Unit4 I used to be afraid of the dark.Section A(1a-2c) 九江外国语学校 李娟Good morning, my dear judges. Its my great honor to have this opportunity to share my teaching design with you. The lesson - “I used to be afraid of the dark.” This is a listening and speaking class. Today Im going to talk about this lesson from these aspects. Analysis of the teaching materialFirstly, lets come to the analysis of teaching material. The topic of this lesson talks about “what you used to be like”. This lesson is about Unit 4 Section A (1a-2c), After learning this lesson, students are able to understand changeable in different period. Also, students can use the target language and useful phrases properly. Analysis of the studentsSecondly, students are the object of our class. As for the students of Grade nine, they have known quite a few knowledge of simple past tense. And they also have learned some new words and phrases about “shy, active, curly hair. Whats more, the topic “what you used to be like” in the past is close to students daily life. They will be very interested in this topic and willing to get some changes about themselves. So, it may not be so difficult for them to understand the grammar and describe the changes in this lesson. Analysis of the teaching aimsBy the analysis of the New Curriculum Standard in English, teaching material and the students in my class, I set the following three teaching objectives.Knowledge aim:1) Master the new words or phrases: humorous, silent, helpful, from time to time.2) Grasp different sentences structures of “ used to ” like “Did you use to? What did you use to?”3) know the function of “use to ” for what often do in the past or the stateAbility aim:Through the different ways of practice, use the kinds of pattern “used to” skillfullyEmotional aim:Students understand that things are developing and changing, cultivate positive mentality. Analysis of the key and difficult pointsAccording to the analysis above, I set the key points and difficult points as the followingsTeaching Key Points:Summarize the different sentence patterns “used to ”Teaching Difficult Points:Use the kinds of pattern “used to” skillfully. Analysis of teaching methodsNow, I would like to talk about the teaching methods and studying methods. As to the teaching methods, situational method and Task-based Teaching Method will be adopted in this lesson. Based on the learning condition of my students, I arranged some activities to make the teaching process more attracted. For example, I will ask students to make conversations and do reports in groups, which can help them form a good sense of cooperation. Analysis of the teaching aids Projector,slide show,a tape recorder , blackboard and multimedia will be used in this class teaching aids. Analysis of the teaching proceduresNow, lets come to the most important part of this lesson: the analysis of the teaching procedures. This lesson is divided into 4 stages, that is, lead-in, presentation, consolidation and summary & homework.Step 1: Warming up and lead- in:The first step is leaning-in by looking at two different viedos . Then ask them to pay attention to these questions:A:Who is it? B;It is Jing Xing.A:In the past Jing Xing was a dancer,but now she is a talker.B;Jing Xing used to be a dancer.A:In the past Jing Xing was quiet,but now she is outgoing.B;Jing Xing used to be quiet.A:In the past Jing Xing was handsome,but now she is beautiful.B;Jing Xing used to be beautiful.A:I used to have short hair,but now I have long hair, Make Ss know about “quiet, outgoing handsome, beautiful, short /long hair”, they are about appearance and personality. Even give Ss more words and let them know the differences well.Step 2: Presentation Activity 1;Use so many words about appearance and personality to describe themselves,parents,classmates and teachers.Activity2;Then have a listening to 1b,fill in the blanks. Activity3; Next,give some famous starsphotos and ask Ss to guess their pasts withDid XX use to be/have/wear?A;Did Jiang Wen use to wear glasses?B;Yes,he did.A;Did Zhou Jielun use to be shy?B:No,he didnt.A;B;Activity4;Do listening exercises 2a,2b fill in the chart about how Paula has changed.Step 3: consolidationActivity5; “ How Paula has changed.”this topic will lead to make a survey and report“ Who has changed most in our class.”Ss first talk out in each group then stand up talking in class.Activity6;People not only change their appearance and personality,but also change their hobbies,habits,Practice listening and speaking again.(listen to Abes viedo.)Task How Abe has changed!In the pastNowP1P2P3P4Step 4: summary & homework.Activity7:Time flies!People sure change,our lives sure change ,too. Watch the following photos ,they will remind us of How our life has changed, then finish the exercises. . In the first photo, the color of the photo is _,in the last photo, it is_. In the past, people used _ to take photos, and these days it is more convenient to use _to take photos. When the daughter was younger, she went to school by _or_, nowadays, she and her children from another city will take a_ to fathers home on vacation.
