Question:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? University students should not be required to attend classes. Instead, they should be able to receive credits through a final test or paper. Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.Answer:University students should be required to attend classes. Nowadays, parts of the students in universities may consider that they are more intelligent and more competent of teaching themselves than their teachers are, so being unwilling to attend classes. Yet, on the contrary, attending classes can be more beneficial than self-studying.Students may be more intelligent, but in some other aspects, students can be disadvantaged. Experience, the product of time, plays an irreplaceable role in life. University professors have tens of years of experience which knowledge cannot take its position. Like laws, you may recite all the clauses of a written law, but how do you know in what circumstances to use it? Why doesnt the Supreme Court of the United States use those under 40 to be the judges instead of those over 60? One reason is that judging a case correctly and precisely largely depends on the judges experience. Those over 60 have judged thousands of cases and obtained a lot from their past. Students are like the young judges, and theyll have the tests of time; professors are like the old ones, who have obtained plenty of experience and have the advance of passing it to their students, which can decrease the chances of students making mistakes in their future lives. This is the first reason why students should be required to attend classes.Besides experience, universities also need a quiet situation for students studying. Lets imagine if students were not required to attend classes, they would just do whatever they want for their own studying. A French-major student might sing songs in French loudly for this would be his best way to study French; a dancing-major student might dance outside the classroom in the garden with loud accompany for fresh air would make her relax; groups of students might sit together discussing their problems. Those would totally mess up the basic discipline of university. One suitable way for one student in studying committed may disrupt others studying. This is the second reason why students should be required to attend classes. If students left classroom and just self-study for their tests of credits, who could assure they would actually study hard and take no care of the fascinates around them? Many people believe they can have a second chance for life, and just wait for it taking no care of whether they would fail or not. Life isnt a book; you cant read it time after time as you want. Time passed wont return. I remember a movie called Seventeen Again. It describes a man who got back to his 17 and fixed up the mistakes he had made in the past, and then finally he gained his happiness. It is indeed a beautiful illusion of human wishes. Yet, in reality, life wont turn back, ages wont turn back. If we lose ourselves in such casual studying situation, what consequences will happen to us? So, attending classes can have a positive effect of supervising students to do in a way a student should do. This is the third reason why students should be required to attend classes.According to the reasons stated above, in order to obtain more experience besides knowledge, to create a campus without chaos, to supervise students to concentrate on studying, university students should be required to attend classes.University students should be required to attend classes.
