8it was the final examination for an introductory english course at the local university._1_ many such freshman courses,it was designed to _2_ out new students, having over 700 students in the class!the examination was two hours long, and exam booklets were provided.the professor was very _3_ and told the class that _4_ exam paper that was not on his desk in _5_ two hours would not be _6_ and that the student would _7_.half an hour into the exam,a student came _8_ and asked the professor for an exam booklet.“youre not going to have _9_ to finish this,” the professor stated sarcastically(讥讽地) _10_ he handed the student a booklet.“yes,i will,” replied the student.he then _11_ a seat and began writing.after two hours, the professor called _12_ the exam papers, and the students filed up and handed them _13_,all _14_ the late student, who continued writing.half an hour later, the last student came up to the professor who was sitting at his desk _15_ for his next class.he _16_ to put his exam paper on the pile of exam booklets already there.“no,you dont.im not going to accept that.its late.”the student looked surprised and angry.“do you know who i am?”“no,_17_ a matter of fact i dont,”replied the professor.“do you know who i am?” the student asked again.“no,and i dont _18_,” replied the professor with an air of superiority.“good,” replied the student, who _19_ lifted the pile of completed exam papers, stuffed his in the _20_,and walked out of the room.1a.soblikecfordnor2a.letbweedcputdwork3a.gentlebangrycstrictdloose4a.somebanyceverydno5a.certainlybespeciallycspeciallydexactly6a.handedbturnedcreceiveddaccepted7a.failbsucceedcpassdstop8a.rushbrushingcto with a tale likes,as a rule,to have it retold in almost the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as formal texts.it is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and,if a parent can produce what,in the actual situation of the time and the child,is an improvement on the printed text,so much the better.a charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or making him sad thinking.to prove the latter, one would have to show a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often sorry for cruelty than those who had not.as to fears, there are,i think, some cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy stories.often, however, this arises from the child having heard the story once.familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.there are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, twoheaded dragons, magic carpets, etc. do not exist;and that, instead of being fond of the strange side in fairy tales, the child should be taught to learn the reality by studying history.i find such people,i must say,so peculiar(奇怪的) that i do not know how to argue with them.if their cases were sound, the world should be full of mad men attempting to fly from new york to philadelphia on a stick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their beloved girlfriend.no fairy story ever declared to be a description of the real world and no clever child has ever believed that it was.1the author considers that a fairy story is more effective when it is _.arepeated without any changebtreated as a jokecmade some changes by the parentsdset in the present2according to the passage, great fear can take place in a child when the story is _.ain a realistic settingbheard for the first timecrepeated too oftend told in a different way3the advantage claimed for repeating fairy stories to young children is that it _.amakes them less fearfulbdevelops their power of memorycmakes them believe there is nothing to be afraid ofdencourages them not to have strange beliefs4the authors mention of a stick and a telephone is meant to suggest that _.afairy stories are still being made upbthere is some misunderstanding about fairy talescpeople try to modernize old fairy storiesdthere is more concern for childrens fears nowadays5one of the reasons why some people are not in favor of fairy tales is that _.athey are full of imaginationbthey just make up the stories which are far from the truthcthey are not interestingdthey make teachers of history difficult to teach1“good,”replied the student, who quickly lifted the pile of completed exam papers, stuffed his in the middle, and walked out of the room.(完形填空最后一段)“好,”那学生回答道,他迅速地拿起那堆已做完了的试卷,把他的塞入中间,然后走出了教室。 (1)after school,he hurried to get home, turned on the tv,and began to watch the football match. (2)there come a group of children, talking and laughing. 2to prove the latter, one would have to show a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often sorry for cruelty than those who had not.(阅读理解第二段)为了证明后者,一个人必须要展示一个读过神话故事的孩子会比那些没读过的孩子更经常同情残酷的操控性试验。(1)to get up early,he set alarm clock. (2)use your head, and youll find the answer. (3)working with her, youll find her easy to get along with. 3.instead of being fond of the strange side in fairy tales, the child should be taught to learn the reality by studying history.(阅读理解第三段)孩子应该被教去通过学习历史了解现实而不是去喜欢神话故事里奇怪的一面。 (1)lets play cards instead of watching tv. (2)we sometimes eat rice instead of potatoes. 2bweed out淘汰。
