语境知识最大化q 外语学习 摘要 在比较母语和二语习得的基础上，本文探讨语境知识最大化对外语学习的作 用。并总结和分析了我国外语界十六位著名的学者学习英语的经历，旨在为梁瑞 清( 2 0 0 6 ，2 0 0 7 ) 提出的整体论假说和王初明( 2 0 0 3 ) 的补缺假说提供新的证据支持。 该文由四部分组成。 第一部分对整篇论文作了简介，区分了两组术语：。第二语言”与“外语”：“习 得”与“学习”。笔者认为：“第二语言”和“外语”是有区别的两个概念；。习得” 和“学习”没有本质区别，两者可以交替使用。文章对母语和二语习得( 包括外 语学习) 的异同点进行了比较。文章特别提到：在儿章母语习得的过程中，语言 环境起到了至关重要的作用。儿童从出生的那一刻起，语言结构与语境知识就同 时作用于他们的大脑。儿童在习得语言结构的同时，也习得了与其配套的语境知 识。儿童习得母语的过程告诉我们一个道理：语言的使用依赖于语境。这一点对 第二语言习得( 包括外语学习) 很有启发。 第二部分论述了语境的定义，分类及其对母语习得的重要性，介绍了语境在 儿童习得物体名称时所起的作用。语言的使用离不开语境。语境就是语言交际所 依赖的环境。一个词或词组乃至句子的特定意思只有依赖语境才能知晓。语境包 括语言语境和非语言语境。本文中所指的语境知识主要是非语言语境知识。文章 接着详细阐述了梁瑞清的语言学习整体论假说和王初明的补缺假说，以及它们对 外语学习的启示。梁瑞清( 2 0 0 6 ，2 0 0 7 ) 根据其语言习得整体论假说针对外语学 习提出两点启示：第一，外语学习和母语习得一样，与意义的理解有着密切关系， 而且习得和理解都是动态的：第二，理解在于使用，而使用离不开社会语境，外 语语境知识的最大化是提高外语水平，特别是听说水平的重要手段。王初明( 2 0 0 3 ) 提出的补缺假说将长期被忽视的语境知识学习提升到不可或缺的位置，将原本一 直归于语言形式补缺的母语迁移转而归于母语语境知识的补缺。根据这一假说， 王初明( 2 0 0 6 ) 为看待外语听说读写提供了新的视角，为改进外语学习和教学提 供了一些新思路。他认为外语学习者必须通过大量阅读和多媒体手段尽可能地丰 富外语语境知识，以扩大外语语言知识的积累以及提高语言学习的听说读写四项 基本技能。 第三部分详细描述了我国外语界十六位著名的学者学习外语( 主要是英语) 的经历。他们被分为两组：解放前上大学的学者和解放后上大学的学者。这样分 组的原因是由于解放f i 和解放后的大学在教材使用以及学生所处学习环境方面都 存在较大差异。文章接着对十六位学者的外语学习经验进行了分析讨论。很显然， i l 十六位学者的学习经历有各自不同的特点，但是，他们的学习经历中有一点是相 同的，那就是：大量地阅读原著。这些学者外语学习的成功经历都支持了梁瑞清 ( 2 0 0 7 ) 提出的观点：外语语境知识的最大化是提高外语水平的一个重要途径。 他们的外语学习经历也支持了王仞明补缺假说中的语言与语境知识的有机结合是 语言正确流利使用的前提这个观点。 第四部分详细阐述了如何在外语学习中实现外语语境知识的最大化必须指 出的是外语语境知识最大化的最终目的是提高外语水平，而外语语境知识晟大化 仅仅是提高外语水平的一种途径。对于大多数中国外语学习者而言，课堂教学是 学习外语的主要渠道。学习外语的目的就是为了使用，而语言使用依赖于语境。 因此，语境对于课堂教学具有重要作用。为了实现外语语境知识的最大化，需要 有关各方的努力和配合，包括外语课程教学大纲的制定者，教材编写者以及外
