Knowledge aims:1) Master the spelling and meaning of new words:nowadays, search, among, crayon, shame, regard, count, century, according to, especially, childhood, consider, hold 2) Master useful expressions about hometown feelings: search for, according to, regard as, across from, be true of, opposite to, consider doing sth. , a symbol of, in ones opinion2. Ability aims:1) To enhance Skimming abilities in English reading.2) To improve and Scanning abilities in English reading. 3) To freely talk about hometown feelings and hometown changes.3. Emotional aims:1) To express deep feelings towards hometown 2) To improve the cooperative spirit through Group competition.IITeaching keys and difficulties1. Key points: 1) New words: nowadays, search, among, crayon, shame, regard, count, century, according to, especially, childhood, consider, hold 2) Key expressions: search for, according to, regard as, across from, be true of, opposite to, consider doing sth. , a symbol of, in ones opinion2. Difficult points:1) Students might have difficulties in grasping the main idea of each paragraph.2) Its not easy for students to guess the meaning of some new words on the context.III. Teaching aids:Computer projector, PPT, blackboard, , chalks, tape recorder. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Warming up ( 4 mins ) Greeting and lead-in :T: Good morning, boys and girls, nice to see you ! Who s on duty today?Now I would like to ask you a question: Do you like your hometown?But why do millions of people leave their hometowns? S: “ to make more money, to work , to travel, to study.”(students answer freely)T: “ Now lets enjoy a video clip and find out the answer!( Video appreciation ) T: So How do you feel after watching the video? Why do these people leave their hometowns ?Teacher divides the whole class into four groups. (Group competition)And then invites 3 students to share answers.Teacher summarize: No matter how far away from hometown, everyone will have hometown feelings. What makes you have hometown feelings?And finally introduce Zhongwei, the main character in the reading.Step 2 Fast reading ( 8 mins) Group competitionu Activity one: 1. Read the whole passage quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph.2. Review some words and expressions before reading.3.
