temperature and the amount of water in the atmosphere change. we can see and feel water coming from the atmosphere when we have rain. but the water must somehow get back to the atmosphere. meteorologists call this the water cycle. there are many stages in the water cycle. rain falls when water vapour in clouds condenses(凝结). drops of water form and fall to the ground. the water soaks into the ground and feeds streams and rivers. a lot of rain falls into the sea. the heat of the sun evaporates some of the water in the ground and in the rivers, lakes, and the sea. it changes the liquid water into water vapour. the vapour rises onto the air. water vapour is normally invisible. on a very damp or humid day, however, you can sometimes see water vapour rising from a puddle(水坑) or pond in a mist(薄雾) above the water. water vapour also gets into the air from living things. trees and other plants take in water through their roots and give off water vapour from their leaves. people and land animals drink water and breathe out water vapour. in all these ways the water returns to the air. there it gathers to form clouds and condenses to form rain. the rain falls to earth, and the cycle starts again. it continues even if snow or hail(冰雹) fall instead because both eventually melt to form water. the amount of water vapour in the air depends on the temperature. the air is more moist(潮湿) in the tropics(热带) than in the cold polar regions.60. what is the main idea of the passage?a. water, vapour, rain. b. water vapour. c. how rain forms. d. water cycle.61. how many ways of the water vapour in the air in cold polar region than in the tropics c. it gets more rain in the tropics than in cold polar regions because there is less vapour d. the amount of water vapour in the air depends on how often it rains cchicago (reuters) - smoking not only can wrinkle(起皱纹) the face and turn it yellow - it can do the same to the whole body, researchers reported on monday.the study, published in the archives of dermatology, shows that smoking affects the skin all over the body - even skin protected from the sun.we examined non-facial skin that was protected from the sun, and found that the total number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day and the total years a person has smoked were linked with the amount of skin damage a person experienced, dr. yolanda helfrich of the university of michigan, who led the study, said in a statement. in participants older than 65 years, smokers had significantly more fine wrinkling than nonsmokers. similar findings were seen in participants aged 45 to 65 years, helfrichs team added in their report.the researchers tested 82 people, smokers and nonsmokers, taking pictures of the inner right arms. they ranged in age from 22 to 91 and half were smokers independent judges decided how wrinkled each persons skin was.when skin is exposed to sunlight, notably the face, it becomes coarse, wrinkled and discolored with a pale yellow tint, helfrichs team wrote.several previous studies have found that cigarette smoking contributes to premature(过早的)skin aging as measured by facial wrinkles, the study said, but little has been done to measure the aging of skin not exposed to light.the report did not discuss the mechanism involved but previous research has found that cigarette smoke, among other things, causes blood vessels(血管)beneath the skin to constrict(紧缩), reducing blood supply to the skin.smoking can also damage the connective tissue that supports both the skin and the internal organs.64. the best title for this passage would be_.a. the danger of smoking b. a survey of smokersc. smoking causes skin aging d. quit smoking for health65. it can be inferred from the study _.a. smoking wont make skin protected from the sun ageb. smoking will do damage to skin rather than other organsc. smokers over 65 usually wont worry about their skind. the age of smokers is not connected with the result of the test 66. from the passage smoking results in skin aging mainly because_.a. it can make you feel tiredb. it will lower blood supply to skin.c. it can make skin come offd. it can make blood run faster67. the main purpose of the passage is to _.a. inform people about the result of the studyb. advise people to how to protect skin c. warn people not to smoke again. d. introduce a new way of avoid skin agingdwith many college graduates struggling to find jobs, one of the most important for you to understand is that youre in school all your life. in fact, your real education is just beginning.id like to pass on a few lessons that you didnt necessarily get in school. if youve been out of school for a few years or a lot of years, they could still teach you something.develop relationships and keep networking. if i had to name a single characteristic shared by all the truly successful people ive met, id say it is the ability to create and nurture (培育) networks of contacts. start strengthening your relationships now, so that theyll be in place when you really need them later. inthe classroom it was mostly about individual performance. success in real life requires relationships. set goals. ask any winner what the key to his or her success was, and youll hear four consistent messages: vision, determination, persistence, and setting goals. if you dont set goals and determine where youre going, how will you know when you get there? goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning; they are an incentive (激励)to keep you going all day.sense of humor. im a firm believer in using humor, though not necessarily jokes. a good sense of humor helps one understand the unconventional( 非传统的 ), tolerate the unpleasant, and overcome the unexpected. there are plenty of times to be serious, but i believe that keeping things light and comfortable encourages better teamwork.volunteer. it might be hard to do a lot of volunteer work at first, but people who help others on a regular basis have a healthier outlook on life.68. by saying “your real education is just beginning”, the author wants to .a. explain why its difficult for college graduates to find jobsb. show the importance of social experience, besides schooling, in educationc. advise students to value their time at school, and to study hardd. advise college graduates to face bravely the problems they may encounter(遭遇)69. you should start to strengthen your relationships now because .a. it will take you time to develop them before you need themb. you may have gotten used to being judged as an individual, and need to changec. successful people have no time to develop relationships with youd. you need to spend a lot of time learning the importance of good relationships70. the author believes that being humorous means that you .a. should prepare jokes to be used in various situationsb. can deal with difficult situations in an easy and comfortable wayc. can show your difference from others and be able to succeedd. should smile all the time and avoid being serious on any occasion71. the target readers of this passage are probably .a. educational expertsb. people who want to change jobsc. college graduates who have just left schoold. high school students who are still at school ei remember my math teacher mr. young very well. he stood out because the kids made fun of him. he was missing one of his fingers, and always pointed at students with his middle finger.i was not very good at english and math. no matter how hard i tried, i just could not figure out why i did not understand what all the other kids found so easy to learn.one day, i was told that if i got one more e on my report card, i would be taken to the “big person for kids”i tried really hard for weeks. i just couldnt understand how to make different parts of members into whole things.the day before report cards were to come out, i knew that mr. young would give me an e, just like he always did.i went to mr young and told him that the orphanage (孤儿院) was going to send me to the big person if i got another e on my report card. he told me there was nothing he could do; it would be unfair to the other kids if he gave me a better grade than i had actually earned.i smiled at him and said, mr. young, do you know how the kids make fun of you because youre missing your finger? he
