9、My Best Friend and I好友和我00:07.99I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend.00:13.24She had just moved into the neighborhood and her grandmother who also lived in the neighborhood brought her down to meet me.00:21.12I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, scared to look at each other.00:27.58Soon, we lost the shyness and started playing with each other, bike riding to each others house and having sleepovers.00:36.66In 7th grade, I first lost touch with her.00:40.16However every summer we would always sit at each others house and watch soap operas, and talk about all the boys we liked.00:48.14It was last year when I noticed the problem.00:51.86I guess I was just to catch up in high school to realize she needed someone there for her.00:57.12Well, she made a new best friend and so did I.01:01.38Then I didnt know why, but she started cutting herself!01:05.76She was diagnosed with clinical depression, and had to go to a hospital during the day.01:11.56I was very upset at first but with the late night calls, and meeting each other halfway up the street at midnight.01:19.33We still stayed in touch.01:21.29I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend basically deserted her since people were calling her crazy,01:28.52and I knew I still cared about her like a sister.01:31.91Yesterday she came to me and said this:01:34.86I never knew what a best friend was until you were the only person that would stop me from cutting;01:41.32the only person that ever made me feel better about myself and my problems.01:46.35You dont know this but I was trying to kill myself this one night you called me and I was crying.01:52.85I owe you so much, and you didnt even know you were helping me.01:57.51We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never give up on your friends.02:06.36Even if they arent as cool as others, or people think they are crazy, they need someone there.02:13.15If you desert them, you will only be miserable yourself.02:16.87So if a friend needs you, and you care for them, you can never desert them.10、Big Oak Tree大橡树00:06.01Tommy was eleven and Sabrina soon would be.00:10.17Every morning they would meet beside the big oak tree.00:13.90In the summer, they would play together in the sun and sit beneath the big oak tree when the day was done.00:20.90One time when they were talking of growing up some day,00:25.49they agreed theyd meet back there and maybe even stay.00:28.99By the big oak tree they could build a little home and they would be together and neither one would roam.00:35.45When Tommy was thirteen and Sabrina soon would be,00:39.38they stood together one last time beside the big oak tree.00:43.65Tommy had to leave for his family soon would move.00:47.59He took his pocketknife and in the big oak made a groove.00:51.64The groove was Tommys simple way of giving her his word.00:56.67As he spoke so softly, this is what Sabrina heard: On your eighteenth birthday, Ill return to our oak tree.01:05.20Then we will be together forever-you and me.01:08.59City life was hectic and the years did quickly fly.01:12.86Tommy never once forgot Sabrinas last good-bye.01:16.26He had marked the calendar each year on her birthday.01:19.42Soon hed see the big oak tree and, maybe, even stay.01:23.92He would hold Sabrinas hand; together theyd agree to stay beside each other-close to the big oak tree.01:31.14Tommy headed for the tree one Sunday afternoon.01:35.07It was her eighteenth birthday and he would see her soon.01:38.68When Tommy reached the tree, he found a written note.01:43.06It was from Sabrinas mom, and here is what she wrote:01:47.00Sabrina cannot meet you; she wont be here today.01:50.94In this envelope is what Sabrina has to say.01:54.76He opened up the letter and his hands began to shake.01:58.71As he read Sabrinas words, his heart began to break.02:03.30Tommy, dear, I know that you are standing by our tree.02:07.56When you see a big oak tree, always think of me.02:11.18I wont be here to meet you; the Angels came my way.02:15.99Nothing else would keep me from meeting you today.02:19.05Look up in the sky, and youll know that I can see you standing there and waiting-beside our big oak tree.02:27.37Love, sometimes is beyond the hands reach, yet it can exist in the mind.11、The Powerful Gift of Love强大的爱之礼物Due to a medical misdiagnosis, Susan had been rendered sightless, and she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness, anger, frustration and self pity. Mark, her husband, was an Air Force officer and he loved Susan with all his heart. When she first lost her sight, he watched her sink into despair and was determined to help his wife gain the strength and confidence she needed to become independent again. Finally, Susan felt ready to return to her job, but how would she get there? Mark promised Susan that each morning and evening he would ride the bus with her, for as long as it took, until she got the hang of it. And that is exactly what happened. For two solid weeks, Mark, military uniform and all, accompanied Susan to and from work each day. Finally, Susan decided to try the trip on her own and it turned out that she was doing it well. On Friday morning, Susan took the bus to work as usual. As she was paying the fare to exit the bus, the driver said, Boy, I sure do envy you. Susan wasnt sure if the driver was speaking to her or not. After all, who on earth would ever envy a blind woman who had struggled just to find the courage to live for the past year? Curious, she asked the driver, Why do you say that you envy me? The driver responded, It must feel good to be taken care of and protected like you are. Susan had no idea what the driver was talking about, and again asked, What do you mean? The driver answered, You know, every morning for the past week, a fine looking gentleman in a military uniform has been standing across the corner watching you as you get off the bus. He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches until you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, gives you a little salute and walks away. You are one lucky lady. Tears of happiness poured down Susans cheeks. For although she couldnt physically see him, she had always felt Marks presence. She was lucky, so lucky, for he had given her a gift more powerful than sight, a gift she didnt need to see to believethe gift of love that can bring light where there is darkness.12、If so for birds, why not for man鸟儿尚且如此,何况人呢?00:12.02This is a true story. 00:13.77It was on a winter morning, near Oxford, Maryland, that a friend of mine set the breakfast table beside the huge window, 00:21.98which overlooked the Tred Avon River. 00:24.60Across the river, beyond the dock, the snow laced the rim of the shore in white. 