山东省曲阜市鲁城街道办事处孔子中学2015届高三英语 下学期晚测试题(2) ait was thanksgiving morning. i was busy preparing the traditional thanksgiving turkey when the doorbell rang. i opened the front door and saw two small children in rags huddling together on the top step.“any old papers, lady?” asked one of them.i was busy. i wanted to say “no” until i looked down at their feet. they were wearing thin little sandals, wet with heavy snow.“come in and ill make you a cup of hot cocoa.”they walked over and sat down at the table. their wet sandals left marks upon the floor. i served them cocoa and bread to fight against the cold outside. then i went back to the kitchen and started cooking.the silence in the front room struck me. i looked in. the girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. the boy asked in a flat voice, “lady, are you rich?”“am i rich? pity, no!”i looked at my wornout slipcovers(椅套). the girl put her cup back in its saucer (碟) carefully and said, “your cups match your saucers.” they left after that, holding their papers against the wind. they had reminded me that i had so much for which to be grateful.plain blue china cups and saucers were only worth five pence. but they matched.i tasted the potatoes and stirred the meat soup. potatoes and brown meat soup, a roof over our heads, my man with a regular job, these matched, too.i moved the chairs back from the fire and cleaned the living room. the muddy marks of little sandals were still wet upon my floor. let them be for a while, i thought, just in case i should begin to forget how rich i am. 1which of the following would be the best title for the text?alady, are you rich? ba story of thanksgiving daycdont forget how rich you are ddoes cups and saucers match well?2the writer let the two children come in and served them well because_.ashe wanted to sell old papers to thembshe wanted to invite them to her thanksgiving partycshe showed great pity and care on themdshe had the same experience as them in the past3which of the following statements is not true according to the passage?athe girl thought the writer was rich just because she wanted to make the writer happy.bthe writer had thought she wasnt rich because her supplies were not expensive.cif cups and saucers match well, they are a best pair even though cheap.dafter hearing what they said, the writer seemed to understand what a rich life was.4the writer left the muddy marks of little sandals on the floor for a while to_.ashow that she was a kindhearted ladybremind her that she shouldnt forget how rich she wascleave room for readers to think about what being rich isdprove that she had understood what meant being rich5it can be inferred from the text that whether you are rich depends on_.ahow much money you have made bwhat attitude you have had towards lifecthe way you help others dyour social relationship b“tearem apart!” “kill the fool!” “murder the referee (裁判)!” these are common remarks one may hear at various sporting events. at the time they are made, they may seem innocent enough. but lets not kid ourselves. they have been known to influence behavior in such a way as to lead to real bloodshed. volumes have been written about the way words affect us. it has been shown that words having certain connotations (含义) may cause us to react in ways quite foreign to what we consider to be our usual humanistic behavior. i see the term “opponent” as one of those words. perhaps the time has come to delete it from sports terms. the dictionary meaning of the term “opponent” is “adversary” “enemy”; “one who opposes your interests.” thus, when a player meets an opponent, he or she may tend to treat that opponent as an enemy. at such times, winning may dominate ones intellect, and every action, no matter how gross, may be considered justifiable. i recall an incident in a handball game when a referee refused a players request for a time out for a glove change because he did not consider them wet enough. the player proceeded to rub his gloves across his wet t-shirt and then exclaimed. “are they wet enough now?” in the heat of battle, players have been observed to throw themselves across the court without considering the consequences that such a move might have on anyone in their way. i have also witnessed a player reacting to his opponents international and illegal blocking by deliberately hitting him with the ball as hard as he could during the course of play. off the court, they are good friends. does that make any sense? it certainly gives proof of a court attitude which departs from normal behavior. therefore, i believe it is time we elevated (提升) the game to the level where it belongs there by setting an example to the rest of the sporting world. replacing the term “opponent” with “associate” could be an ideal way to start. the dictionary meaning of the term “associate” is “colleague”; “friend”; “companion.” reflect a moment! you may soon see and possibly feel the difference in your reaction to the term “associate” rather than “opponent.” 6. which of the following statements best expresses the authors view? a. aggressive behavior in sports can have serious consequences. b. the words people use can influence their behavior. c. unpleasant words in sports are often used by foreign athletes. d. unfair judgments by referees will lead to violence on the sports field. 7. harsh words are spoken during games because the players _. a. are too eager to win b. are usually short-tempered and easily offended c. cannot afford to be polite in fierce competition d. treat their rivals as enemies 8. what did the handball player do when he was not allowed a time out to change his gloves? a. he refused to continue the game. b. he angrily hit the referee with a ball. c. he claimed that the referee was unfair. d. he wet his gloves by rubbing them across his t-shirt. 9. according to the passage, players, in a game, may _. a. deliberately throw the ball at anyone illegally blocking their way b. keep on screaming and shouting throughout the game c. lie down on the ground as an act of protest d. kick the ball across the court with force 10. the author hopes to have the current situation in sports improved by _. a. calling on players to use clean language on the court b. raising the referees sense of responsibility c. changing the attitude of players on the sports field d. regulating the relationship between players and refereescwhy dont so many americans accept the theory of evolution? a 2001 gallup pollfound that 45 percent of americans agree with the statement “god created the human being pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years orso ”, while 37 percent preferred a mixed belief that “human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but god guided this process”, and only 12percent accepted the standard scientific theory that “human being have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but god had no part in this process”.there are at least four reasons to make people resistant to accepting evolution.1.the warfare model of science and religion. the belief that there is a war between science and religion where one is right and the other is wrong, and that one must choose one over the other.2.the belief that evolution is a threat to specific religious tenets(信条). many people attempt to use science to prove certain religious tenets, but when they do not appear to fit, the science is rejected.3.misunderstanding of evolutionary theory. a significant problem is that most people know so little about the theory. in the 2001 gallup poll, for example, a quarter of the people surveyed said they didnt know enough to say whether they accepted evolution or not, and only 34 percent considered themselves to be “very informed ” about the theory.4.the fear that evolution degrades our humanity. darwin revealed us to be “mere animals”,subject to the same natural laws and historical forces as all other animals.believers should embrace science, especially evolutionary theory, for what it has done to uncover the magnificence of the divinity(神学) in a depth never dreamed by our ancient ancestors. we have learned a lot in 4,000 years, and that knowledge should never be denied. instead, science should be welcomed by all who cherish human understanding and wisdom.11. according to the poll, most people in america believe_.a. human beings have developed from less advanced forms of lifeb. god contributed to the present form of human beingsc. god created human beings in the present formd. god guided the process of human beings development12. which of the following is not the reason why people dont accept evolution?a. there is always a war between evolution and religion.b. some religious tenets cant be proved by science.c. many people dont know enough about evolution.d. they fear that we will become “mere animals”.13. what can we learn form the passage about evolutionary theory?a. whether evolutionary theory is science is a question.b. it has explained the brilliance of the divinity better than before.c. it must make religion disappear and they cant exist at the same time.d. darwin made little contribution to the theory.14. what is the writers view on the evolutionary theory?a. it is not science and should be resisted. b. it is science but should be resisted.c. it is not science but should be accepted. d. it is science and should be accepted.15. the author wrote the passage to_.a. tell the readers that many americans refuse evolution theory.b. tell the readers why so many americans refuse evolution theory.c. advise the readers to value science, including evolution theory.d. tell the difference between science and religion.信息匹配 (10分)下面是一篇应用文及其应用场合的信息,请阅读下列应用文和相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。首先,请阅读下列的应用文:a. painters must have at least 3 years of painting experience. commercial and new construction work. $10 /
