撼要 中文摘要 本文基于功能翻译理论和释意派理论，对罗贯中所写三国演义的最佳英译 本罗译本，从文化方面探求英特色与得失。功能翻译理论认麓，译者的翻译策 略是壶其翻译耍靛所决定静。在撼象概念和具体意象斡魏译孛，译者罗慕士逶过对 中国哲学调汇、官名和象征性动物的直译或意译，实现了传递中国文化内涵的译本 功能。而释意派理论提倡，翻译应跳出简单的语言符号，实现文本意义的转换。在 时闻地点帮典故的翻译中，译者并翡单方面的罨求语言的互换，丽是着力挖掘它的 内在所指，以叁己熬理解将荬再现给读者，趋清读者酶阅读障碍。当然，译老有时 难免会高估读者对中国文化的了解程度，在翻译文中所提到的各类文化现象的过程 中，释译上用力不均，造成呈现力度不一。但总体上说，罗搽士已较为成功的达到 了展现和传播中国小说和中华文化的目的。本人认为，在对这牲文化元素的处理上， 译者应适时融入更为细致的解释性翻译，以剩读者的理解。 关键词：罗贯中；罗慕士；翻译；文化；功能翻译理论；释意派理论 中文文摘 中文文摘 明末清初小说家罗贯中根据宋元时期的三国民间故事和戏剧，著成了三国演 义。它是中国吉代长篇章回小说的开出之作，更是中国文化的西科全书。其中的许 多故事为后入所传颂，形成了独特的三国文化。盘1 7 世纪末，三国演义日译本 问世以来，它已被翻译成多种语言出版，并受到国外读者的肯定与欢迎。在诸多英 译本中，影响最广的是罗慕士于1 9 9 2 年出版的全译本。 翻译界的部分学者瞥对罗译本进行过研究，也探讨过译本文化元素的翻译，但 是以本人所能涉猎的范溺来看，对此译本的文纯方面，译本学术界迄今未觅全面系 统的深入研究，是为本文撰写之缘起。 本文的理论基础涉及两方面。 功能翻译理论指出，翻译策略是内译本的预期功能决定的，也就是目的决定方 式。它要求译者根据不同麴语境匿素和翻译匿的，选择最佳的处理方法。罗慕翻 译三国演义的初衷，在于向读者展示小说的精彩内容和文化韵昧。因此在翻译 中，他没有拘泥于单一的翻译方法，而是根据不同的概念和文化内涵，采取直译， 意译等多种方式，表现中国文化，达到使读者领会含义，接收文化信息的目的。 释意派翻译理论认炎，翻译的对象不是语言，丽是借助语言表达的意义，若想 正确理解意义，译者不仅仅要拥有语言知识，还应具有足够的文化理解。该派强调 语言符号产生的认知和情感意义，支持译者在翻译过程中的补充。作为一名汉学家， 罗慕士对中囡文化有较为深刻的认识，这从他流畅的翻译中显而易见。他没有苛求 两种语言符号的对等，丽是更多的考虑到翻译的解释性和准确性，尽量使翻译内容 戬读者较易接受的方式褥以呈现。 本文以文化为视角，从微观细处入手，对三国演义罗译本进行剖析和研究， 全文分为六个章节。 第一章是综述。第一节介绍了三国演义的成书过程，小说的时代背景和主 要内容，阐述了小说多方面的艺术特色以及对中图文化的深刻影响，最屠还介绍了 作者罗贯中的生平、作品和饱创作中所表现的价值观。第二节讲述了三国演义 在国外的传播，回顾小说的重要国外译本，并简要介绍了本论文的焦点罗氏英 文全译本，分析其特色和所长，讲明其作为本论文研究对象的原因。第三节全面介 绍了本文研究罗译本所要用到的两个理论功能翻译理论和释意派理论。功能馥 译理论强调，翻译是一种具有冒的性的行力，译者对源文本的释译与其翻译露的紧 密相关。释意派理论倡导，翻译的任务是转达交际意义，而语言只是传达意义的条 件。第四节提出了本论文目的、意义及研究方法，说明罗译本的研究现状和本论文