00:29.85For a moment she stood quietly, looking at what the nights storm had painted.00:34.99Suddenly she leaned forward and peered close to the frosted window. 00:39.59“It really is true” she cried out loud. “There is a goose out there.” 00:45.39She saw a large Canadian goose, very still, its wings folded tight to its sides, its feet frozen to the ice.00:54.79Then from the dark skies, she saw a line of swans. 00:59.18They moved in their own singular formation, graceful, intrepid, and free. 01:04.65Suddenly they floated from the top of the sky downward and at last surrounded the frozen goose. 01:11.64Seeing this, my friend feared what life it still had might be pecked out by those great swan bills.01:18.87Instead, amazingly, those bills began to work on the ice. 01:24.67At last, the goose was rimmed by a narrow margin of ice instead of the entire creek. 01:30.46The swans rose again, hovered in a circle, awaiting the results of their labors.01:36.26The gooses head lifted. Its body pulled. 01:39.55Then the goose was free and standing on the ice. 01:42.83But it seemed not be able to fly. Later, four of the swans came down around it. 01:49.83Their powerful beaks scraped the gooses wings from top to bottom and rode up its body, 01:55.73chipping off the ice held in the feathers.01:58.58The goose spread its wings as far as they would go. 02:02.74When at last the wings reached their fullest, the four swans took off and joined the hovering group. 02:10.29They resumed flying in perfect formation, to their secret destination.02:15.21Behind them, rising with incredible speed and joy, the goose moved into the sky. 02:21.99It followed them, flapping double time, until it caught up, until it joined the last end of the elegant line.02:29.54My friend was deeply moved with tears running down her cheeks. 02:34.36Even birds give a hand to those in trouble. 02:37.53I just often think of this story in the bad moments and tell myself,“If so for birds, why not for man”13、Flying 飞翔00:08.30Once upon a time there was a little orphan boy who had always wished that he could fly like a bird. 00:15.30Why cant I fly like a bird? he thought.00:19.80There was another little boy who was crippled. 00:23.08He had always wished that he could walk and run like other little boys and girls. 00:28.54Why cant I be like them? he wondered.00:32.81One day the little orphan boy met the little crippled boy in a park. 00:37.08He ran over to the little boy and asked him if he had ever wanted to fly like a bird.00:43.76No, said the little crippled boy. 00:46.27But I have wondered what it would be like to walk and run like other boys and girls.00:52.72That is very sad. the little orphan boy said, Do you think we could be friends?00:58.96Sure.01:00.60The two little boys played happily for hours. 01:03.55Then the little crippled boys father came with a wheelchair to pick up his son. 01:09.02The little orphan boy ran over to the boys father and whispered something into his ear.01:15.16That would be OK, said the man.01:18.00Then the little boy ran over to his new friend and said, 01:22.27You are my only friend and I wish that there was something that I could do 01:27.08to make you walk and run like other little boys and girls. 01:30.91But I cant. But there is something that I can do for you.01:35.06The little orphan boy turned around and told his new friend to slide up onto his back. 01:42.29He then began to run across the grass. 01:45.90Faster and faster he ran, carrying the little crippled boy on his back. 01:51.47Faster and harder he ran across the park. 01:55.05Harder and harder he made his legs travel. 01:58.44Soon the wind just whistled across the two little boys faces.02:03.03The little boys father began to cry as he watched his beautiful little crippled son 02:08.83flapping his arms up and down in the wind, all the while yelling at the top of his voice,02:14.08IM FLYING, DADDY. IM FLYING!02:18.03Friends always do their best to help us accomplish your dreams. 02:21.74The little orphan boy could do nothing to make the crippled boy walk or run, but he managed to make him “fly”. 02:29.95He failed to make his own dream of flying come true, but he took delight in helping his friend “fly”.14、Salty Coffee咸味咖啡00:08.86A boy invited a girl to have coffee with him at a party. 00:12.80He was too nervous to say anything, and she felt uncomfortable.00:17.18Suddenly he asked the waiter: would you please give me some salt? 00:22.42Id like to put it in my coffee.00:24.50She asked him curiously: “why do you have this hobby?”00:28.88He replied: Every time I have the salty coffee, 00:32.71I always think of my childhood, think of my hometown, I miss my hometown so much, 00:39.28I miss my parents who are still living there.?00:42.01While saying that, tears filled his eyes. 00:45.29She was deeply touched. 00:47.16Then she also started to speak, spoke about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family. 00:54.48That was a really nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story.00:59.51They continued to date. 01:01.59She found that actually he was a man who met all her demands; he had tolerance, was kind hearted, warm, careful. 01:10.34Then they got married and were living the happy life.01:13.19And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some salt in the coffee, as she knew thats the way he liked it.01:19.98After 40 years, he passed away, left her a letter which said: 01:24.90My dearest, please forgive me, forgive my whole life lie. 01:30.70This was the only lie I said to youthe salty coffee.01:35.29I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life, but I was too afraid to do that, 01:39.99as I have promised not to lie to you for anything.01:42.84Now Im dying, Im afraid of nothing so I tell you the truth: 01:47.98I dont like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste. 01:52.58But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life!01:56.74Since I knew you, I never feel sorry for anything I do for you. 02:00.89Having you with me is my biggest happiness for my whole life. 02:05.06If I can live for a second time, I still want to know you and have you for my whole life, 02:11.84even though I have to drink the salty coffee again.02:15.23Her tears made the letter totally wet.02:19.06Some day, someone asked her: “whats the taste of salty coffee?” “Its sweet.” She replied.02:26.94The magic of love works in the loving pairs. 02:30.32Both parts are always ready to sacrifice for the others sake. 02:34.49Though probably such a sacrifice will cause bitterness to the contributing one, he or she feels sweet.15、Color of Friendship友谊的颜色00:08.63Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. 00:13.45All claimed that they were the best.
