This profession deserves the special recognition and respect. There is no more appropriate time than this to honor you and others in your chosen field. You have my eternal gratefulness. Have a happy Teachers Day. The whole secret of the teachers force lies in the conviction that men are convertible. Teacher, who educate children, deserve more honor than parents, who merely gave them birth; for the latter provided more life, while the former ensure a good life. What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soul.My heartfelt thanks to you, dear teacher. On the voyage of life, you have kindled the light of hope for me. What you have done enriches my mind and broadens my view. On this day I honor you sincerely. No one deserves a bigger thank you than you. One day is hardly enough to show our gratitude. 二Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic Electives, You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below.1. What Electives to ChooseWith the reform of Chinese higher education, more and more colleges and universities put emphasis on nurturing students abilities. As a result, elective courses are available not only for excellent academic performers but also for students about the average level.Certainly, students have different reasons to choose their own electives. For some, practical skills are the essence of college education, and therefore, courses on computer science, marketing, and finance are highly preferred. On the other hand, others may hold the idea of liberal education and electives concerning literature, history, and philosophy are the most welcome.Take me as an example: being a disciple of free education, I stand for the notion that university is not a place for survival skills, but a palace of knowledge and critical reasoning. Although my major is chemistry, the electives I attend most frequently are English literature, an Introduction to Classic Music, and Different Schools of Western Painting. They really widen my horizon.1. Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic recreational activities, You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below.Recreational Activities There are all kinds of recreational activities in our daily lives. Some of them are traditional activities, such as going to the movies and plying games .And others are modern ones, such as surfing the internet and playing chess with a robot. In truth, recreational activities have opened windows in everybodys life.Recreational activities can bring us both benefit and harm. On the one hand, these activities provide us with a lot of fun, which makes us feel relaxed and enjoyable. On the other hand, they can potentially have bad influence on some people and possibly lead them into wrong actions. In my opinion, the advantages of recreational activities outweigh the disadvantages. Nothing is perfect, so little side effects should be overlooked and forgiven. Moreover, if we always want to see both sides of everything, it is hard to decide on anything.(四)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic College Students Job Hunting. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below.1. 如何解决这一问题(改变就业观念,大学生再培训等) College Students Job Hunting In recent years, college students find it increasingly difficult to get a job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent, well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon? T here are several reasons for this. To begin with, nowadays college students aim too high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary, comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently, most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider not “good” enough. Another reason is that there is a big gap between the majors some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think some students are not fit for the jobs.Solution to the problem requires efforts on both the society and the students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-toearth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent.1)近几年大学校园内出现“考证热” 2)产生这一现象的原因 3)你的看法 Certificate Craze On Campus In recent years, getting a certificate has become a new craze among college students. Just randomly ask a student on campus what he or she is busy doing, quite possibly, you may get the answer that he or she is preparing for a certificate of some kind. Why does this craze appear? There are mainly two reasons behind this phenomenon. First,it is the employment pressure that forces college students to get more certificates. With the admission expansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to face the fierce competition in the job market. How can one make himself more competitive? More certificates at hand, maybe. Second, diploma and certificates are still important standards 6by which many employers measure a persons ability. In order to increase the qualifications for a job, the students compel themselves to run from one exam to another. From my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since certificates do not necessarily prove ones ability. Being crazy in getting certifications blindly is nothing but wasting time. To conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but not getting a certificate of no practical value. (五)一)Fire Prevention on Campus1. People are alarmed by the succession of campus fires in recent years. In each of these accidents, heavy casualties were reported houses were burned down, students lost their lives, and properties were damaged. Faced with such a chilling fact, people keep asking, “What on earth results in these repeated tragedies?”A brief survey of them reveals that human factors still prove to be the leading causes. For example, three of these fires were caused by the students use of electric water-heaters. As students often leave the heaters unattended, the risks are rather high should the water in the bottle boil dry while no one is around to turn off the power. In other cases, fires were also caused by stoves, candles, cigarette butts, etc.Since most of these disasters could have been prevented if proper precautions had been taken, students should be better educated on the importance and measures of fire control. The following three reminders are of particular importance for us students: First, learn how to use a fire extinguisher. Second, double-check candles, heaters, stoves and other electric appliances, and make sure there are no open flames before leaving rooms. Lastly, do not smoke in the dorm. (六)Knowledge and Diploma1. It is generally believed that a high diploma guarantees a promising future. Some people identify high diplomas with profound knowledge and exceptional competence. Companies also tend to emphasize the academic achievement of a job candidate. Like it or not, there does exist a social reality the higher diplomas one gets, the more popular he becomes. On the contrary, other people claim that a high diploma doesnt automatically translate into knowledge. A diploma, in their eyes, is only the acknowledgment of ones