Whats Next?2015 saw things heat up and get out of hand, and not just in politics.A record warm December raised average temperatures enough to make 2015the second hottest year on record in the United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations National Climate Monitoring Annual Report, whichwasreleased Thursday. The United Nations had previously reported that 2015 was shaping up to be the warmest year on record for the whole planet.Last year was also the third wettest on record in the U.S. and saw ten weather- or climate-related disasters that each caused at least $1 billion in damage in the U.S.and killed a total of 155 people. These includea drought, two floods, five severe storms, a wildfire, and a winter storm.Theaverage U.S. temperature was 54.4F, 2.4F above the 20thcentury average, and second only to2012s record warmth. This was also the 19th year with average temperatures above the average for the century.Every state reportedabove-average annual temperatures. The warming was particularly obvious across most of the eastern half of the country in December, when many places saw temperatures 30 degrees above normal and many records were set. This mirrored changes seen in the Arctic that month, when temperatures rise sharply to 50 degrees above normal. Part of this warming was driven by a strong El Nio, or periodic warming in the Pacific Ocean, but some of it can also be attributed to global warming, says meteorologist Eric Holthaus, who was not involved with the federal report. The analysiscomes less than a month after the U.S. and 194 other countries signed an agreement in Paris to more aggressively counter the effectsof climate change.“Even if all the initial targets in Paris are met, well only be part of the way there when it comes to reducing carbon from the atmosphere,” said President Barack Obamaat the time. Still, the agreement represented “a turning point” by setting up “the architecture for doing so, he said.NOAAs climate monitoring center doesnt issue predictions for future weather, but the agencys Climate Prediction Center does. That teams forecast for the next three months calls for warmer-than-average temperatures in much of the country, although parts of Texas and the Southeast may be a little cooler than usual. As Lancaster University Professor Gail Whiteman told the Weather Channel, climate change means extreme weather is the new normal.41. According to the NOAAs report, we can know that _ .A. 2015 is the second hottest year on record in the USB. 2015 was the warmest year on record for the whole planetC. 2015 was the wettest on record in the USD. 2015 saw things heat up and get out of hand42. BA few things to consider before booking a flight: With fuel costs rising and airlines finding more fees to impose on travelers every day, airfare isnt getting any cheaper. Since you cant drive to all your dream destinations, flying is the only way to go sometimes and, undeniably, the fastest. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to find the most affordable fares and also avoid paying as many extra charges as possible when you plan ahead. Getting the best fare Airlines put out their fare sales on Tuesday morning, making this day the best day to book a flight for less.Fly during the least popular times. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are the slowest days to fly, which means cheaper deals than the rest of the week. You can also find reduced rates on early morning flights, since many people dont like to get up before the sun to get to the airport. Earlier boarding times can also considerably cut down your chances of getting bumped on an overbooked flight or delayed because of other delayed flights or mechanical issues.Choose your seat later. Some airlines charge you to pick your seat when you book online, adding even more to the bottom line of your ticket cost. If you show up early on your travel day, you can still get suitable seats. Some of the best seats get held back until flight day, unless others are willing to pay extra for them ahead of time, so you still have the chance at one of those.Fly on holidays. You already know that summer is the most expensive time to fly, and even though most other times are more affordable, the days surrounding holidays can be crazy. Save big if youre willing to travel on major holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.Dont wait until the last-minute to book. Many travelers dont know that theres a sweet spot for booking and getting the best price on your tickets. Book too early or too late and you could end up paying more than you need to. The best time to book is between three months and six weeks from when you want to travel. Avoiding extra fees Airlines will charge for just about anything these days. Some have even toyed around with charging customers for using the restroom. All those extra fees can certainly add up, but theres no reason to pay them if you dont have to. Here are some tips to keep money in your wallet once you get to the airport.Do you have a tried and true method of getting the best deal on your flights? Let us know. 46. Why do we choose flying to our destination?A. The airfare is getting cheaper.B. Sometimes it is the only way to go.C. It doesnt need extra moneyD. The fuel cost is rising,47. Rate on early morning flight is usually reduced because_.A. many people dont like to get up early.B. it can reduce the chance of getting on an overbooked flightC. It can avoid the delayed because of the flightD. It is the slowest time to fly.48. If you want to get a suitable seat without paying extra money, youd better _.A. pick your seat when you book online.B. show up early on your travel dayC. hold back the best seat until flight dayD. pay the airfare ahead of time49. You cant get the best ticket by _.A. booking between 40-90days before your tripB. reserving on Tuesday morningsC. choosing to fly on major holidaysD. fixing the time on summerCThe relationship between exercise and cancer has long puzzled experts.Exercise is strongly associated with lowered risks for many types of cancer. People who regularly exercise generally prove to be much less likely to develop or die from the disease than people who do not. At the same time, exercise involves biological stress, which typically leads to a short-term increase in inflammation(炎症) throughout the body. Inflammation can contribute to higherrisks for many cancers. Now, a new study in mice may offer some clues into the relationship between exercise and cancer. It suggests that exercise may change how the immune system deals with cancer by boosting certain immune cells and other chemicals that, together, can relieve cancer or fight it off altogether. To try to better understand how exercise can protect the body against cancer, scientists at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and other institutions decided to closely examine what happens inside mice at high risk for the disease. The scientists first implanted skin cancer cells into the mice before providing half of them with running wheels in their cages while the other animals nothing. After four weeks, far fewer of the runners had increased the cancer cells than the sitting animals and those that had been diagnosed with the disease showed fewer and smaller damage. In a way, running seemed to be helpful in fighting against the cancer.Next, the scientists undertook the far more challenging task of making the process backward. To start, they drew blood from both the runners and sitting animals and cancer cells in both groups. Then they looked at how the various samples were different. As expected, they found much higher levels of the beneficial chemicals in the blood of the exercising animals, especially right after they had been working out on the wheels but also at other times of the day. So the scientists repeated their original experiment multiple times. But in some of these follow-up experiments, they injected the runners with a substance that blocked the production of beneficial chemicals and gave sitting animals large doses of added chemicals. Then they again looked at the animals blood and other cells. What they now saw was that when running mice could not produce certain chemicals, they developed cancer at the same rate as the sitting animals, while the sitting animals that had been injected with extra chemicals fought off their cancer better than other sitting mice. With these results, “we show that voluntary wheel running in mice can reduce the growth of cancer” said Pernille Hojman, a researcher at the University of Copenhagen who oversaw the new study.“But mice, obviously, are not people, and it is impossible to know from this study whether a similar process occurs in humans. ”Dr. Hojman said.“So the theory,” she said, “that seemed to partially protect the running mice in this study from cancer, can also happen in people,” If we still need it, to get up and move.50. By doing the experiment, the scientists wanted to _.A. better understand how exercise can protect the body against cancerB. prove exercise can contribute to higher risk for many cancersC. undertake a challenging task of making the processD. show moderately intense exercise will increase beneficial chemicals in people.51. The passage main tells us that _.Aexercise can partly protect people from cancer B. good chemicals can be produced by exerciseC. the relationship between exercise and cancerDif we need it, to get up a
