the amount was too great to be found naturally in the diet”可知,黑巧克力的黄烷醇含量最高。7It can be concluded from the last paragraph that _. Aflavanols can help solve more complex problems Blower doses of flavanol have no effect on the brain Cpeople should eat more vegetables instead of chocolate Dstudents should have enough flavanols in the daily diet答案:D推理判断题。 1yummy adj. As youre busy with your studies, the weeks during the Spring Festival can be a time when training and healthy eating plans go out of the window.