educational experience rather than a guarantee of ones ability. Therefore, we can never measure the depth of ones knowledge by the grade of ones diploma. Besides, many knowledgeable people dont have a high diploma. Take Bill Gates for example. His dropping out of college cannot deny the fact that he is one of the worlds most learned men.So I must say no one should ever equate a diploma with knowledge, because a diploma is nothing but a proof of a short-term study while genuine knowledge needs ones lifelong devotion. (七)Do You Prefer High Salary or A Promising Job?1. When it comes to the choice of career, some people prefer the job with high salary. Why? Their reasons run as following: to begin with, high salary can bring them happy life; in addition, with high salary, they can do whatever they want. But some others prefer to choose a job with promising future. They base their choice on the following reasons: on one hand, a promising job itself means a raise and promotion in the future; on another hand, job with a bright future will bring them honor and sense of pride. As for me, if Im left to make the choice, Ill not hesitate to choose a promising job. First of all, I appreciate the honor and challenge it brings to me. At the same time, if I work hard, it will offer me a lot of opportunities including high salary, good position, etc.(八)my ideal college life1. In my understanding, if we refer to an ideal college life as a formal western dinner, then a high GPA, that is, Grade Point Average, should be the main course, while an active part in activities, together with associations, means the appetizer. Some romances, of course, play the role as desserts. They are the 3 key elements for an ideal college life. Those, however, are not what college life is all about. As we all know, college is wildly different from middle school. It connects not only adolescence to adulthood, but also the ivory tower to the real society. Therefore, the ideal college life is that I become matured both physically and mentally, and that I obtain qualified academic knowledge and get well prepared for society at the same time. Under this circumstance, I never expect my college life to be too ideal, or you can call it too perfect. It is not realistic to make all things on my own way, with everyone liking me, winning the first prize all the time, and so on. Of course, Id like to lead a carefree life. However, this does little good to my future. What really helps is hardships like failure, betrayal, and unjust treatment. Only after experiencing those can I know what society is like, and what life is like. To conclude my speech, I want to say, some positive experiences are surely part of the ideal college life. But, I should not forget about the negative sides. They are not less necessary.(九)1. Is it Necessary to Attend Training Classes? All across the country a great diversity of custom-made classes are mushrooming, in which special training is provided concerning computer skills, arts, sports, and other extracurricular specialties like maths and writing. Among them language crash courses for various tests, such as CET, BEC, TOFEL, IELTS, GRE and so forth, are especially noticeable for its wide range and high attendance rate. Some consider it advisable to attend such classes while others believe it unnecessary. The former argues that its far more effective to command these special skills with the help of an experienced trainer than to work at them on their own. They are convinced that these training classes can make up for what is not taught in school, hence, more competitive edge over their peers. The latter group of people, nonetheless, criticize it as a sheer waste of resources. They warn that the quality of most training courses is questionable, as they are marketed to get money out of our pocket rather than get knowledge into our head. As far as I am concerned, a little bit of such special training does us no harm, but too much of it can only prove to be counter-productive. Anyhow, the deprived free time can be better invested in recreation at weekends, talking to an old friend, or simply enjoying a long-overdue vacation.(十)How to Succeed in a Job Interview1. When applying for a job, many people, school graduates in particular, have to have an interview with the employer before they are offered the job. Many graduates, however, do not know how to succeed in such an interview. The following are some of the rules to abide by.To succeed in an interview, the applicant should demonstrate certain personal and professional qualities. Since much of the first and lasting impression of a person is the clothes he wears, the applicant should take care to appear well but modestly dressed, avoiding the extremes of too elaborate or too casual clothes. Besides, he should pay close attention to his manner of speaking, which should be neither showy nor familiar but rather straightforward, granmatically accurate, and friendly. In addition, he should be prepared to talk knowledgeably about the requirements of the position for which he is applying in relation to his own professional experience and interests. And finally, a really impressive applicant must convey a sense of serf confidence and enthusiasm for work, a factor that att interviewer value highly. The applicant who displays these characteristics, with just a little luck, witt certainly succeed in the typical personal interview. If you can bear these rules in mind, chances are that you will succeed in a job interview.(十一)要求:你是李明,给校长写信,说明学校食堂质量问题,标题如下:A letter to the university president about the canteen service on campus 例文:Mr. President: I am a freshman in our university majoring in Mechanical Engineering. First of all, I am relly sorry to trouble you, but it is canteen service that indeed bothers me. So I wrote this letter delivering some personal comments and suggestions. The quality of some cuisines needs to be improved. Everyday, with GREat expectation, entering into the canteen, we require wondful food. But is turns out to be a dream that never takes wings. Sometimes too salty, sometimes too spicy. When winter comes, the food goes cold if we arrive a little late. Apart from the quality, the price is supposed to be adjusted, too. Some food which is fragrant and delicious has been priced dramatically high that most of us cant afford. We are just wondering it is for dinner or for appreciation. From bad to worse, the lights are so somber that we had to grope the door knob in the dark for several times. Such environment makes our appetites depressed. To sum up, the service in canteen is expected to be boosted and the qualifications of public servants need to be trained as well. Customers are always right. We deserve terrific quality. So, your excellency, I , on behalf of my classmates, will be appreciated from the bottom of our hearts if you will take actions immediately. Yours respectfully Li Ming (十二) University Students Pursuit of Famous Brands1. University Students Pursuit of Famous Brands“What perfumes are you wearing?” “Arent your shoes Nikes
