IntroductionEmotional intelligence quotient, also called emotional intelligence, is abbreviated for EQ. The concept of emotional intelligence is brought forward first by Yale university psychologist, Peter Salovey (1990). H states that the emotional intelligence is to monitor ones personal emotions or to identify feelings of others, and identify and use these signals to guide ones thoughts and actions. Since then EQ became known to the public and gradually was paid attention to in the field of education. In recent years, the domestic and foreign experts have done the further study on emotional intelligence, and they point out that EQ is an indispensable ability to ones success. Zhu (1993) attached great importance to the EQ in learning, and stipulated that EQ decided whether one can or not study well.It is very important to cultivate students sentiment in English teaching. Teachers should give full play to its advantages in English teaching. It can help students develop their good psychological qualities, good communication skills and teamwork spirist, and let them become the 21st centurys talents.1 EQ and English TeachingWith the implementation of the policy of reform and opening to the outside world and the rapid development of modern science and technology, our country should learn advanced science and technology from the western countries to speed up our construction of four modernizations. Nowadays learning English becomes more and more important. It is necessary for middle school students to learn English well in order that they can serve the country better in the future. The students are the future of our country. Therefore, English is placed as an important basic subject in high schools. And now test-oriented education is being changed into quality-oriented education. It is necessary to popularize foreign language teaching and improve English teaching. Only in this way can we foster talents with a srong English ability to meet the needs of the society.Improving the quality of English teaching is always important. Modern scientific research shows that the difference in learning results between students are mainly decided by the different emotional intelligence, which, in turn, is affeted by their family background, society, environment, emotion, interest, and study method. Therefore, how to improve students English teaching in the emotional intelligence, has very important practical significance. Many teachers know that when a student doesnt study well, and criticized by his teacher, his learning will get worse. On the contrary, if the teacher encourages a student by saying that he is potential in learning, his learning will become better and better. Teachers should arouse students interest in learning English. This can be acieved by integrating students life experience into English learning. Besides in teaching group work should be advocated. Furthermore teachers should pay more attention to the improvement of teaching methods, which can improve students emotional intelligence, improve teaching effects, and achieve good results.2 Cultivating Students Emotional Quotient in English Teaching 2.1 The important of the teachersbehaviorsTeachersown behavior palys an important role in students learning. Students often look to their teachers for guidance. So teachers should behave themselves well both in class and after class.2.1.1 Body languageEnglish teaching is a key part of the school education. Nowadays, in the English class, teachers instruct students and explain questions basically in English. And students are also required to use English in class. However, the students in middle schools cant speak well. Their vocabulary and expressive ability are limited too. In order to encourage students to learn English in class, body language is required. For, it can stimulate students interest in English class. So that it can make the classroom atmosphere active, invoke the students enthusiasm for study, and lead the student to understanding English easily. In middle schools, using body language in English teaching is necessary and important. Generally speaking, body language can arouse and sustain the students interest in English class. Using body language can get rid of students feeling of being dull and tired. The vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning. In the English class, if teachers stand in the platform and dont move from beginning to the end, the students must feel bored. On the contrary, in the English class, if the teachers explain the text going with body language, the students must find it interesting .The body language also made the text clearly, especially in English teaching. A Chinese famous linguist Lu Shuxiang once said English teacher is a comicactor, who is good at perform. That is to say, in English class, body language and gesture paly an important role in teaching. For example, when teaching the lesson about the time when new students first meet and they dont know each other, the teacher can introduce himself first. He can say Hello, every one. Nice to meet you. Now I will introduce myself to you. My name is Patty. I like playing ping-pong ball. For, it makes me much stronger; I like playing chess. For, it makes me cleverer; I like reading books. For, it makes one perfect. During the introduction, the teacher should use the new vocabularies and sentences structure together with a vivid expression and mating gestures as possible as he can. He smiles when saying hello to the class. He shakes hands with some students saying Nice to meet you. After his introduction, the teacher can create circumstance for students to practice. Usually, the application of body language can make the classroom active and full of happiness. Using body language in English class, students are deeply impressed by the body movement of teachers and themselves(Zhang, 2001). As a matter of fact, the effect of teachers body language on the students is reflected not only by establishing a good example, but also in shortening the teachers-students estrangement by which a more harmonious studying atmosphere is created.2.1.2 Positive EvaluationEvaluation is not only a feedback of students learning, but also a necessary step to promote the teaching. The students need teachers evaluation, because the teachers evaluation can enables the students to feel his respect and care. Therefore, during the teaching teacher should attach importance to the evaluation. Teacher must use the proper evaluation for the students in the class, especially after answering questions, teachers should use encouragement language. To a correct answer, the teacher gives positive affirmation: Good/Excellent/connected Christmas /. If the answer is not quite right, the teacher should also be encouraging by saying such as “thats almost corret, better than last time”. If the answer is absolutely wrong, the teacher should not scold the students. Instead he should find something positive in the answer and encourage the student. For example, he can say your answer is not right, but your pronunciation is very good”, or “no, its not the right answer to this question, but its also very important, thank you”and so on.” Teachers should pay attention to protecting self-respect and self-confidence of each student and, cultivating their interest in learning. In addition, teachers should also be open to students criticism so as to establish a good relationship between teachers and their students.2.2The establishing of harmonious teacher-student relationship Teaching and learning are interrelated(Wang, 2005). So, to set up a good relationship between teachers and students is very important. According to the psychological characteristic of students, they desire to close and trust their teachers. If they speak highly of a certain teacher, they will take great interest in the class. The students will attach great importance to the class. Furthermore, they will make a decision to learn the subject. It is certain that the classroom atmosphere is pronounced. That is to say, Love me, love my dog. On the contrary, if the students do not like the teacher, because of their inverse psychology, they do not