As to me,Im in favor of the first idea. The following are the reasons why I agree with it. First of all,as a student,we should obey the rule of our school. We are required to wear school uniforms on weekdays. Besides, school uniforms help students avoid being compared to others about the clothes.Whats more, school uniforms encourage students to feel like part of a bigger group. For all these reasons,I think that students ought to wear school uniforms at school. In a word, I think highly of school uniformsTopic 4Should All High School Students Wear School Uniforms at School Time?Pro-side arguments: 1. It helps to enhance students sense of unity.2. It is a symbol of the school.3. It narrows down the (economic and social) gap between students from poor families and rich families.Con-side arguments:1. It hampers the development of individualism.2. It can not satisfy some students taste for fashion and eye for beauty.Reference:Uniform is a standard set of clothes which is worn by a group of people. They may be members of an organization or a group of people having the same ideas. There may be thousands kinds of uniform in the world. Students, policemen, doctors, lawyers, teacher, security guards and many others will wear uniform when they are on duty. Boys uniforms often consist of dark trousers and light-colored shirt, maybe a jacket in cold weather. A girls uniform might consist of a skirt and blouse, and also a jacket in winter time. But it seems that more and more people say that it may not be a must for students wearing their school uniform. People debate on this issue for many times. There are certain reasons why a student should wear uniform to go to school. School uniform is identification for students. It is a respect to the school. And also, wearing uniform can show the tidiness and discipline of the school, decrease discrimination among peers. Further more, it can save the students time on choosing what to wear to school. It is a place for study, not a place for fashion. Students should concentrate on their study but not their clothes. On the contrary, there are voices from the students saying that there will be more freedom wearing casual clothes. They also say that uniforms are expensive and ugly, and even some of them say that they feel shameful when they wearing those ugly clothes walking on the streets. Is that really so bad to wear uniform to school. Lets have a deeper look at those reasons.Firstly, a uniform represents the school. A person wearing a set of uniform represents that he/she is a student. Uniform is the symbol of students. Just as a doctor wearing his white jacket, when he puts on his jacket, it means that he is a doctor. It is the same as the police, lawyers and so on. Most of the jobs and careers required employees to wear certain kind of uniform. An office manager wears a business suit. A sailor wears a set of sailor outfit. A lawyer wears a wig and a dark gown. A garbadgeman wears is special clothes. Careers which you can think of need to wear uniform to show their professionals. Students should also wear a school uniform to indicate their identity, and also show the respect to their schools. A person wears his/her uniform well to show the respect to his/her career. Therefore, a school uniform is necessary for students.Secondly, wearing a school uniform can show the unity and tidiness of the school. Many people say that there are too many rules in school. It is not easy to follow all the rules and standards of the school. This will increase the burdens of the students. I strongly disagree with this point of view. A school is a place to learn knowledge, discipline and self-control. The whole school learn the same things, wear the same set of uniform, there are no differences between students. This “burden” is shared by the whole school. The whole school is the same and the uniform is just like a “promise” of the school. Once you wear the uniform and enter the school, all students will be equal. No matter you are rich or poor, pretty or ugly, tall or short; the requirement is the same, to learn what you should know. A school is a place for students to learn, to study. Students should concentrate on their studies but not what they wear. Lastly, school uniform can keep out some unnecessary disturbance on students studies. For example, if the students need not to wear their school uniform, those who are richer will wear the most expensive brand names while those who are not so wealthy will wear some casual clothes to school. Then, school will become a fashion show. Students will compare their clothes and styles. Those richer students may tease on those who wear some usual clothes. Sometimes, even they will gather together to form group, laugh at others or discuss their clothes. Even though those rich students do not laugh at other classmates. Those not wealthy students will feel inferior or self-abased on themselves. This causes much harmless to those students studies and self-esteem. To put this aside, we assume that students will not tease at others. There is still a very unhealthy phenomenon we need to look into. Students tend to spend more time on choosing the clothes for school. A survey says that an American high-school student starts his usual day at about 7 am. The first thing comes up to him is to choose what should he wears to school for the day. America is a good example of not wearing uniform to school; however, it is found out that students spend more time on choosing clothes rather than having a leisure breakfast. Is that really wise to not wear school uniform to