period 5 do you know when basketball was invented?本节与上节相关性分析:经过前三节课的学习,学生掌握了本单元的话题知识,知道如何去谈论一些现有发明的的历史,形成了话题综合能力, 为本节课的话题阅读活动、学习阅读技巧打下了基础。本节课以学生喜欢并熟悉的“篮球的发明”为话题入手,引导学生将所读的阅读材料转换成色彩丰富的图片和关键词结合的信息,轻松地用mind-mapping的阅读技巧去理解并回忆阅读材料的信息点,有效地提升学生运用本单元话题及语言知识的能力,丰富他们的阅读知识和阅读技巧,从而提高他们的阅读能力。最后通过对整节课的回顾,让学生能够通过小组活动通过实践自己总结出阅读技巧。课型:reading 时间:45 minutes教材内容:reading on page 74 and page 75教学要求:1. language goals:talk about when basketball was invented;learn and master the learning strategies of reading.2. ability goals:enable the students to learn and use the three learning strategies in reading and writing; enable the students to form a correct attitude to read and extend their reading and writing.3. emotion & attitude goals:provide the students the chances and encourage them to think and talk in reading by competitions;get students to realize we should learn the cultures of different sports and of different countries, and do exercises to keep healthy.4. strategies and skill goalsto cultivate learners autonomous learning;to cultivate learners cooperative learning in competition;to cultivate learners ability of reading and writing.教学方法: task-based teaching method and mind-mapping教学手段: a computer, blackboard, ppt ,the listening materials and a video.teaching procedures (教学步骤)teaching procedures:teachingstepsteachingaimsteachers activitiesstudents activitiesteaching aidspart 1(13 minutes)step 1create the active teaching environment for studentslead the students to watch a set of video about michael jordan. let students talk about basketball.students talk about michael jordan and basketball. this activity can arouse their interest in this lesson.lead in by watching a set of video. step 2enable students to learn strategy 1 title guessing for pre-reading and improve their cooperation by competitions lead students to guess the title by asking “which word do you think is the most important in the title?”students answers are varied. and they get “basketball and invented”.slide 3: title guessing of key words. talk about ball games. get students to name the kinds of ball games they know in english by competition 1. (read after: rugby, bowling, hockey, billiards, polo,)students take part in the competition. this activity can arouse students enthusiasm, enlarge students vocabulary and develop their knowledge. slide 4: name the ball games by brainstorming and competition. get students to talk about nba by asking questions and let them name the nba teams and players they know by having competition 2. students answer can lead to america and nba teams and their players. this activity can not only get students know something about nba, but also develop their social knowledge.slide 5&6: comment on their good job.ask students: do you want to know how popular it is in china? let students skim the passage to find out the answers.ask 2 questions:1. where do we play basketball?2. what do we play for?skim the passage and find the answers to the questions.ask the students, “where you can find the answer to question 2?”, then read paragraph 1 and find key words together with students by diagram 1.students can learn what to do next in the rest of the lesson.(diagram 1)offer diagram 2 for students to read paragraph 2.students answer with the help of teachers petition(diagram 2)guess the key word of “invented”. get students to review the knowledge we have learnt about it.students review “when/where/how was it invented? & who was it invented by?”review the target languagelead students to learn about 5 ws and 1 h.students learn the skills of finding the people, the timethe reason while skimming the reading text.5ws and 1 h ask students to answer questions while students skimming the text.students apply strategy 2 in reading the text on page 74. ask and answer.part 2(7 minutes)step 1enable students to learn strategy 2 while reading. it cultivates students ability for skimming and intensive reading.ask them : where can you find the answers? paragragh 3 and 4.step 2talk about naismith and his invention.students get the information by the words and picture petition(diagram 3)part 3(16 minutes)enable students to learn strategy 3 to get key words and main idea by forming mind-map (pictures and tables) in their mind to comprehend the difficult text while doing intensive reading. also they cooperate in the competition.talk about the rules and equipments of the game by filling in the blanks. students can easily get the answer because of having learned them in petition(diagram 4)step 2get students to find the nouns and verbs then use the verbs to connect the nouns together.this activity can cultivate students ability to use verbs and nouns in a petition(diagram 5)step 3use olympic 5-rings to lead to the history about basketball.students try to get the key petition(diagram 6)step 4talk about the development of basketball by filling the blanks.students can fill in the words with the words petition(diagram 7)conclusionmake a conclusion:find out some learning strategies by themselves.let students work in groups of 4 and discuss about the leaning strategies they know. learning strategies:1. titleguessing.2. 5ws and 1h3.key words and main idea.4.mind-mappingstep 5lead students to do the exercises in 3a on page 75.students can do the exercises easily after learning the 3 strategies in skimming and intensive reading.step 6get students to learn history of football using the 4 strategiesstudents can know more out of the text book. and they can use what they learn to any kind of ball games in real life.
