childhood memory. the words come back to you as clearly as when you sang them all those years ago. researchers at the university of edinburgh studied the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. they found that remembering words in a song was the best way to remember even one of the most difficult languages. here is what they did. researchers took 60 adults and randomly divided them into three groups of 20. then they gave the groups three different types of “listen-and-repeat” learning conditions. researchers had one group simply speak the words. they had the second group speak the words to a rhythm, or beat. and they asked the third group to sing the words. all three groups studied words from the hungarian language for 15 minutes. then they took part in a series of language tests to see what they remembered. why hungarian, you ask? researchers said they chose hungarian because not many people know the language. it does not share any roots with germanic or romance languages, such as italian or spanish. after the tests were over, the singers came out on top. the people who learned these new hungarian words by singing them showed a higher overall performance. they did the best in four out of five of the tests. they also performed two times better than those who simply learned the words by speaking them. dr. katie overy says singing could lead to new ways to learn a foreign language. the brain likes to remember things when they are contained in a catchy 3, or memorable 4, tune 5. dr. ludke said the findings could help those who struggle to learn foreign languages. on the university of edinburghs website dr. ludke writes, “this study provides the first experimental evidence that a listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.”25. the “song” mentioned in the first paragraph is intended to_.a. recall the past b.compare the childhood with the presentc. attract the readers d. introduce the topic26. according to the passage which language doesnt share the same root with germanic or romance languages?a.spanish b. english c. italian d. hungarian27. based on the last two paragraphs, we can conclude that _a. the brain probably works best when the foreign language learners sing the words.b. a listen-and-repeat method is very effective for any language learner.c. singing is the best way to learn a language.d. dr. katie overy and dr. ludke disagree with each other.28. in which situation can the finding of the research be applied?a. a mother is going to teach her baby how to speak. b. an american is going to learn some chinese.c. a student is going to learn a new english song. d. a child is going to have his first music lesson.c it is my daily mission to just get through the day, or i just dont feel like going to school, but maybe today is going to be a good day. this is a struggle for kids and teens who suffer harm at the hands of their bullies(恃强凌弱者). unfortunately, these are not just random quotes, these were my thoughts when i was younger and im sure the thoughts of millions of other kids. according to national education assn, statistics indicate that about 282,000 students in secondary schools each month are physically attacked and 90% of them report being victims of bullying. it is not just a single problematic concept and it does not only affect a few children, it affects all of us, our community, and it should be considered a school wide problem. how many deadly shootings on school campuses has our nation witnessed in recent years? according to reports, many were tied to a history of school bullying, and revenge (复仇,报复)was the shooters motivation(动机). our school systems are continuously negatively affected. according to the american psychological assn. , schools where students reported a high rate of bullying had lower scores on standardized tests. this issue is affecting the schools ability to meet federal requirements to receive governmental funding and creates an immense pressure upon school officials to improve their standardized test scores and to keep their schools recognition. bullying can be related to absence, lower grades and dropping out of school altogether the brave act policy requires that all types of bullying be reported to the appropriate authorities within seven days. if society wants to end school bullying and carry on stricter polices, they should support this proposed law. every child and teen needs someone to stand up for them, and it is our duty to see that every community has a great school system that provides a safe environment and offers equal educational protection. 29. which of the following is true according to the passage?a. many students stay home to avoid school due to their bad performances in school. b. many deadly shootings happened on school campuses because shooters hate school. c. school bullying is more than an individual problem. d. school bullying has little effects on school. 30. which of the following can bullying be related to?a. lower grades, dropping out of school and absence b. lower grades, safe environment and absencec. more dropouts, absence and schools recognition d. more dropouts, absence and improved test scores31. what should be done to end school bullying?a. the society should support the proposed law. b. parents should care more about their childrenc. schools should punish their school bullies d students should learn to protect themselves. d not long ago, people could only buy organic food(有机食品) in small shops. today it is common in most major supermarkets. the reason for the increase is that more and more people are demanding food grown without chemicals. since the 1990s, organic farm production has gone up 20 percent every year. this pattern is expected to continue around the globe. australia leads the worldin land used for organic agriculture. it has four times as much land devoted to organic farming as all of asia. however, most of the land is not very fertile, and it only produces a modest amount of food. argentina is a distant second, followed by brazil, the united states and china. in africa, only a very small amount of land is registered for organic farming. that does not mean africa relies on chemicals. in fact, many farmers do not use chemicals because they cannot afford them. yet there are no programs for these farmers to prove they do not use chemicals. without these programs their food can never be approved organic. india has had the most dramatic recent increase in organic farming. like many other countries, india sees continual growth in organic food sales around the world. this, of course, leads to growth in profits. sales of organic food were more than doubled from 2000 to 2005. like india, many countries are trying to increase commercial organic farming to get a share of the sales. this has led to criticism. some people believe that organic farming should not just be about making money. they think the goal is to help the environment. others say organic farming will not continue if it is not profitable(营利的). they say that people should be able to make money while providing food that is healthy to mankind. 32.what is the passage mainly about?a.countries all want to make money from organic farming.b.farming organically is growing around the world.c.people do not want to eat food with chemicals in it.d.organic food has become much more common.33.why do people want to increase organic farming?a.profits from organic farming help make approval programs.b.more and more people demand chemicals to grow food.c.organic food is good for human beings. d.there are fewer chemicals available to the human beings.34.from the passage, it can be said that _.a. the us is the fourth largest organic farming countryb. india uses the least land to farm organicallyc. china and india have the same amount of organic farmlandd. brazil uses less land to farm organically than china35.it can be inferred from the passage that _.a. india will soon become the largest grower of organic foodb. people who eat food with chemicals have longer lifespan(寿命)c. there will be more organic farms as demand for organic food goes upd. little countries will farm organically as the environment gets worse第2节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10)
