A Teaching Plan for Reading in Unit 5 in Go for it (2B). Teaching Contents:Do You Remember What You Were Doing?. Teaching aims:1. Knowledge aims: Learn new words and phrases: passage, pupil, completely, shocked, silence, in silence, recently, take down, terrorists, date, tower, at first2. Ability aims:A. Skim the passage to catch the main idea.B. Read and understand the passage and finish the exercises.3. Mental aims:Pay attention to the important events in history. Teaching important and difficult points:1. Learn new words and expressions.2. Read and understand the passage and finish the exercises correctly in a limited time. . Teaching aids:Pictures, multimedia, blackboardV. Teaching procedures:Step 1 Greetings and leading in T: Look at the picture. When did it happen?Ss: On May 12th, 2008.T: How did you feel when you heard the news?Ss: I felt surprised and upset.T: Where were you when you heard the news?Ss: At home/At school/ On the road/On my way to school.T: What were you doing at that time?Ss: I was having my lunch/I was watching TV/I was riding my bike to school. (Try to ask students to answer the questions.)Good. I can see that many students still remember this event and what you were doing during this event. 设计意图:利用学生熟悉的事件,创设真实的语言环境,让学生描述事件发生的时间、地点以及事件发生时自己的感受及当时所在做的事情。Step 2 Pre-readingOk, boys and girls, attention, please! Id like all of you to close your books. Just look at the two pictures on the screen. Now Id like to ask you some questions. Look at Picture 1. What can you see in the picture? A man is standing on the stage. I can see many other people around. Maybe he is making a speech. He seems like a leader. Do you know who he is?Look at Picture 2. What can you see in the picture? I can see some smoke. I can also see some tall buildings. I dont know what the names of the buildings are. Maybe the building was taken down. Now, boys and girls, please look at the screen, today were going to read a passage. The title is Do You Remember What You Were Doing? The title is helpful for you to understand the text. Just look at the title and the two pictures on the screen, can you guess what the text is about? Now, I will give you one minute to think about it. If you get the answer, please hand up!(Ask some students to guess what the text may be about, any answer will be OK.)设计意图:教会学生在读前能通过图片、标题等确定阅读的目的。Step 3 Reading1. Skim reading设计意图:教会学生读文章各段第一句的重要性。Now class, open your books at Page 38 and read the first sentence of each paragraph and try to find the answers to the following questions. Its a good idea to read the first sentence of each paragraph before you read the whole text. Now Ill give you 2 minutes.(Show the two questions on the screen.)(1) What was Robert Allen at that time?(2) Which day will Kate Smith never forget?OK, have you finished? Now, tell me which group did a better job.S1: He was a school pupil at that time.S2: September 11, 2001.2. Fast reading设计意图:培养学生快速获取细节信息的能力。Well, boys and girls, you did a very good job. Now, read the passage quickly, and try to answer the two questions: Ill see who can find the answer more quickly. (Show the two questions on the screen.)(1) What are the two events in the passage?(2) When did they happen?Check the students answers.S1:Dr. Martin Luther King was killed and the World Trade Center was taken down by terrorists.S2: Dr. Martin Luther King was killed on April 4, 1968 .And the World Trade Center was taken down on September 11, 2001.3. Detail readingRead the whole text carefully and finish off the exercises 2c and 2d.2c Read the passage again. (I was so scared that I could hardly think clearly after that.)设计意图:通过练习检测学生阅读效果。Step 4 After -reading1. As we know, the main idea of the passage is that people often remember what they were doing when they heard the news of important events in history. And in the text, the author gives two examples. Then Id like to ask you another question, why did the author write the passage? I think this may be a difficult and challenging question, but also a very important question. Now who would like to show your opinion? .The author wants to prove a fact. The author wants to prove the fact that people often remember what they were doing when they heard the news of important events in history.设计意图:让学生弄懂作者的写作目的,有利于学生掌握文章的结构、更透彻的理解文章。既是本节课的一个重点、也是本节课的一个难点。2. Language points.Scan the text again and find out the difficult points, and then study them together with other students. You can have a discussion and write them down on your paper. One of you gives us a report. 设计意图:改变老师先扫清阅读障碍再进行阅读的错误做法、培养学生独立发现问题、分析问题、解决问题的能力及合作学习、探究学习的意识。3. Retell the text with the help of the teacher and then by themselves.设计意图:复述是检测学生是否真正理解文章的一个比较好的办法,也是让学生语言得到内化的一个必然过程,该篇文章结构清晰,内容难度不是很大,所以我选择了复述这一做法。First, answer the following questions and then retell the text according to them.1.
