Sentences: Hows the weather in Beijing? (= Whats the weather like in Beijing?) Its cloudy.(2) Learn sentence structures: Hows the weather?(3) Consolidate the present progressive tense to talk about what people are doing.(4) Be able to describe the weather.2. Ability Objects:Train students ability of listening and speaking. Students can talk about the weather.3. Emotion Objects: A new way of greetings and asking about the weather is quite a common greeting in western countries.II. Teaching Important and Difficult Points1. Important points: (1) Master the key words and sentences.(2) Learn sentence structures: Hows the weather?(3) Consolidate the present progressive tense to talk about what people are doing.(4) Be able to describe the weather.2. Teaching AidsA tape recorder, a computer, a blackboardIV. Teaching procedures Step1. Warm-upGreet the whole class. Ask the Ss randomly: Whats the date today? What day is it today? Do you like watching TV? Do you watch the weather report on CCTV1 at 7:30 p.m.?Step2 Presentation1. Lead-inShow some weather signs. Then ask students “Do you know them? Please discuss and answer.”Show the weather pictures and words, and then teach them these new words: rain, windy, cloudy, sunny, snow.Ask the students the question, “If we want to know about the weather, how do we ask?” to present the target languages “Hows the weather? =Whats the weather like?” Then show some pictures to practice.2. Teach Activity 1a.Focus on the picture in 1a. Point out the numbered list of description words. Say each one and ask Ss to repeat the words again. Then ask Ss to match each word with one of cities in the picture. Check the answers.3. Teach Activity 1b.Play the tape and get Ss to write the city names in the picture of its weather. Check the answers. 4. Teach Activity 1c.Lead the students to read the example conversation in the box. Then put them into pairs to ask and answer like the example. Give them several minutes to practice the sentence structure.Step3 Practice1. Listening. (Activity2a &2b)(1) Point to the four pictures and ask “What is the person doing in the picture?” Play the tape recorder and ask the students to listen and number the pictures. Then check answers.(2) Play the recording and have students fill in the rest of the answers in 2b.2. Pair work. (Activity 2c)Lead students to read through the example conversation in the speech bubble in 2c so that they can know what to do and how to do this activity. Then put them into pairs to practice making conversations about people in 2a. Step4.