school. There are voices from students and parents saying that the cost of the uniform is very high and not worthy. But wearing different clothes to school is also a chance for students to buy more clothes. Uniform may need only a few sets of them for the whole year. Wearing casual clothes will need not only a few sets, maybe a dozen of them. It is because nobody is willing to wear similar clothes all the day other than uniform. The cost will be higher than buying a few sets of them. These few sets will turn into the most precious memories in their life. As a conclusion, wearing uniform is always better choice for students rather than wearing casual clothes. Uniform can represents the identification of students, the respect to the school and also the respect of being a student. And also, uniform can show the unity of students of the school. This can teach the students to learn discipline and self-control. To endure something they do not accept can steel them. And also, uniform can lower some unnecessary problems. Students will not compare themselves on the brands or styles of their casual clothes. Every student is fair in the school no matter how they are different in background. They can also save more time for study rather than wasting time to choose what they should wear for school. A lower cost of clothing can save the money for the parents for better use. With the above strong evidence, I strongly agree that students should wear uniform to school.利 1. one of the chief benefits of school uniforms is their ability to make schools safer. Studies have shown that they help to reduce gang influences. 2. school uniforms helps to eliminate socio-economical barriers. Many students come from diverse backgrounds; however, inside the walls of the school, economic advantages and disadvantages are no longer obvious. 3. If students wear uniforms, they will remember that they are students and they will always be reminded of what students should or shouldnt do. 4. It is important that students pay more attention to their school work than to their clothes. Caring too much about how they dress shouldnt be a big concern for students. If they wear uniforms, they dont have to worry about what they wear. The Advantage of School UniformsDid you know that as many as twenty-five percent of the nations pubic elementary, middle, and junior high schools have successfully implemented a school uniform policy? (Isaacson, 1998) School uniforms greatly benefit both the students and faculty by creating an atmosphere in which the students are able to get the most out of their education. I believe that all students should wear school uniforms regardless of whether or not the school is public. Below are clear-cut arguments in favor of school uniforms. First, one of the chief benefits of school uniforms is their ability to make schools safer. Studies have shown that they help to reduce gang influences. (Isaacson, 1998) Many gang members wear particular types of colors and clothes to signify their membership to a certain gang. With every student wearing the same articles of clothing, gang members will not be able to establish a rivalry within the school. Uniforms also minimize violence by reducing some sources of conflict. A Long Beach Superintendent stated the first year that the uniforms had been implemented into his school, crimes decreased by thirty-six percent, school violence by fifty-one percent, and vandalism to the school dropped eighteen percent. (US Dept. of Ed., 1996) Uniforms will also make it easier for trespassers to be identified. (Ryan & Cooper, 2000) These trespassers will stick out like a soar thumb because they will not have on a uniform like everyone else. Identifying and properly escorting the trespassers to where the need to be will ensure parents that the school is a safe and secure place for their kids to get an education. Second, school uniforms helps to eliminate socio-economical barriers. Many students come from diverse backgrounds; however, inside the walls of the school, economic advantages and disadvantages are no longer obvious. (R, 2000) Parents incomes no longer determine how well his or her son or daughter dresses the next day at school. Uniforms help to erase the tense cultural and economic differences among the students. Not only do students and teachers benefit from the wearing of uniforms, but parents do as well. Parents are no longer pressured to buy the latest fashions; therefore they spend less money on clothes and fashionable apparel. Third, school uniforms help to promote structure and discipline inside of the classroom. This structure creates a strong learning environment and improves the students behavior and attitude towards schooling. In 1998 a study done by The National Association of Elementary School Principals and Lands End discovered that schools with an active uniform policy had almost a twenty percent better discipline rate than that of a non-active uniform policy. Studies also showed that student achievement was increased by ten percent. (NAESP, 1998) Because of the learning atmosphere created by uniforms, students are more likely to concentrate on their schoolwork and strive for great grades. Over the many years of this ongoing debate there has only been one case in which the state lost the courtroom ruling, which was the case of Tinker vs. Des Moines Independent School District. In 1965, Des Moines schools suspended two teenagers for wearing black armbands to protest the war in Vietnam. This case went all the way to the Supreme Court. The Court ruled that in public schools, which are