摘要 赫尔曼麦尔维尔是美国浪漫主义时期最著名的作家之一。白鲸是他的代 表作。这部小说的主人公是亚哈船长。由于亚哈船长是这部经典作品中的主要人物， 且个性复杂，因此有很大的研究空间。尽管已经有很多人运用不同的文学批评方法 从历史、宗教、哲学、地理、种族、资本主义的本质等方面对它进行了研究，但笔 者认为原型批评是解读这个人物的绝佳视角，因为作品中存在大量原型引用和原型 暗示。本文以弗雷泽、荣格、弗莱的原型理论为依据的。传统观点认为，亚哈船长 是个病态、疯狂的形象。但通过对圣经中亚哈国王与亚哈船长的比较，通过对 悲剧英雄的性格特征、母题、暗示、叙述模式与亚哈船长的对照，发现亚哈船长在 各方面均与悲剧英雄的特征非常吻合。此外，本文通过系统地运用原型批评的方法 对其重新解读，旨在将曲解的亚哈船长还原成一位有王者风范的悲剧英雄。 根据原型批评理论，圣经是多种原型的载体。亚哈船长就可以在圣经 中找到其原型。亚哈国王和亚哈船长除了名字一致外，两者在其他方面也如出一辙， 都是傲慢无比，且公然挑战上帝的权威。弗莱提出，悲剧英雄在性格上具有以下4 个主要特征：一是具有高贵的身份。事实上，“裴廓德 号船本身就像一个王国， 而亚哈船长就是其的国王，它的统治者，既高贵又权威。第二，他具有超强的能力。 亚哈船长深谙航海知识和捕鲸技术，引领“裴廓德号成功地躲避风险，选择正确 的航道，准确地确定船的位置，靠嗅觉断定白鲸的附近位置。他具有高超的捕鲸技 术，英勇无畏，冲锋在前，亲自与白鲸交锋。他具有卓越的领导才能，成功地激励 全体船员意气风发地与他共同踏追捕白鲸的征程，并牢牢地确立自己坚不可摧的绝 对权威，使任何人不敢造次。第三，悲剧英雄必然经历成长的3 阶段：分离、转变 和回归。他告别妻子孩子，拒绝正常的生活方式及乐趣，是他分离的表现。他曾与 人交流，对自己的行为犹豫、反思，这是英雄的转变阶段。英雄的回归就是死亡 重生的原型。在与白鲸的三天惨烈对决后逝去，而这又是重生的仪式。悲剧英雄必 须有牺牲的精神。在第1 3 0 章中，亚哈船长站在甲板上的姿势与十字架上的基督如 出一辙，生动地诠释了替罪羊原型。此外，他为了实现自己的目标放弃妻儿和正常 n 的生活，也是巨大的牺牲。在悲剧英雄的事迹中，追寻、复仇和预言是永恒的母题， 而在亚哈的事迹中这些母题始终是伴随他的。亚哈船长对白鲸的不懈追寻，是以复 仇为根本动因的，而费达拉、以利亚、皮普等人的预言魔咒般逐一应验。在悲剧英 雄的世界中，阴影和曼荼罗是最觉的原型暗示。而他们在亚哈船长的事迹中也反复 出现。白鲸就是亚哈船长的阴影而曼茶罗则通过生与死、善与恶的对立统一、相辅 相生中得以实现。对亚哈船长的故事以他失去一条腿，远离家人准备复仇之行开始， 这意味着灾难的开始。途中，他如国王一样生活在船上，享受至高无尚的权力。他 多次经历了路过轮船的善意劝告，那是来自己上帝的爱；经历了内心对自己行为的 反思，这是他最顺意的时候。然后，他没有抓住这些机会，以死亡告终。这是倒u 字型叙述模式，典型的悲剧叙述模式。
