Lesson Plan for lesson 3, Unit 7 What does he look like? J1 B1. Students analysisl The class: a middle-sized class with 54 students, 31 girls & 23 boys. l The attitudes: most students are quiet except for a few top students.l The ability: many students try very hard but cannot speak correctly without the teachers explanations. And some students want to learn more but they lack language support.l The strategies: about one third of students cannot concentrate their mind in class. They seem to be used to mechanical learning.2. Learning objectives:(1) Words and expressions:Review and practice the words and phrases about appearance and what people always wear and use them to describe peoples looks (e.g.,look like, short, straight, long, curly, funny).(2) Sentence structures and the communicative functions:Review and practice the sentence structure “Do you/they have?Does he/she have?” “Yes, I/they do. No, I/they dont. Yes, he/she does. No, he/she doesnt.” “wear(s).” “He /she has.” “He/she doesnt have.” and use them to talk about peoples outlooks.Learn and practice the new sentence structure roughly “I think/dont think.” and use it to talk about someones feelings about something. (3) Language skills and strategies:Practice reading the article about Johnny Dean and fill in the blanks in the chart with the information after reading.Practice describing the two pictures and Johnny Dean appearance in your own words and telling us your feelings about the chage of his appearance with the sentence structure “wear(s).” “He /she has.” “He/she doesnt have.” “I think/dont think.”(4) Attitudes and significance of learning:Through doing reading and describing practice, the students may raise the habit and interest to read and use the language they learn. 3. Teaching procedure:Stage 1 Greeting and checking homeworkStep 1: Greeting Ss, then checking their homework by asking two students to give a conversation about describing one of their teachers without telling their classmates this teachers name.Step 2: The other students guess the teachers name after this two students describe.Step 3: Asking this two students to give them the answer. Step 4: Telling the students what they will do in this class.e.g., “ Today we are going to read an article, do some exercises and then play a game.”Stage 2 Reading (3a)Step 1: The students read the article after the teacher without looking at the two pictures beside the article.Step 2: The students fill in the blanks with the words taken from the article by themselves according to their own understanding.Step 3: The students read the article in chorus again and do preparation for the describing activity.Step 4: Asking the students to close their books, then hanging two big pictures exactly like the ones in the text book, then asking two students to describe the man appearance in each picture to check what the differences are and tell others how they feel about this mans change (by using “I think he is.”) in their own words by using the sentence structure they have learn. Step5: The teacher assesses their performance and presents the answers on the blackboard and Ss check their own answers. Stage 3 Exercise (3b)Step 1: Explaining the exercise to Ss.Step 2: Getting Ss to look at the two pictures of Gloria Green and the teacher reads the uncompleted article for the students.Step 3: Asking the students to compare these two pictures and try to fill in the numbered blanks by themselves.Step 4: The teacher gives the answers and guides them to read the completed article again.Stage 4 Play a Game what does he/she look like?Step 1: Explaining the rules of the game (every group assign one member who will go up to the blackboard and draw a sketch on it according to the teachers description about the picture of an ordinary person he have prepared before class. All the representatives starts drawing at the same time and the other group members can give their own representatives suggestions any time. After all the representatives of each group finish their works, the whole class will vote for the best one which are the most like the original picture. The winner group will get 8 points and a red star for each one in the group.)Step 2: Playing the game.Step 3: Announcing who the final winner is and assessing this game.Stage 4 Summary and HomeworkStep 1: Guiding Ss to summarize all the words and main sentence structures learnt in this whole unit.Step 2: Assigning the homework (write an article not less than 90 words about their family members or friends appearance and wearing after class.) 4.
