numbers of participants. other extreme sports include ice canoeing, underwater hockey, extreme mountain-hiking and so on. today well continue to feel extreme sports.first read listening strategies with the class. ask students what clues they get about the content of the next listening text from the title of this lesson, the pictures and their own knowledge of the world. then give students time to read through the questions and guess the answers before playing the tape.t: before we listen to the tape, lets read the listening strategies together. while reading, you should think about these strategies.after students listen to the tape, lead students to look at the title of this lesson, the questions and the pictures, and try to guess the answers before you play the tape.several minutes later, check their guess.t: can you guess the clue of this listening text?ss: it must be about extreme sports and peoples preferences.t: ok, lets listen to the tape and see if your guess is right. now, ill play the tape, and you listen carefully and answer the questions of ex 2. play the tape. then, check the answers with the whole class. play again if necessary.deal with ex 2 on page 24.then, turn to the second part. let students look at the table to do some listening preparation. play the tape and give students several minutes to finish the table. then, check the answers with the whole class. t: you see your guess is right. you have done well. thank you. now lets turn to ex 4 and 5. before listening, you first look at the table and function file, read through the list of verbs and sentences in the function file. can you remember these expressions?ss: yes. we have learned and used them in the first period. t: so today well look at them again. the listening passage is about them, yes?ss: yes.play the tape. then the students finish ex 4-5. after that, check the answers with the whole class.step ii speaking and writinglet students discuss in pairs and make up a dialogue about students preferences for sports. let them pay attention to intonation in questions and students may use the words and expressions they have learned in this lesson. for example: quite like, would (not) like to try, cant stand, prefer, hate, be interested in, etc.t: in the listening passage, we listened to two passages, which are about extreme sports. also we learn some sentence patterns expressing preferences. now look at ex 6 on page 25, you are given three minutes to use these words to write sentences about your preferences.three minutes later, let students read out their sentences to the class.t: who wants to have a try?s1: i love rock climbing. id like to try rock climbing.s2: i like swimming. id like to go swimming.s3: i am really into bungee jumping. i want to have a try.s4: im interested in ice-skating. id like to have a try.t: good. in pairs, use the sentences that students have just made up to interview your partner. you can refer to the example in ex 10.several minutes later, teacher let one or two groups to practice interviewing his or her partner.s5: is your partner really into sports?s6: yes, he is. hes really into sports. he loves playing basketball.s5: is your partner interested in extreme sports?s6: yes, he likes rock climbing. then let students do some exercises to consolidate expressing preferences.t: now id like you to write a small passage about ones preferences towards sports.three minutes later, check the answers.sample writing: my uncle quite likes football but he cant stand slow sports. he works in a sports club. he would love to watch football match whenever he has a rest. he prefers basketball to football and he would quite like to watch basketball match. he hates baseball, so he wouldnt like to watch the baseball match.step iii pronunciationt: while speaking and listening, we will always remember some cases where we make our intonation go up at the end? have you ever considered this situation?ss: yes. t: now read the sentences in ex 9; try to read them yourselves.give students one minute to read these sentences. later, get one or two students to read out these sentences.t: you have read these sentences. but have you read them right? lets listen to the tape to see if you are right.play the tape while the students pay attention to the intonation. several minutes later, check answers.t: have you known the reason why you are right or wrong? is there any rule?s7: yes, i know. the rising situation is used in questions that can be answered by “yes/no”. the falling intonation is used in question-word questions, i.e. beginning with “wh-”.t: you are right. so from now on you should pay attention to the intonation of sentences, especially in questions.step iv language studyt: lets do some language study. in this part, we have some verbs or verbal phrases. look at the screen and try to fill in the blanks with the following phrases.go through with, turn up, be into, take up, set up, put on, get across, back out1. she is a good teacher. she can always new information. 2. george riding. his horse is called tilly.3. i bungee jumping for three years.1. a: hello, do you still remember we arranged to see
