湖北武汉市2016高考英语阅读理解二轮基础训练(36)阅读理解词义猜测题、观点态度题。 (2015年宁夏银川实险中学月考) a rainforest is an area covered by tall trees with the total high rainfall spreading quite equally through the year and the temperature rarely dipping below 16c. rainforests have a great effect on the world environment because they can take in heat from the sun and adjust the climate. without the forest cover, these areas would reflect more heat into the atmosphere, warming the rest of the world. losing the rainforests may also influence wind and rainfall patterns, potentially causing certain natural disasters all over the world.in the past hundred years, humans have begun destroying rainforests in search of three major resources(资源); land for crops, wood for paper and other products, land for raising farm animals, this action affects the environment as a whole. for example, a lot of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)in the air comes from burning the rainforests. people obviously have a need for the resources we gain from cutting trees but we will suffer much more than we will benefit.there are two main reasons for this. firstly, when people cut down trees, generally they can only use the land for a year or two. secondly, cutting large sections of rainforests may provide a good supply of wood right now, but in the long run it actually reduces the worlds wood supply.rainforests are often called the worlds drug store. more than 25% of the medicines we use today come from plants in rainforests. however , fewer than 1% of rainforest plants have been examined for their medical value . it is extremely likely that our best chance to cure diseases lies somewhere in the worlds shrinking rainforests.1. rainforests can help to adjust the climate because they .a. reflect more heat into the atmosphereb. reduce the effect of heat from the sun on the earthc. bring about high rainfall throughout the worldd. rarely cause the temperature to drop lower than 16c2. what does the word “this” underlined in the third paragraph refer to?a. humans have begun destroying rainforests.b. people have a strong desire for resources.c. we will lose much more than we can gain.d. much carbon dioxide comes from burning rainforests3. it can be inferred from the text that .a. we can get enough resources without rainforestsb. we will grow fewer kinds of crops in the gained landc. the level of annual rainfall affects wind patternsd. there is great medicine potential in rainforests4. what might be the best title for the text?a. rainforests and the environmentb. how to save rainforestsc. how to protect natured. rainforests and medical development语篇解读 热带雨林对环境有很大的影响,因为它们能够调节气候,本文重点介绍了失去热带雨林的危害。1. b 细节理解题。根据because they can take in heat from the sun and adjust the climate 可知,热带雨林能调 节气候是因为他们吸收了来自太阳的热量。2. c 词议猜测题。根据people come up with the unexpected conclusion that the african elephant is divided into two distinct(不同的) species.the discovery was made by researchers at york and harvard universities when they were examining the genetic relationship between the ancient woolly mammoth and mastodon to modern elephantsthe asian elephant, african forest elephant, and african savanna elephant.once they obtained dna sequences (序列)from two fossils (化石), mammoths and mastodons, the team compared them with dna from modern elephants. they found to their amazement that modern forest and savanna elephants are as distinct from each other as asian elephants and mammoths.the scientists used detailed genetic analysis to prove that the african savanna elephant and the african forest elephant have been distinct species for several million years. the divergence of the two species took place around the time of the divergence of asian elephants and woolly mammoths. this result amazed all the scientists.there has long been debate in the scientific community that the two might be separate species, but this is the most convincing scientific evidence so far that they are indeed different species.previously, many naturalists believed that african savanna elephants and african forest elephants were two populations of the same species, despite the elephants significant size differences. the savanna elephant has an average shoulder height of 3.5 metres while the forest elephant has an average shoulder height of 2.5 metres. the savanna elephant weighs between six and seven tons, roughly double the weight of the forest elephant. but the fact that they look so different does not necessarily mean they are different species. however the proof lay in the analysis of the dna.alfred roca, assistant professor in the department of animal sciences at the university of illinois, said, “we now have to treat the forest and savanna elephants as two different units for conservation purposes. since 1950, all african elephants have been conserved as one species. now that we know the forest and savanna elephants are two very distinctive animals, the forest elephant should become a bigger priority (优先) for conservation purposes.”本文讲述了一项新的科学发现:通过对非洲森林大象和非洲草原大象dna的鉴定,科学家们得出结论:它们是两种不同的物种。我们要保护这些珍稀动物。1one of the fossils studied by the researchers is that of _athe asian elephant bthe forest elephant cthe mother in the hospital bed, happy but un-aware of the small, sleeping baby in the background.i stayed with my grandparents for the weekend of my brothers birth, excited about my new brother but not yet aware of what having a little brother would mean. i didnt truly realize what was going on until we were in the hospital room at duke university-coincidentally (碰巧地), the same room in which i had been born two years earlier.when i looked at my brother for the first time, i felt a mixture of fear and interest. little did know that small, pink creature would grow up to be one of my favorite people in the world.in reality, though i am two years older than my brother, i am more often than not the real baby in the family. i am very lacking when it comes to common sense. instructions constantly confuse me and i frequently find myself totally puzzled by things like knowing how to start the washing machine or manage the storage settings on my iphone. thats where gibson comes in. the poor kid has had to guide me through more tasks than i would care to admit, but he never complains. though i should probably be told to figure it out myself, he always comes through. im envious of his ability to readily answer the ever-present, “what do you want to do with your life?” q
