This is reviewed annually.hoursThe normal hours of work are eight hours a day. Monday to Friday. A shift system is in operation. This should be arranged with your line manager.overtimeIf you work more than forty hours a week, you will be paid at the current overtime rate. Your line manger will keep a record of the overtime you work. If you work on public holidays, you will be paid at the current rates. If you prefer, time can be taken instead of extra pay for public holidays and overtime.clothingThe Suppliers Department provides overalls. Inform Supplies of your size two days before you need them. You can also order any other special equipment you need for your job from Supplies.一般来说，我们在签订劳动合同的时候，上边都有一个提示：那就是要您仔细阅读合同条款。在纤维技术公司的雇佣条款也有这样的提示：These terms and conditions should be read before you sign your contract.在签订合同之前必须阅读以下条款。我们先来看有关工资的条款：Your starting salary is 14,000. This is reviewed annually.起始薪水为14000英镑，按照年度进行调整。我们在工作一段时间后，工资一般都会有所调整，所以有这个starting salary 起薪的概念。接下来是工作时间条款。The normal hours of work are eight hours a day, Monday to Friday. 星期一至星期五，正常工作时间为每天8小时。有时候我们在表示天天上班，全天上班的时候可以这样说：Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.A shift system is in operation. The shift are A 06:00 14:00 B 14:00 22:00 C 22:00 6:00实行轮班制度，各班次的工作时间为：A班06：00 14：00 B班14：00 22：00， C班22:00 6: 00 in operation 表示“在实施中”的意思。比如：Nowadays, there are a number of different systems in operation. 当前，实行着好几种不同的制度。There are three shift groups and the following system is in operation.现在实施的是3个班次和以下的制度。接下来的雇佣条款就详细说了这三个班次的上班安排。Week one: Group one Shift A Group two Shift B Group three Shift C。在第一周的时候，1组上A班，2组上B班，3组上C班。在第二周或第三周的时候就不断轮换，因为这是一个轮班制度。This is a shift system.For your first shift, week commencing 8/6, you will be in Group three and Week three will be in operation.假如你第一次上班的时间是在6月8日开始的那一周，你就会分在C组，按照第三周的轮班制度上班。在这句话中，有一个语言点我们要特别注意的，那就是日期的表示方法。在英国英语中，天数是放在月份前面的，而美国英语天数是放在月份后边，因为BEC是典型的英国英语，所以8/6在这里表示的是6月8号。再举一个详细的例子，中文：1987年4月20号的英式表达方法为：20th April, 1987，读成the twentieth of April, nineteen eighty-seven；而美式的表达方法是：April 20, 1987，读成April the twentieth, nineteen eighty-seven。On the first morning report to your line manager John Knight. 上班第一天上午应该向部门经理John Knight报告。有时候，我们也会用“向谁报告，report to sb”来表示我们的直接领导是谁。例如：I report to John. 这里的意思就是：John 是我的直接领导。您收听的优马思初级商务英语节目，我是欧德喻。刚给大家讲解的是纤维技术公司的工资条款和工作时间条款。现在我们继续来看它的其它雇佣条款。health and safety 健康和安全条款Please read the safety regulations attached. If you have any questions, contact the Health and Safety Officer, whose name is at the top of the regulations sheet.请阅读附页上的安全守则。如果有疑问，可与健康与安全部门的负责人联系，守则上方有该联系人的姓名。一般的公司或工厂都会有这些安全规范，我们称这些安全规范为safety regulationsIf you have any health problems, please inform the Senior Nurse, Jane Thomas.健康方面如果有问题，应通知高级护士Jane ThomasIf you cannot work because of illness, please telephone the factory before your shift is due to start.若因病不能上班，必须在上班前打电话通知厂方。due 做形容词的时候表示“安排好的，预定的”意思。比如：The guests are due to arrive here next week. 客人们预定下周到达此地。另外，我们还要特别注意的，那就是due to 连在一起的时候，也可以表示“由于，因为”的意思，比如：The failure of the scheme was due to bad management. 计划的失败是由于管理不善。接下来，我们来看有关年假的条款Annual leave：During your first year of employment you are allowed twenty days leave.
