Step 2 Understanding (10 mins) Real World Listening Focus “Washington and the Cherry Tree” is a well-known legend in the United States. The story advocates the importance of being honest. Culture Notes Benjamin Franklins Thirteen Virtues Benjamin Franklin (1706 -1790) was an inventor, scientist, a printer, political statesman, diplomat, an exemplary self-made man, a revolutionary hero, and of course, a writer. His achievements in all these roles were remarkable and may even be considered revolutionary. 1.Temperance. Eat not to dullness. Drink not to elevation. 2.Silence. Speak not but that may benefit others or yourself. Avoid trifling conversation. 3.Order. Let all your things have their places. Let each part of your business have its time. 4.Resolution.
