Teaching Aids: Tape recorder Multi-Media.Teaching ProceduresStep 1 Lead-in1. Whats the weather like today? Is there any bad weather in our city?2. Let students answer the questions and revise the vocabulary about weather: cloudy, foggy, windy, rainy, sunny, snowyStep 2 Presentation1. Hobo has some trouble. What happened to him? Lets have a look. Let students watch a video of Comic strip, then answer the following questions.(1) Whats the weather like?(2) What was Hobo doing when it started to rain?(3) What did Hobo see when he wake up?(4) Why doesnt he want to go home alone?2. Let students repeat after the tape.3. Let students look at Picture2, and explain “was sleeping”, lead in the Past continuous tense.4. Let students read the dialogue together.5. Let students practice the dialogue in pairs, then act it out.Step 3 Presentation1. What was the weather like when Hobo was sleeping?When theres too much rain in a short time, it can turn into a disaster: flood. Teach: disaster floodDo you know about any other disasters? Storm (snowstorm, rainstorm, sandstorm),earthquake, typhoon, fire 2. All these natural disasters are caused by natural forces. They are different from accidents. Teach: accident Accidents are usually caused by people.3. Can you tell the difference between natural disasters and accidents now? Here are some newspaper headlines. Please discuss in pairs to find out which ones are natural disasters.4. Check the answers together, and let students read together. Pay attention to the tips on P93.Step 4 Activities1. Divide the students into groups of four, hand out the newspapers to each student, ask them to write some headlines about natural disasters and accidents.