run by the government, students are not to “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.” It said that schools could only limit students freedom of expression if their writings or behaviors were disruptive to the functioning of school or if it invades the rights of others. (NAESP, 1998) It is evident that in many schools across the nation the types of clothes that kids wear to school are disruptive to the functioning of school. Therefore, the schools are not infringing on the Fourteenth Amendment, and do have the right to implement their own policy as long as it is in reason. In conclusion, we should have school uniforms because overall they help to make school a better place. Uniforms help to eliminate economical barriers, help to reduce violence in the schools, and help in raising students academic achievement. What more could an educator ask for? I have stated many of the benefits that uniforms have on students and the school as a whole. The results of school uniforms are crystal clear, and our administration and educators would be foolish not implementing them into our school system. Are uniforms a symbol of a school? Does wearing a uniform have a special meaning for students? Is it necessary for students to wear them? I think these questions are difficult to answer. People are confused about this issue. Although I feel people should have the right to choose what they want to wear, I also think wearing uniforms has many advantages. If students wear uniforms, they will remember that they are students and they will always be reminded of what students should or shouldnt do. In addition I think it is important that students pay more attention to their school work than to their clothes. Caring too much about how they dress shouldnt be a big concern for students. If they wear uniforms, they dont have to worry about what they wear.Should students be in uniform?Whether elementary and high school studentsshould be in uniform or nothas long been a controversial issue. Some people argue that students should have the freedomto decide what to wear at school. They believe that having students wear school uniformswould violate their human rights.Besides, students who must be in uniform wouldnt haveopportunities to learn how to dress appropriatelyin accordance with different occasions. The arguments above seem to be rational;however, on the ground of two reasons,I still believe that students should be in uniform. One reason that students should wear school uniforms isfor the sake of campus security, or rather, students safety. Some might contend that the regulation of dress codewould violate students human rights. However, if we try to imagine how difficult it would befor the whole school to distinguish students from outsiderswhen students could just wear whatever they like to schooland then to weigh the advantage and disadvantageof this regulation, most people, including I,would then go for it rather than go against it.After all, having human rightswhich cannot promise individual safety is meaningless. The other reason for my being in favour ofthis school regulation has to do with students learning.People who oppose the rule maintain that having opportunitiesto dress freely at school would contribute tostudents preparation for their future jobs.Nevertheless, having said so, there is still no denyingthat it does take more time for studentsto choose everyday clothes themselvesthan just to wear uniforms to school. In addition, some students might try to show offby wearing something smart every dayand thus be distracted from their study, which is supposed to beone of the main purposes of school education. In view of the facts above,it becomes obvious that it would be better for studentsto comply with the dress code. In fact, there are merits and demerits in both assertions, depending on what perspectives we view this issue fromand what we view as having higher priority.Although the right to dress freelyand the knowledge of how to dress properlyare both important to students, their significance would become lesswhen they are compared with campus securityand students present school learning. Therefore, it would be to everyones advantageto have students wear school uniforms to school. In my opinion, the students should wear school uniforms in school. You know, different people have different fashion. So it can make our eyesight bewildering. Maybe someone will wear extravagant clothes. This is not suitable for students. If someone wear tights, he cant have some sports. And it will also hurt himself. If you wear uniform in school, it will save you a lot of trouble and time. You dont need to think about what to wear tomorrow. And the school uniforms are causal. You can wear it when you have P.E. You dont need to think about the accessories to clothes. Its simple. If all the students in school wear the same uniform, you can feel formal. If you have any trouble out of school, people will know that you are a student and they will do something for you. Therefore, I think school uniforms are both causal and formal. Wearing school uniform is necessary and helpful. So it sucks to wear the same outfit to school every day, but it sure beats being late for class every morning because you cant decide what to wear! Then again, school uniforms can be pretty blah2, right? So find out how to make a school uniform go from conservative to stand-out3 stylish! Rolled and Relaxed You may think theres nothing cool about a blouse or button-down4 shirt, but there are ways to make them hip5. Wear a tank top, T-shirt or long-sleeve tee in a
