Report on the Chinese College Students about the Best English Study Method and Teaching Method 09016 ElaineAbstract:The report is to research the current situation and attitude of Chinese students methods to study English as a foreign language in modern time. Setting the 18 Chinese students in Tianjin Foreign Language Study College as the research objects, the report draw the conclusion from the paper writings on the question of the best English study methods and face-to-face interviews of the students on the best English-teaching methods.As the result of the research shows, 32% of the objects believe the reciting is the best method to study English based on their own experience. Reading is ranked second at 22%, while speaking follows in 17% and listening 11%. In the second part, interviews on the students about the best English-teaching method demonstrate that supporters for non-Communicative Language Teaching outstrip Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) by 22%. Clearly, the report implies that Chinese students prefer to study English with traditional methods such as reciting and non-Communicative Language Teaching. To improve the studying efficiency of Chinese College Students in English learning, Communicative Language Teaching is supposed to adjust itself better to China and Chinese college students should open their arms to more new study methods, improving their English skills in all aspects.Introduction:A good study method counts a lot in language learning. As Chinese college students entered the campus, they already have studies English for over 6 years. But many students still take pains to find a proper way to study English well. There is a need to make clear the current situation and attitude of Chinese college students English learning methods. Based on the 18 students own experience in English learning, the research is designed by asking students 3 questions:Qustion1: What is your best way to learn English based on your own experience in English study? Question2: Do you like English-teaching method in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom? Why or why not?Qustion3: Do you like non-Communicative Language Teaching in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom? Why or why not?.Materials and MethodsThe research was conducted through two methods: Firstly, analysis the hand-writings of 18 research objects on the question about the best way to study English based on their own experience; secondly, glean the first-hand information by the face-to-face interviews on the students about their attitude towards Communicative Language Teaching. On the first question, the student is required to write down their personal experience in English learning and pick out their favorite method and explain why. While on the second question about the Communicative Language Teaching, each student is free to express their own feeling on it. In the whole research, detail notes were taken down by the researcher to make a factual conclusion. .Results Here is the result of the 18 papers gathered in the first question about the best way to learn English. More details:32% of the all research objects, that is 6 students in the 18, asserted that reciting is the best way to study English in their opinion. The biggest advantage of reciting as they claimed is that it can help us to enlarge our vocabularies quickly and bestow us a native English sense by memorizing original English works.Reading ranked second at 22% in the research. In other word, 4 students believed that reading helps them most in learning English in that it can give us more access to learn good English expression and more knowledge about English culture and custom.The third is speaking. 17% of the research objects think as English is a language; we improve it most through more speaking practice. Listening, debating and watching movies a; come fourthly with each occupying 6%. The left 11% research objects hold different views on the best way to study English such as doing more practice on comprehension and making friends with English foreigners. On the second part of the research, 18 students expressed their attitude towards Communicative Language Teaching. As the graph above demonstrates, the supporters for non-Communicative Language Teaching outstrip Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) by 22%. The reasons why 11 students (61% in all) dislike CLT are as follows:1. 28% of the students researched in all think CLT waste a lot of time in class and it is of little help for only a few students will join the communicative activities leaded by the teacher on class.2. 22% research objects believe that non-Communicative Language Teaching suits them better for they are used to the traditional teaching method as teacher speaking while students listening, which will give more stuffed class.3. 11% of all students think CLT is nothing interesting.And the main reasons the left 39% like CLT are:1. 22% in all believe that CLT is much more interesting than the traditional non-Communicative Language Teaching and it can inspire all students to take part in the lecture.2. 17% think CLT helps students learn better through communications and activities in class and it renders us more practical skills in English. 3. 11% of all research objects claim that CLT is better than non-Communicative Language Teaching for it can help students chance to find their own weakness in English by using it in class. .Discussion After analysisng the result of the research, we can draw a conclusion that at present, Chinese students still prefer to study English with traditional methods such as reciting, reading and non-Communicative Language Teaching. Personally speaking, it is disappointing to find that now Chinese college students is quite limited and conservative in embracing Communicative Language Teaching and other more newly study methods.To improve their English skills in all aspects, we should strive to make changes in current conservative study methods. Firstly, Chinese college students should learn to make full use of modern tools such as the Internet in English study. It will efficiently help us to improve our abilities like listening, speaking and writing at one time by providing us with numerous English education resources. Second, the negative role of students in class should be replaced by a more positive one.
