By speaking to a baby, the parent helps the baby understand what language is and what it is for. Children feel love and joy in the sounds of words. They try to talk back. As babies listen and speak, they store up facts and ideas. Certain things children do in the early years help them learn. Young children enjoy looking at picture books. Later, the parent reads books that the child can look at as well as listen to. At age five many children are beginning to read and write. Some can recognize their own names. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. With an online course, you can join a class, do assignments on the Internet, and even communicate with classmates in chat rooms or on bulletin boards(公告板).Technology has even reached the point where students can interact with other students and the teacher through high-quality web conferencing(网络会议).All of these activities can be done from the comfort of your home or laptop (手提电脑): any time, any place.Second, getting such a degree can, in some cases, be cheaper because you dont have to pay costs related to an overseas adventure: air-tickets, housing, local transportation, etc.Potential Disadvantages: For all these benefits, there are a number of disadvantages to this kind of learning. Above all else, you have to consider how a degree from an online school will be received by future employers because they might feel that the academic standards of such an online institution are not as high as a regular program.Second, you probably wont have face-to-face contact with other students since everything is online. Such contact is very important in learning how to deal with many aspects of non-verbal communication that arent obvious in an online chat room.51. It is possible to get an online degree thanks to .
