Generation Gap Generation gap is a term that refers to the “difference” between the old and the young. Because of the “difference,” old people and young people dont see eye to eye on many things. As a result, “disagreements” or “conflicts” often occur between the two generations. Since generation gap may cause social problems, more and more people are concerned about it. In my view, mutual understanding between the old and the young should be promoted as a way to narrow the gap. Different generations live different lifestyles and may hold opposite views. The young prefer to spend tomorrows money and tend to accept fresh ideas or things more readily while the old tend to be more frugal and conventional. Due to these differences, generations can not understand each other so that they diverge wildly. They are unable to exchange ideas, not to mention the so-called respect. Whats more, generation gap causes several social problems as well. It leads to more juvenile delinquency and the whole society is lack of harmony as the greater generation gap. So it appears the increasing necessity to promote mutual understanding. I hold the most crucial device is to contact more and communicate with each other so that they can exchange ideas and understand more.
