Ability Aims:(1) Improve the ability of fast reading: scanning and skimming. (2)To practicing notes of the important information form a reading text (3)To distinguish the use between adverbs and adjectives (4)To identify paragraph topic in a reading text Moral Aims:(1)Let the students know the position of the Antarctic(2introduce the difficulties of Amundsen and Scotts journey to the Antarctic(3)Learn how to use comparative structures and relative clauses.Key Points:(1) Teach the following words and expressions Vocabulary: hopeless 没有希望的 cheerful:愉快的,高兴的 distant:远处的,久远的 function:功能,起作用 patience:耐心 nationality:国籍 Phrases: break down 1).(机器, 车辆等)坏了 Eg. We are sorry to arrive late, but the car broke down. 2).(身体)跨了 His health broke down. have difficulty/problem with sth have difficulty/problem (in) doing sth 3).干某事有困难 Eg. I dont have much difficulty with English grammar. He has some difficulty (in) understanding that mans accent. (2) Get the students to know more knowledge about the Antarctic. Lets enjoy the wonderful Antarctic and ask the student the following questions. Questions:1、 Who is the person to climb up the Antarctic?2、 When did they go?3、 How much do you know about AntarcticConclusion: Antarctic is an area with 14 million sq km ice-free, 13.72 million sq km ice-covered. It is the coldest, windiest and driest continent in the world and it also has many animals lived on it, such as penguin, seal, salangane and so on, therefore, in the history , many adventurers have tried to climb it, Amundsen, Norwegian, the first man to break the awesome silence of the worlds southernmost point in 1911. Step 2 While reading(1) Get the main idea of each part.Pares Main Ideas 1The race to the South Pole was on. 2-4Amundsens team won the race 5-8The return journey which was of great difficulty 9Scott and his companions became heroes because of great courage (2)Read the text quickly and decide whether the statements are true or false and then answer the questions 1 .Scott and Amundsen started their journeys in the polar spring.
