Speaking1. There can be several advantages to spending time living in another country. Talk about one advantage and explain how living in another country provides that advantage. Use details and examples in your response. One of the advantages to spend time living in another country is to learn catering culture. Different country has different lifestyle so that they can own different catering culture. For example, I once lived in United States. People are busy working in order that they have few times to eat junk food for lunch. But in China people always have one more hours so that they can enjoy their lunch. When Americans cook they always make sure how many sugars or salts they will need. But in China the chef usually says we need some sugars and a few salts. 2. Some people enjoy spending their free time alone in activities such as reading, thinking, or writing. Others enjoy spending their free time in shared activities with other people. Which do you prefer and why? I prefer to spend free time on shared activities with other people. First, I can make new friends and enhance my relationship with friends. Im sure that my friends and I can have a lot in common. Second, I can learn some communicating skills through sharing the same interests. I think it is significant for us to utilize these activities. After some while, it is no doubt that we will be erudite, confident and voluble. 3, No More International NewsFor the past few years, the daily campus newspaper has included a one-page international news section covering a few of the major stories in world news. Starting next month, the section will be eliminated. One of the reasons the newspaper editors gave for the decision to cut the section is that other news sources are better able to provide wider and more up-to-date international news coverage. The editors also noted that the change would create space for a new calendar page that will list events and activities around campus. In the reading, the university decides to eliminate the international news because the new sources provide wider and more up-to-date international coverage and the change would create space for a new calendar page. In the listening, the woman agrees with the decision for the following reasons. First, hardly anyone read that section and the news just can cover part of the story. People already know about that before they read the newspaper and everyone can get information from local newspaper or internet. Second, after getting news from poster and the student center people cant remember them for a long time. But if they can have a calendar page they will cut down the paper, carry them around and check them anytime. 4. Reference GroupsOur thinking and behavior are often influenced by other people. When we admire and respect someone, we naturally try to imitate their behavior and attitudes. Groups of people whom we admire and whose behavior and attitudes we tend to imitate are known as reference groups. Reference groups provide a model-a frame of reference-that can shape how we think and behave. Over the course of a lifetime, we may be influenced by many different reference groups. As we grow older, or encounter new circumstances, our reference groups may change, and our attitudes and behavior may change accordingly. In the reading, reference groups of people whom we admire and whose behavior and attitudes we tend to imitate. In the listening, the professor uses his own experience to illustrate the phenomenon. When he first began his university studies, he made friends with art students. He thought they were older fun and creative. He felt they were cool because they always wore T-shirts, jeans and sneakers. But when he moved to Chicago, his co-workers were young. When he went to a concert or a baseball game he wore casually as usual. However, they always dressed up a little bit. They thought the men should wear nice pair pants and the woman should wear fashionable dress and nice shoes. He thought they looked very classy and sharp. So the professors reference groups has changed. 5. Briefly summarize the problem the speakers are discussing. Then state which solution you would recommend. Explain the reasons for your recommendation. The man wants to go to downtown from campus by bus, but the bus schedule has changed. First, the man can change work hours from lately afternoon to midnight, but hell be very tired because he has early class next morning. Second, the man can spend fifteen minutes riding there, but he doesnt do enough exercise. He also worries about the bad weather. Personally, I would prefer the second solution, because hes right, he doesnt do enough exercise. And if necessary, he can do more exercise in the daily life.6. Using the examples of the Venus flytrap and the sundew, describe two ways that carnivorous plants get their nutrients. In the lecture, the professor talks about two ways carnivorous plants capture insects. The first way is active trap. For example, Venus flytrap has some parts that can move to catch the prey. Its leaves are hinged in the middle and the two parts of the leaves look like a mouth. Also its leaves have sweet nectar on them to attract the insects. When insects are attracted by the nectar and land on the leaves, the leaves spring shut and form little cages. Then Venus flytrap can digest the insects and get nutrients. The second way is passive trap. For example, the Sundew plant ha
