Unite 8 Is there a post office near here?Good morning/afternoon teachers, it is my great honor to have this opportunity to present my teaching ideas here. My presentation is about Is there a post office near here? My presentation consists of five parts as followings;Part 1, the analysis of teaching materialsThis lesson is about Section A (1a-2c), Unit 8 of Book 2 Go for it, published by Peoples Education Press in 2012. This textbook focuses on developing the students overall ability, to stimulate their motivation for learning as well as to make them experience the functions of language. And this section focuses on the description of buildings locations and their position relationship. This is a practical topic related to peoples daily life closely. So, students will be interested in it. Part 2, the analysis of students My students are in Grade 7. They are in the transition period from concrete image thinking to abstract logical thinking. Thus, it is necessary to provide interesting images and activities to hold their attention as well as to inspire their motivation for learning English. As we all know that speaking and writing are active work, instead, listening and reading are both passive forms of English learning. Thus, in my class, I encourage my students to grasp every opportunity to practice their oral English. Part 3, teaching methodsAccording to the analysis of teaching materials and students, I combine the audio-visual teaching method, communicative teaching method, and task-based teaching method together. Additionally, I prepare computer, tape recorder and cards to aid my teaching. Part 4, teaching objectives. According to the above analysis, I set my teaching objectives as following,Firstly, the knowledge objective is that by this lesson, the students are expected to 1. Grasp the words of different buildings, such as Post office, bank, supermarket, park, hotel, etc. 2. Grasp the prepositional phrases: next to, in front of, between, across from .etc 3. To learn the sentence structure Is there a around here? Yes, there is/ No, there isnt.Where is ? Its + prepositional phrasesThe ability objective is to develop the students ability on talking about locations of places and there position relationship; The emotional objective is that to stimulate the students motivation for learning English. The important points are the names of different buildings and there be structure. . The difficult point is how to use appropriate prepositions to describe the locations of buildings. Part 5 is the teaching procedure, which is the most important section of my presentation, including the following steps;Step one, lead in. before class, I ask the students to take photos of their communities and take these photos to share in the class. I will talk about these photos with the students like: is there a supermarket near here? Yes, there is, it on. By this kind of talking, I present the language structure of there be. I will display pictures of different buildings to guild the students to study the language structure and the words of Post office, bank, supermarket, park, hotel, etc. Step two, complete the 1a of the textbook to consolidate the name of buildings and listen to the tape to complete the 1b. Step three, display flash on the computer to review the old prepositional words, such as in, on, at, and learn new words of next to, in front of, between, across from , etc. A class activity is organized as I will present a building as the starting point and ask the student to put matched building cards according to the prepositions I provide. Then, the students are divided into small groups to practice. This activity is an effective way to consolidate the new knowledge. Step four, complete the task of 2a and 2b, and doing role-play of 2c to practice the structure of where is the hospital? It near the bank, and so on The last step is assigning homework. Make a map of the surrounding of your community and list names of the main streets, roads, big buildings, and take your home as the starting point to indicate other buildings locations. The above is my teaching produces. I want to achieve my teaching objectives by providing students interesting and intuitive materials to stimulate their motivation for learning English, to develop their ability on listening, speaking, writing and reading. In the process, I will give developmental evaluation to encourage my students to take part in class activities actively as well as to improve their confidence in learning.
