Module 3. My First Ride On the Train Reading And Vocabulary Teaching Design:(One period)Teacher: Wang Sheng hong.The text analysis: This text is about the writers(Alice Thompsons) first experience traveling on the train, whose distance is more than 4000 kilometers from Sydney to Alice Springs in Australia. And also tell us what the writer saw and felt on the train. He also told us the history of the reason why the train called Ghan.The students analysis: The students in our school is poor in vocabulary and reading , so the speaking and listening is even poorer. The teacher should help them improve the vocabulary learning and extensive reading skills, and enable the students to understand the main idea of the text. Teaching aims: 1.The teacher uses pictures on the ppt to enable the students to learn Australian animals and the situation of the land in Australia.2. The teacher designs some questions to help Ss to understand the text better. After learning the text ,the Ss could use what they have learned to write and speak their own first travel experience.2. Target language:a. vocabulary and phrases: abandoned, desert, colorful, farm, fields, seaside, soil, diamond, midnight, scenery, shoot, journey, get out of, be short for, refer tob. Sentence patterns: P23We got on in . and we got off in ., right in the middle of Australia. We saw abandoned farms which were. During the day, I sat and looked out of ., and sometimes talked to. 2. Ability goals Enable the Ss to describe the first ride experience in their life.3. Learning ability goals helps the Ss learn how to express the first ride experience in their life.Teaching important points :1. Enable the students to understand the text and remember the sentence patterns.2.Deal with the questions in Activity 4 on P24.3.According to the text, “In 1925,they passed a law which allowed people to shoot the animas if they were a problem. In 1935, the police in a town shot 153camels in one day.” elicit the Ss to know Wild Animals protected Law in China.People cant kill the wild animals in China.Teaching difficult points Enable the Ss to write their own traveling experience.Teaching methods Asking and answering activity, reading and discussing in groups.Teaching aids :multimedia, blackboard .Blackboard Design:1.Language points: When the teacher ask the students to find out the long sentences and the difficult sentences to analysise , the teacher can write the sentences on the Bb. Sometimes it isnt necessary to write the full sentence .E.g. 1).We got on in Sydney and we got off in Alice Springs, right in the middle of Australia,.(the different means of the right.)right, (恰好,正好)。 e.g Im right there at that time.On the right. You have the right to study.(权利)2. )We spent two days and nights on the train.Spend time /money on sth. Spend time /money in doing sth.3. ).and the food was great. great means delicious.2.The points that each group got are written on the blackboard.Teaching procedures & ways Step1. Revision (2minutes)Greetings and revise the vehicles we have learned in introduction.bus ,ferry , helicopter, plane , motorbike ,taxi, train, tram , train., bike ,boat ,ship, car.Step2 lead-in (8minutes)T: During the National Holidays , where have you been? And what kind of vehicles did you take when you went to .? What did you see on the way? S1. I have been to . I went there by car/ train/ plane. I saw many animals and beautiful scenery on the way.T: Why can we go out to travel during the holidays nowadays?S2: Because peoples life have been improved.T: Have you ever been abroad? Ss: No, we havent.T: Do you want to travel abroad?Ss: Yes, we do.Now I m going to take you to a beautiful country -Australia.Show the pictures and the map about Australia on the screen. Ask the Ss to think two minutes in groups and say one or two sentences about Australia. Then ask them some questions about Australia. T: Boys and girls now please look at the three pictures and say something about Australia.S1: Australia lies in the South Pacific Ocean.S2: The flag shows the UK flag and a large star with seven points. The other stars on the flag represent the Southern Cross.S3: Australia is the only country in the world that covers an entire continent.S4: The most famous animal is the Kangaroo. It has become the symbol of Australia. And the other one is koala bear.S5: Australia has more sheep than people, so it is a country built on the backs of sheep.T: Quite right. Now Id like you to answer the following questions on the screen. After answering these questions, youll learn more about Australia.Show the following questions on the screen:1. How many people live in Australia?2. Whats the capital city of Australia?3. Where do you think most of the people live, in the central part of the country or on the coast?4. What do you think the central part of the country is like?5. What Australian animals do you know about?referring answers:1. About 24 million. Most of Australians live in the six major cities around the coast.2. The capital city of Australia is Canberra.3. Because two thirds of the country is dry and desert, most of the people live on the coast.4. I think there are many farms in the central part of the country, where farmers raise sheep and cattle.5. In Australia, the most famous animals are kangaroos and koala bears. There are also many varieties of parrots, and over 140 different types of snakes. T: Before we read the text, lets look at the words in Activity 2 on P22. Match some of the words in the box with the 6 definitions. Check the answers after the Ss finish it.( Let the Ss in groups to answer them, and also give out the points to the Ss. Step3 Skimming Reading(3minutes)T: Look at the picture(ppt) on the screen, where is the train heading? And where does the story take place? Now read the passage quickly and get the main idea about it.A few minutes later.T: Whats the passage about?S1: Its about Alices traveling to the central part of Australia. It was her first ride on a long-distance train. She described her journey and the scenery she saw on the way.T: You are quite right. Now please read the text again and find the answers to the questions in Activity 4 on P24. and then divide the text into parts. After you read it, Do the following question in groups.How many parts can we divide the passage into? What is each about?(3points)Part one Para.1 Alices journey on the train.Part Two (Para.2-3) Alices experience and feeling.Part Three (Para4-6) the history of the transportation in Australia.Step 4 Scanning(查读)2minutesRead the passage and tell whether the following sentences true or false.look at sentences on the screen.If it is false, please correct it according to the text. 1.
