evidence that it caused the worlds first horses to shrink nearly 50 million years ago.In fact,a team from the universities of Florida and Nebraska says it has found a link between the Earth heating up and the size of mammalshorses,in this case, the last time the world heated up.The scientists used fossils to follow the evolution of horses from their earliest appearance 56 million years ago.As temperatures went up,their size went down, and vice versa;at one point they were as small as a house cat, said Dr Jonathan Bloch, curator(馆长) of the Florida Museum of Natural History, was quoted by the DailyMail as saying. The scientists say that the current warming could have the same effect on mammalsand could even make humans smaller.“Horses started out small, about the size of a small dog like a miniature schnauzer(雪纳瑞犬).Whats surprising is that after they first appeared, they then became even smaller and then dramatically increased in size, and that exactly corresponds to the global warming event, followed by cooling. It had been known that mammals were small during that time and that it was warm, but we hadnt understood that temperature specifically was driving the evolution of body size,”Dr Bloch said in the Science journal.1How did the scientists find out the evolution of horses?A.By using fossils.B.By following the horses.C.By heating up.D.By studying cats. A2Which of the following sentences is NOT true, according to the passage?A.Global warming has happened more than once.B.The Earth heating up was connected with the size of horses.C.Horses first appeared on the Earth 56 million years ago.D.The present global warming is sure to make humans shorter. D3What does the underlined word“miniature”in the last paragraph probably mean?A.Small.B.Large.C.Natural.D.Gentle. A4What would be the best title for the passage?A.Global Warming Could Make Humans ShorterB.Scientists from Florida and NebraskaC.Horses Used to Be Like CatsD.Dr Jonathan Bloch解析标题概括题。 答案AB(导学号51860005)(2017全国高考)After years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park.Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park.By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170 wolves.Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development.By the 1920s,wolves had practically disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around. The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results.Deer and elk populations-major food sources(来源) for the wolf-grew rapidly. These animals consumed large amounts of vegetation(植被),which reduced plant diversity in the park.In the absence of wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a large percentage of the parks red foxes, and completely drove away the parks beavers. As early as 1966,biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many farmers opposed the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets. The government spent nearly 30 years coming up with a plan to reintroduce the wolves. The U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone.Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone.Elk,deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red foxes have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.5What is the text mainly about?A.Wildlife research in the United States.B.Plant diversity in the Yellowstone area.C.The conflict between farmers and gray wolves.D.The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park. D6What does the underlined word “displaced” in paragraph 2 mean?A.Tested.B.Separated.C.Forced out.D.Tracked down. C7What did the disappearance of gray wolves bring about?A.Damage to local ecology.B.A decline in the parks income.C.Preservation of vegetation.D.An increase in the variety of animals. A8What is the authors attitude towards the Yellowstone wolf project?A.Doubtful.B.Positive.C.Disapproving.D.Uncaring. 答案B四、七选五阅读理解(导学号51860006)A laugh track, sometimes called canned laughter,is a collection of pre-recorded audience laughter and applause sounds added to television programs during post-production.The main purpose of the track is to trigger(激发) a response from home viewers who may not understand all of the intended humour when watching a taped sitcom(situation comedy).1Therefore,canned laughter causes natural reactions to comedies.2The producers of the HankMcCuneShow added canned laughter after the shows taping.Until that time, other radio and television comedies used a live studio audience or no canned laughter at all.In 1953,a sound engineer named Charley Douglass invented the Laff Box,a small electronic device(装置) containing numerous sounds of recorded laughter and applause. It is said that Charley Douglass selected almost all of his laugh track material from in-studio recordings of several different comedy shows.3During the 1970s,many sitcoms chose to get rid of the practice altogether or mix live audience reactions with the canned laughter.Filming a show in front of a live audience became a symbol of honour.4 Live audiences did not always provide a usable response, especially after a long day of retakes.Today, the same co
