Last but not least, I am greatly indebted to my family for their support encouragement and understanding they have given me for these years.摘要为探究家庭因素对小学生英语学习的影响,本文以信阳市3 所小学45名小学生和30名小学生的家长为研究对象,对其进行了一次问卷调查,主要调查了父母的经济情况、父母的文化程度、父母对孩子英语学习的态度、父母对孩子的期望值、父母对学校教育的态度及家庭学习氛围对小学生英语学习的影响。通过调查发现,家庭因素中父母对学校教育的态度对英语学习的态度、父母对孩子的期望、家庭学习氛围对小学生英语学习的影响较大。通过对研究中发现的问题的分析,本文最后从父母、学校两个方面提出了改进的建议。一方面,在学校和教师的指导下家长树立正确的科学的家庭教育观念,为学生营造一个良好的家庭环境;另一方面,教师应加强与学生家长的交流沟通,给予孩子多一份关注和关怀,让孩子充分感受到老师和家长的爱护,走出不良家庭因素的影响,重塑自信,从而进一步的促进孩子英语学习。【关键词】家庭因素;小学生;英语学习;影响AbstractThis thesis makes a study of family factors influence on pupils English learning. Many domestic and foreign scholars have done some researches on the effect of family factors on students English learning,such as Burstall(1975),Kirmayer(1998),Ma(1985),Wei(2000).In the investigation,Burstall(1975) has found thatThe discretion of pupils in French learning are closely linked with their parents social and economic status.”Ma(1985) have demonstrated “the parents culture level and occupational status have influenced on learners learning.He put forward the students with high academic achievement and their parents cultural level and professional status is high.” Above all,most researchers have discussed family factors from the teachers education behavior,the way to educate children,parentsoccupation and the objects of these studies are mainly junior high school students.However, little research has made valuable contributions to the family factors influence on the pupils English learning.Base on the writers investigation of Xinyang three primary school students and the pupils parents,this paper is to explore the parentseconomic situation,parents cultural degree,attitude towards English learning,attitude towards the school education and the expectation degree for children impact on pupils English learning. Chapter One Literature Review With the development of world economy globalization and deepening of international exchanges and cooperation,the value of English which worked as the international communication language is increasingly prominent.Individually,for some industries in China,job seekers who have the high English level in applying would possess obvious advantages.Therefor,researches on family factors are also increasingly conspicuously.This chapter divides two parts to demonstrate the domestic and foreign researches dynamic on the effect of family factors on students English learning.1.1 Foreign Researches Dynamic In the1890s,F.Galton have conducted investigation on the effects of parents occupation for learners,and it has led scholars began the research on family factors. Between 60 to 70s of the 20th century,scholars have found that familys social and economic status variables have a great influence on learners foreign language learning.In the investigation and study,Burstall(1975) has expounded thatThe discretion of the pupils in French learning are closely linked with their parents social and economic status.” After the 1980s,scholars have turned to the family relationship,the number of family members and parents attitudes towards school education.Kirmayer,etc(1998) has pointed out“Family factors that affect students learning should include:family relationship,the time and the number of parents and children spending together in activity,the expectation of parents for children,etc.In the meantime,Family is the main place to formation and development of learners personality.”1.2 Domestic Researches Dynamic The domestic researches on family factors began in the 1970s.After that,the objects of these studies are mostly junior high school students and college students.Until 2001 when the ministry of education issued a document,domestic research of primary school students English learning is further developed.Thus,writer separates two periods to analysis domestic researches.(1) During the 1970s to the 2001,domestic scholars to study on family factors mainly from parents culture level and self-cultivation,career,parents expectation for children.e.g:1. From parents culture level and career to research,such as Ma(1985),Wei(2000).In the study,Mas(1985) demonstrates the parents culture level and professional status have influences on students learning.Besides,he puts forward the students with high academic achievement,their parents also have high culture level and professional status. 2. From parents expectation for their children,such as Zhao(2001), Sun(etc,2001).Zhao(2001) finds that the higher parents expectation of their children, the greater the incentive children are,the results lead to improve the students academic performance.