Ask the students tell the class what resolutions the people they interviewed made this year and which ones are the most popular.Step Introduction and new words learning: Today we go on talking about New Years resolution. To see other people do with their New Years resolution survey. Now lets learn some words about that.Show the words on the screen. (This activity provides reading practice using the target language.) Here we have a survey result about the New Years resolution. Lets go to it and see how it was written and what the resolutions are. Read it to the class or have a student do it.Then read the instructions to the class.Say, Please make a list of the New Years resolutions in this article or you may underline the words which describe the resolutions first and then list them out on one piece of paper.Ask students to finish the activity on their own. Have students turn back to page 62 and call on some individuals to say each persons name and what that persons resolution was. Then ask some other students to tell how each person was going to make his or her resolution work.Point to the magazine article in Activity 3a. Say, Now write an article like this one. Tell about Lucys, Kims, and Manuels resolution . Tell how they are going to make their resolutions work.Step 3cWhat are some of your resolutions?Write about them.(This activity provides writing practice using the target language.) Ask some students to tell the class about their New Years resolutions. Write some of the resolutions on the board, leaving a space underneath each.Then point to one of the resolutions on the board.Ask different students to say one way the person could make this resolution work. Write one suggestion on the board under each resolution.Ask students to write about their resolutions on their own. Move around the room offering help as needed.Step 4. Groupwork: Clean and GreenImagine you work for your city. Its your job to make it cleaner. What are you going to do ? Think of a six-point plan.(This activity provides speaking and writing practice using the target language.) Ask a student to read the instruction and the example answer for the class. Ask the class. What else are you going to do to make the city cleaner? Make sure students are using going to correctly in their answers.Divide students into small groups to do the activity. Walk around the class offering language support where necessary.Did You Keep Your Resolutions?Ask students to talk to friends and family members about New Years or other resolutions the friends and family members made in the past. Have the students learn which resolutions the person was able to keep and which ones the person was not able to keep. Ask the students to write down information as they talk to each person. Then have the students tell the class what they learned.Step Culture NoteIn some cultures there are times other than New Years Day when people decide to make changes in their lives. Sometimes a birthday, a religious holiday or a folk festival marks a new beginning. Ask students what times of the year people make new beginnings in their culture. Contrast this with the making of resolutions at New Years in American and European cultures.Step SummaryToday we have learned a New Years resolution survey results. In this class we have talked a lot about the things people are going to do. It is always said that no power to speak without survey. Survey is a powerful proof to support your words.