like to have such class or even dont come to the class. We often can see this fact. As a matter of fact, teachers friendly appearance can encourage students studying enthusiasm(Yuan, 2005).The teacher, however, needs to spend much time talking with their students and know about their interest, hobbies. Besides, teachers should pay more attention to students mood, such as happiness, anger, sorrow, and laugh. In general, teachers should take good care of students and express their kindness to them by words, looks, actions. So that students will not feel nervous in the class. That is not to say, teachers should not criticize the students shortcomings and mistakes. No matter how teachers criticize or praise their students, they only have one purpose that is to protect them. During the criticism, teachers could not injure students self-esteem and personality. Being criticized, students could introspect and knew what teachers purpose was. From the innermost feeling, they feel a teachers criticism is the sincere love. Thus, the classroom atmosphere will become better and better. Students also want to have classes and learn the subject well. In the English class, teachers express their feeling by words, by expression which is friendly, encouraging, and trustful. So that students dare to answer the questions and do not worry about making mistakes. The students will answer the questions frequently and loudly. That is to say, students mood plays an important role in class. Setting up a good relationship between teachers and students is the best way to arouse students interest in class. Take it for example, if a students answer is wrong, his teacher should say Take it easy; Take your time; Dont be afraid of making any mistakes; Have another try. If the students answer is right, the teacher could say very good; well done! In the English class, teachers must teach students according to their aptitude. In order to maintain the enthusiasm of students to answer questions, usually, a simple question is answered by poor student. Thus, it could attract the students attention and develop their studying interest in the English class. Take Helen and her teacher for example, as everyone knows, Helen is a blind girl. She had much difficulty in study. At the beginning, her teacher established a harmonious relationship with her. This way could eliminate her minds of fear and a sense of hopelessness. As a result, Helen was interested in study. Day after day, Helen mastered the study method and became a famous person.To improve effective teaching to the poor students, teachers have very important roles to play. In teaching, teachers should create a relaxing classroom atmosphere; conduct classes in easy English and make themselves easily understood by their students. Only in this way can teachers make students feel relaxed and develop students enthusiasm so that they will gain confidence in English learning. At the same time, eachers must lessen the student psychological barriers and encourage them to be active learners. For instance, when the students are slow in answering questions, the teachers should be patient enough to help them out instead of getting angry and blaming them; they should not stop the students and directly point out their mistakes while they are speaking. Though it is said that “Failure is the mother of success”, too many failures are sure to make most of students lose their confidence, and success can arouse their confidence and courage to fight for more success. All teachers and students will be sure of this: Success is the mother of another success. No matter how small the success is, teachers should give students praise and encouragement on time, so that they can experience the happiness of success, and thus exert themselves to achieve more success. Teachers should always face their students with a smile, and try not to lose their temper, not to criticize and satirize them, especially not to make those ironical remarks. The happiness of success is a kind of very great emotional power. It can promote childrens wishes for hard working.2.3 Developing Students Communicative Competence and Teamwork SpiritThe spirit of unity and cooperation among students is important. Quality education requires many learning activities, such as :advocate students actively participate in, cooperation, exchanges and inquiry, these activities have a lot of usefull. They can promote students learning ways, improve students to learn from each other and help each other, and help sudents to collective the sense of honor and experience. The spirit of unity and cooperation also can help students develop cooperation spirit and make students become the study master. It requires the students communication activities into learning activities. English as a foreign language communication, classroom teaching is more without cooperation. In modern English teaching, the teacher should cherish this chance to cooperate, organize the students to carry on the cooperative learning as own a teaching skill, fully excavate students cooperation potentials. The 21st centurys personnel must have the work with others, the quality and ability of the students, and cultivating the teamwork spirit are the need of The Times, and to solve the problem of concentric coordination skills and techniques, education are the important content of emotional quotient. Strong English atmosphere needs of elaborate design and guide teachers to learn more, make concerted efforts to create each. Quality education advocacy students actively participate in, cooperation and exchanges, promot the students to learn from each other and help each other, the collective sense of honor and experience, developing cooperation spirit and makes students become the study master. English is a language communicative language teaching should cultivate students ability of mutual cooperation, teachers should organize the students to cooperate fully excavate students learning, cooperative potential. In English teaching cooperative learning can not only make students more active learning opportunities, but also can learn to cooperate with others. In the process of mutual discussion group, we encourage each other, difficulties and setbacks can increase the courage to overcome difficulties and solution. In the process of implementing measures, care for each other, understand each other and help each other, improve interpersonal skills, and make students learn with different backgrounds, different genders and ability of the person, is the process of knowledge communication, and emotional communication process and emotional factors can promote the development of knowledge.2.4 Fostering Students Ability to Recover from FrustrationNowdays our education objects mostly are one child in their family. They live in a good inviorment, which have no cloudy or rain. Most of them dont meet all kinds of setbacks, so when they meet these setbacks they dont know how to do with them. We teachers should use various channels to let students meet the setbacks and make them to learn how to do with them. For example, also we teachers should made some setbacks let them learn to face setbacks, risk and overcome difficulties, this method can improve students resistance capabilities. As for younger students, according to the characteristics of students age, wo teachers can cultivate students abilities of a series of activities, let them in under the guidance of teachers in schools. Under the guidance of teacher let them do what they can do by themselves, and let them enjoy life, improve self-care ability frustrations. In the student, let them to participate in activities of the class. As students in class will subject himself to find materials, the process of activity. Students in the process of activities will encounter all sorts of difficulties and setbacks. Teachers proper guidance and encouragement from their efforts help studets to solve difficulties and overcome setbacks.In the process of the growth of the students will encounter difficulties and setbacks, so educationing students to correct setbacks and teaching students to learn psychology become an important task.