(二)After 2001 when the ministry of education issued a document,domestic researches on family factors turn to parents way to educate children,family learning environment,family structure and relationships between family members,etc., the subjective aspects.e.g:1.From parents way to educate children,such as Xie(etc.,2004),Li(2005).Li proves that parents personality characteristics and their ways to educate children are closely related with the primary students academic records.Besides,parents whose education is full of passion and understanding of their children are more likely to help students form a good personality,thus improve the grades.2.From the family learning environment,such as Tu and Ge (2005),Li(2012).Li expounds that environmental factors in English learning is inseparable,especially the family learning atmosphere ,parents attitude towards their work are the important factors that affect students learning achievement and psychological development.3.From the family structure and the relationships between family members,such as Wang(2007),Xue and Li(2008).Xue and Lis research suggests that the average grades of the students in single-parent families obviously less than two-parent families.Chapter Two The Influence on English Learning of Primary School Students2.1 Terms DefinedThe learning environment,in a broad sense refers to the external conditions which provide students to learn.In a narrow sense,learning environment is divided into school environment,family learning environment and social environment.Family learning environment refers to varieties of conditions which parents supplies students,including material conditions and mental conditions.Material conditions are also called physical hardware,specifically refers to facilities which parents provide for students to study at home.The meaning of mental conditions are wide,is mainly refers to the culture construction of spiritual civilization and it also named spiritual software.2.2 The Effect of Primary School Students English Learning2.2.1Characteristics of the Primary School Students English Learning1.Learning content is simple and intuitive.Pupils cognitive characteristics are from the concrete to the abstract,and from low level to high level to develop.Therefore,the knowledge points of pupils English learning are intuitive,perceptual,fragmentary.Besides,the demands for pupils are to know some common words and to use some simple basic sentence pattern to express and communicate.Based on these factors,there is no doubt that English learning cards or machine which provided by parents would be conducive to students English learning.2.Poor self-consciousness and initiative to study.Pupils learning mainly depends on the arrangement of teacher in the school, and the teacher is responsible for all the things.Besides,at home,students could complete the study tasks only urged by their parents.Accordingly,pupils learning has visible dependence and passivity,lacking of clear goals and self-control.Without the arrangement of the teachers and parents supervision,many students tend to be lost,not consciously learning.2.2.2 Family Factors on Primary School Students English learning1.The effect of parents expectation for children.In the study,Sun and Sun(2007)have found that the students grades have conspicuous related to parents expectations.2.The effect of family structure and the relationship between family members.Wang(2007)has demonstrated thatFamily is the first place for students to accept socialization.In addition, the relationship between family members and the parents way to educate learners have an influence on students learning.Students grade is not easy to improve and there would be more likely to fall into difficulties in study who in a single-parent family,a bad relationship between family members or parents strict requirements.There are many aspects that affect pupils English learning,this paper from the parentseconomic situation,parents cultural degree,attitude towards English learning,attitude towards the school education and the expectation degree for children to study the effect of family factors on pupils English learning basing on learning content and the dependence and passivity of pupils.Chapter Three Research Design and Analysis of the Research Results3.1 Research Subjects, Research Method and Questionnaire In January ,2014, the writer carried on the questionnaires research of three primary schools in Xinyang city.The subjects of this research consist of two groups, one is 45 pupils, and the other is 30 pupils parents.Besides,the subjects were chosen randomly.In this study, the author adopt scientific methods so as to the quantitative and qualitative.Firstly,writer obtained the observations basing on the results of the questionnaire. Secondly, writer conducted the questionnaire and then collected and analyzed the data.The questionnaires are designed for the effect of family factors on the pupils English learning.In addition,the questionnaires are designed
