Unit 9 What does he look like? 崇仁一中 朱玥The topic of the lesson is about peoples look. It comes from the second term of junior grade 7, unit 9 What does he look like? According to my lesson , it is made up of 7 parts: teaching materials and the students, teaching objects, important and difficult points, teaching and learning methods, teaching procedure, blackboard design, teaching evaluation. Firstly, let me have a brief introduction of the teaching material. The topic is mainly about peoples look. Its related to our lives, so its very easy to get the students interest. As we all know, interest is the best teacher. About the students, they have been learning English for almost a year. Most students are active and interested in new things. But there are also some students who are losing their confidence of learning English. So I will set different levels of tasks for different levels of students.Next, I will talk about teaching objects. There are knowledge objects, ability objects and emotional objects. As for knowledge objects, students are supposed to describe peoples height, build and hair. As for ability objects, the students will improve their speaking, listening and writing ability. They can talk about peoples look and write down short sentences about that. For emotional objects, through the discussion, students will learn to respect others and not to judge a person by his appearance. Well, let me introduce the important and difficult points. In this lesson, its very important for students to learn how to use new words and new sentences to describe a person. The most difficult part for students is the use of “be” and “have/ has” In this lesson, I will mainly use visual teaching method, situational teaching method, game teaching method, task-based teaching method, and communicative teaching method. In this lesson, students will tryindependent exploration learning, acting learning and cooperative learning.Now, let me talk about the most important part teaching procedure. There are 6 steps. Step1 Lead inWe will have this lesson during December. So I will use Christmas Day as a topic to lead in. Show a video about elves making Christmas gifts and Santa Claus is ready to deliver the gifts. But he meets a big problem : He is too heavy to get through the chimney. So he has to lose weight by running, then he can be thin and finish the work. Then, another video of elves and Santa Claus celebrating Christmas. From the video ,we can see that elves are short but Santa Claus is very tall.From this way, the teacher can not only bring in the topic, but also present some new words lively. Visual teaching method and situational teaching method are used here. Step Presentation about how to talk about peoples height and build. First, use two pictures from “Journey to the West” and “Monkey King Hero is Back”. Present the sentence patterns about peoples build and height.Then, in order to practice the sentences, let the students play a game . Each student will hold a piece of paper with “heavy ” “thin” “tall” “short” on it. The teacher will show some pictures. The students who have the right paper should stand up and speak out the sentence loudly. For example “She is thin ” “He is short ”. Its a game that all the students can join and show themselves .Finally, there is emotional education . Watch a short video of Spud Webb a great NBA player, who is only 169cm. To show an idea that dont judge a person by his appearance.Step 3 presentation about how to talk about peoples hair.To start with, I will show a video about a Princess with long hair. The students will be surprised about her long hair. Then use some pictures to show the differences between hair styles , including short or long and different colors. Practice the sentence and play a small game about hairstylesStep 4 Tasks and gamesFirstly, there will be five gift cases on the screen. Behind each gift box, there will be a task or a game. Including listening test, filling the blanks , choosing the right word and make short sentences. Students who choose the gift cases will have to finish the tasks correctly so that they can get the points. By the way, there is also a big surprise for the students. One of the cases with no tasks but a real gift for the student.Then, there will be a game. The teacher will prepare some paper cuttings of different body parts, ask one student to go to the blackboard and put the hair and the body together, then another student should describe it.Step 5 Summary.At the end of the lesson. The teacher should guide the students to sum up the key words and sentence patterns of the lesson. Step 6 ChantThe class will end up with a chant. Its a good way for students to relax themselves. I am short,I am thin, I have long hair. She is tall, she is fat , her hair is black. You are tall, you are thin, You have blond hair. Tall or short, fat or thin, let us be friends. Thats all for the procedure of this lesson. About the blackboard design, I will divide the black board into two parts, the left part is for important words and sentence patterns, it will be helpful when the students are doing tasks and playing games. The right part is for games and paper- cuttings. Its a way of visual teaching. And now, its the last part of my presentation. let me introduce my way of teaching evaluation. In this lesson, students will be active, because I will divide students into several groups. The students who are active will get 1 point, the stu
