Over these years the university has expanded and now there are more than 30,000 students and 3,000 teachers. Now the prex of teaching wants to develop the new system of teaching management adapting the expansion of the university. He wants to use SQL Server Software replacing FoxPro. In order to save development costs, they decided to use SQL SERVER 2005 which is purchased several years ago. He suggests that this system will be developed by college of computer. You are the expert of SQL Server 2005, so you should complete the database designing.The system of teaching management has three main functions. The one sub-system is enrollment management that fulfills the management of student, class, department and dorm and so on. The second sub-system is course management that fulfills the management of course, teacher, student, classroom and textbook. The third sub-system is teacher management that fulfills the management of teacher, college, department and project and so on. Your job is to planning and design the database of teaching management. At first you should adopt the software engineering methods. Then you will be asked to illustrate the full process of the database design. You should draw entity-relationship diagrams, and then change the ER model to relational schema sets. You should convert the conceptual model to the logical model by using the tool of Power-Designer. According to the design you will be asked to create the database, table and constraint using SQL Server 2005. And then you will be asked to develop a range of sample input and output screens e.g. forms, reports, dropdown lists and checkboxes to test simply. At last in order to demonstrate the database design , you should provide a supporting documentation to the design. TASKS:Assignment Tasks:Criteria:You should prepare a report that covers the following tasks:Task one:It is about the basic theory of database design. You should adopt ER model designing the database conceptual model. At first you should design local ER model including defining the Range of local structure, defining the entities and relation, assigning the properties. Then you should design overall ER model including determining the type of public entities, merging local ER model, eliminating the conflicts. At last you should optimize the overall model including merging entity types, eliminating the redundant attributes and redundant relation.Task two:It is about the conversion ER diagram into a relational schema. You should master the algorithms of conversion. You can get the relational model sets by the algorithms. Also you must deeply consider the constraints (primary key, foreign key). Then you should normalize the relational model. At last you should complete the mode evaluation and model correction. You should utilize the tools of Power-Designer.Part three: It is about the practice of the database design. According the design you will be asked to create the database, table and constraints in SQL Server 2005. Then You will be asked to develop a range of sample input and output screens e.g. tables, forms and reports, dropdown lists, checkboxes for testing.Part four:In order to demonstrate the database design to a third party, you should provide a supporting documentation to complement the design. It should include the full procedure of the design and comment on the software you used. In database design process it is required to use the concept of software engineering. So you should demonstrate the seven phase in lifecycle of database system. (M1)2. It is very important defining the range of local structure in designing the database conceptual model. The one is depending on the current user in system and the other is depending on the services that the user proposes. You should choose one of them. (M2)3. It is very important defining the range of local structure in designing the database conceptual model. You should draw ER or EER diagram to illustrate your logical design. In logic designing of relational database, you should apply the basic theory of design e.g. 1NF, 2NF and 3NF. So in your design the ER or EER diagram is correct. And the constraints in table is appropriate e.g. primary key, foreign key. To prove your choice you should demonstrate your approach. (M3)4. To consolidate your design, provide your evidence and personal opinion why these design are necessary and likely to work out. Academic theories from whatever you have learned may be applied to strengthen your arguments. Also you can use diagrams in Power-design and some samples input and output screens e.g. tables, forms and reports, dropdown lists, checkboxes to strengthen your arguments. (D1)5. After completion of ER diagram designing, you should independently covert it to relational schema, and give your justification to explain; you should arrange for various links in reasonable and complete the tasks within the specified time. Also you should practice in SQL Server 2005 by list some important SQL sentences in your design document. (D2)6. Provide a conclusion that justifies and evaluates your own tasks, and demonstrate your creative and unique thinking with eventual solution and suggestion as guidance for the universitys long-run development and to ensure that solution can improve the efficiency in the future.
