on his expeditions. a: has he got any advice for young people interested in going on expeditions?b: yes. one very good piece of advice is this: the key to a successful expedition is your brains not adventure dreams. all these will go by as time goes on. how can we remember or show them to our friends? the best way for our students is to make a footprint map. we can make a footprint map on our bulletin board. then what is a footprint map? look at the bulletin board on page 33. its just a bulletin board. now read the notes on the bulletin board and try to find out the information that is included in each description and what elements make each description interesting.after students reading, ask some students to give their answers.s7: the first description tells us the journey to new zealand and his experience of bungee jumping. the author uses “fun but scary” to describe his experience, which makes his writing interesting.s8: the second one is about adventure dreams. the author uses imagination to describe his dreams.t: good. now you can choose one place that you have ever visited and you want to visit. make descriptions about them. you write down the two passages just like what is on the sample map.give students several minutes to do their writing, then, ask some students to read their writings out.sample writing (i):last year, i went to fujian and visited the wuyi mountain. i think a tour of the wuyi mountain is well worth my time. this place has clear rivers, beautiful forests on hills, exciting extreme games and peaceful villages. jade lady peak is as beautiful as ever. jiuquxi is a green river in the shape of a snake. on the river we can see many high hills or stop to climb a rock staircase to the top of tianyoufeng. from there i went bungee jumping for the first time. its a real challenge. my legs were attached to a single rubber band and i had to throw myself off the top of tianyoufeng. in another part of the river, i took a boat down a whitewater. i wore a t-shirt to protect myself from being wet and tied glasses to my head. it was thrilling. never change your mind about going down a river. there was so much fun that i wanted to go on the whitewater trip again. just be brave and everyone can be excited. what a wonderful and exciting trip it was!sample writing (ii):i always dreamed about some day of going to the forbidden city to see all the beautiful buildings, the treasures, and the antiques. it was like a dream to go on the trip and see the things that i have always wanted to see. i have known that the forbidden city was built in 1420. it stands in the center of the capital of china, beijing. it is surrounded by high walls with dragons on each wall. the palace contains over ten thousand rooms. it was where the emperors held their court sessions with their servants. in mandarin, the forbidden city is called the purple forbidden city. the color of the palace itself is not purple however. the color purple is the symbolic color for the omnipotence of the great emperors of china. it was a place so sacred that the commoners could not even dream of ever going in. even some of the officials could not go in there if uninvited. some of the largest festivals were also held at the forbidden city. during chinese new year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. the banquet was consisted of a hundred and eight dishes of chinese delicacies. it was a banquet so expensive that it could feed a commoners family for three generations. i also know that right now the forbidden city serves as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. everyone can go in there. it is a museum containing invaluable chinese antiques and treasures. it was the home of the emperors of the last two dynasties in china, the ming and qing dynasties. it is also the home of my dream. time permitting, ill certainly go on this trip.t: now turn to page 74 and lets do some
