摘要 语言与文化密切相关，不同的文化背景以种微妙的方式影响着交际。作为不同 文化中普遍存在的一种语言现象和言语行为，拒绝语在我们的只常交流中起着非常重要 的作用。本文以a u s t i n 和s e a r l e 的言语行为理论和l r m a o 的“相对面子指向的构 想 为理论依据，从谱用学的角度对中加社会人士在实施拒绝言语行为时的策略选择进 行了研究，黟在发现它们之间的异同以及策略选择背后的文化价值取向。 本研究采用语篇补全测试问卷的形式，共十二个问题涉及到不同社会地位的人，涵 盖询问，建议，邀请和提供四种可能诱发拒绝的言语行为。在参与本次调查的六十名受 试者中，有三十名以汉语为母语的中国公司职员，三十名英语为母语的加拿大公司职员。 他们年龄在2 4 到5 0 岁之间包括管理人员和普通员工。 本研究希望达到四个目的：( 1 ) 找出中国和北美的社会人士在日常人际交往中所使 用拒绝策略的异同。( 2 ) 分析他们在拒绝策略表达方式上的差异。( 3 ) 找出社会地位的 差异对拒绝策略使用的影响。( 4 ) 探究影响中国和北美社会人士实施拒绝言语行为的文 化价值取向。论文共分六个部分：第一章介绍了研究的背景，目的，意义以及论文的结 构。第二章是文献综述。首先，介绍了掇绝言语行为的定义和拒绝策略的分类方法，其 次回顾评论了以往在这个领域的研究。第三章为论文分析提供理论框架。主要是言语行 为理论和l r m a o 的“相对面子指向的构想。第四章介绍了研究方法。第五章通过 分析数据，对调查结果进行讨论。第六章是论文的结尾，指出了本研究的不足之处以及 相关的建议。 拒绝言语行为研究表明：( 圭) 中国人和北美入在实施拒绝言语行为时，既有共性 也存差异。( 2 ) 共性主要表现在：总体而言，两组被调查对象在拒绝时，间接策略的使 用要多于直接策略。这表明中医和北美文化都认圈间接拒绝要比直接拒绝更加耗貌。此 外，两组都喜欢使用原因，选择和表示遗憾等策略。( 3 ) 差异主要表现在：北美人在拒 绝时所采用的策略多于中国人，但是相比较面言，中国人更加倾向予使用阗接策略，并 且在策略选择时对方的社会地位更加敏感；在拒绝策略的表达方式上，两者最大的差异 在于“道歉”的顺序，中国人倾向于先道歉，北荚人多最后道歉；此外，中函入在拒绝 策略的选用上也呈现了一些新特点。( 4 ) 不同的文化价值取向也影响中国人和北美人施 拒绝言语行为时策略的使用。中国入实施裢貌拒绝多力尊重他人的积极面子，北美文化 中，礼貌拒绝在于不干涉他人的自由，即尊重他人的消极面子。中囡人比较注意公众形 v i 象，强调社会同一性，丽英语作为本族语的人更注重个人形象，追求个人鑫主性。毒于 受到传统观念的影响，中国人更注重社会地位的差异；相比之下，英语作为本族语的人 更注重追求所谓的个入权利和“平等”，对地位的表现不太敏感。 本研究将有助于人们更好地了解中两方拒绝言语行为中的文化差异，提高语言使用 者在不闻豹语境中恰当地使用拒绝策略的能力，减少语用失误，增强跨文化交际的能力。
